It’s a phrase we often use - “I’m behind the times on…_____”.
What are you behind the times on? Try not to turn this into a brag (some people see it as a feather in their cap that they don’t know/do social media for instance).
Could be tech trends, clothing, social media, food trends, news, how to do a certain thing, music, baby equipment, etc.
I’m being the time on movie/movie stars. Ask me about most movies in the last many years and I have no idea. Show me pics of famous actors and I’m clueless.
It might not matter to you or maybe it’s something you’d like to improve.
Well, music and listening to it on my phone. (And I also don’t keep up with good current music). Social media except Facebook. Spotify. I need to at least try the free one.
Hot local restaurants. We rarely go out to eat and when we do it’s to the same three close by restaurants. I swear everyone else I know goes out to eat all the time and are always talking about restaurants I’ve never even heard of. It’s especially bad in a group I’m a volunteer with. I had to tell one of the women once that I already know every time she’s going to ask me “Have you eaten at…” the answer is going to be no!
I don’t have a smartphone. Mostly because of cost but also because my kids have moved away and my husband doesn’t have or want one, so if I got one, there would be nobody to help me if I got stuck while figuring out how to use it. And I have a long history of failing to learn how to use complicated devices. (My most recent failure involved an Instant Pot, which is now collecting dust in the basement.)
I do have an older cell phone that can only call and text. About five years after I got it, I finally figured out how to make it act as an alarm clock, too. I consider this a major victory.
I don’t watch movies and so I am completely blank when people talk about movies and movie stars. At times it is embarrassing, and I am horrible at trivia. But apparently I don’t care enough to change.
Music and movies for sure. Nothing makes me feel older than watching awards shows and not having a clue who the artists are (MTV music awards - I’m specifically talking about you.)
Some tech…I just don’t get the appeal of Alexa. It kind of creeps me out.
Behind the time, and want to stay there, on design trends…I absolutely HATE the resurgence of the “new brass”
I get easily frustrated when I cannot (immediately and intuitively) figure out something on my iPhone, iMac, and don’t even get me started on the $%^& TV or the #$%& sound system in my car.
I’m not THAT old (mid 50s) but today I was that person in the grocery checkout line who couldn’t tell the difference between a nickel and a quarter. When did they change the designs?
Last week, I finally figured out that my Iphone 6S really is malfunctioning, and it’s just not me. I put in a contact, the confirmation page showed up, but then it doesn’t appear in my contacts. This explains why my contacts list is so short. I just thought I forgot to put things in. I’m pretty sure the phone’s been malfunctioning for many months, maybe years. I always assumed it was just that I couldn’t figure out how to use it. Never could get google maps to speak to me. It stopped ringing a few months ago, and no, it’s not on silent or do not disturb. New Iphone XR comes this afternoon.
My middle school son likes to play his switch on the living room TV. For the life of me, if he doesn’t plug the cable box back in, I can’t figure out how to do it. I used to be the person who could program a VCR in no time.
RE: TV shows. There’s very little I watch on TV any more. There’s nothing that appeals to me. I haven’t liked anything really since The West Wing and Law and Order went off the air.
Clothing, music, movies, TV, celebrities, phones/apps, children/babies, vernacular, in-home technology, pretty much everything according to our son. It’s getting harder every day to crawl out from under this comfy rock.
Sigh… Just about everything. Things have changed and moved too quickly for me. I feel very very sorry for the elderly, and it scares me as it looks prophetic to me that I"ll be as confused as many of them are with the new technological advances. Things seem to be accelerating in terms of change and time going by way too fast.
But apparently I don’t care enough to change.
