What are YOU asking for for Christmas?

H and I really don’t NEED anything—we buy what we like. I am gifting him the Airpod pro 2 earbuds I got from BestBuy because they’re supposed to work as hearing aids. We shall see. If not, I may take them if he doesn’t want them.

Nothing this year. DH & I have not exchanged for ??? Instead we usually try to pick something for the house that we both would enjoy, but would not normally purchase (we’re both too “thrifty” ahem… cheap). Example: larger screen TV But nothing needed or wanted this year, except a replacement car, but that isn’t a want; but unfortunately now a need!

We stopped exchanging gifts long ago, and instead when we see something during the year we get it (for ourselves and thank the other(s) and we do events - theater, concert, museum, escape room, etc.

I would be happy to stop exchanging gifts, but H comes from a family that is ALL about the gifts (I have stories) so he likes to buy “stuff” that can be wrapped and put under the tree.

If you can get your hands on a German copy of The Boxcar Children, I would highly recommend it. It’s at a nice, not-too-hard, reading level, and the story holds up even for adults. Perhaps you also know that romance novels tend to be written at about a 6th grade reading level. I nailed down the preterite and picked up quite a bit of vocabulary from romance novels…

I think a good, relatively inexpensive, gift is anything that would replace the black plastic things that people use in the kitchen. So new spatulas, spoons etc.

As a husband who’s wife employs the same tactic, specificity is important. My wife likes Chance perfume. But there’s three different colors. Moreover, it’s difficult to discern when the bottle is empty…so 33.3% odds.

During Covid, I gave away our three bikes. Son’s schwinn was just taking up room. I barely used my mountain bike and not my racing bike for years. I hope some children enjoyed them.

We shopped together, so bought each other what we liked and fit. He was a Weber grill, so we can split cost of that. Nothing else.

I’ve been the victim of people gifting me what they think I must need or want (roller blades, serger, brand-name purse, etc.). I call it “judgment gifting” and politely ask if the gifter prefers me to exchange, re-gift, donate, or simply keep the item for themselves as I suspect that’s who they really bought it for.

Oh my gosh! My grandma made gowns for us like this waaaaay back. I should find the pattern.

I asked for new white leather “fashion” sneakers, new walking sneakers, and a new knife set (I have a cheap set that drives me nuts), and new attachements for my Kitcheaid mixer as they have gone missing. Told daughter to get me neacklace or earrings as she always picks out nice ones. Teenage sons will get me whatever is leftover at Marshalls on Christmas Eve. I don’t really care what I get but I do like opening presents. I do all the shopping and wrapping so feel like I deserve something on Christmas morning! What I would really like is a trip as we currently have nothing on the books but we are actively trying to save for our 3rd’s college fund.

@MAmom111 , have you seen the “robe” skit by SNL a few years ago? Mom does it all and she gets a robe (Kristen Wiig, if I remember). Probably in the SNL Christmas special that airs tonight. Your description of S shopping last minute and how you do it all for the others reminds me of that skit for some reason. I’m sure you could Google it as well as watch for it on tonight’s special.
Hope Christmas is good for you!

I told the husband today that all I wanted for Christmas was to actually go on the cruise I put a deposit on in November.

He said of course. We were a bit worried about his health but he seems to be doing really well so that worry is gone. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
