MiL is planning to be at Wal-Mart tomorrow at 5 am to buy a tv. I plan to be asleep and not buy anything . . .

My daughter and her fiance are planning to be at best buy early to get the big screen TV his Mom is buying them for Christmas (must be nice) - but I saw today you can order the same tv at the same price, with free shipping, online. I’m going to call them later to make sure they know that.

Me, I can’t imaging anything worse than day after thanksgiving sales, unless it is day after Christmas sales. I’m always glad Christmas has arrived so I can stop shopping and worrying about whether I forgot anything. My mom in law insisted on dragging me to day after Christmas sales one year - I was not happy.

Some stores are opening as early as 3:00 a.m. That is just crazy? What could possibly be worth getting up at that hour for? I feel sorry for the people that have to work tomorrow.

Buying nothing and not getting up early to do it. If I make it to the spinning class at 8am that will be a good thing. Heading to work after that.

I will not be shopping. In my mind nothing is worth buying that I would get up so early and venture out into the zoo. Thanksgiving is the holiday to be grateful for family. I don’t mix that with shopping. My youngest would love it if I was the get up and hit the mall type of shopper.

A retailer here. I am very thankful to have a job and I will be at work. This year management decided to be open a few hours on Thanksgiving! Note: the decision makers are not working! I suggest everyone vote with their dollars and only shop regular (and non holiday) hours. The retail world has gone crazy!

Hopefully a new car.

I will be warm in bed. DH will be headed to Staples at 6am to get a few things for the kids. It’s all of a three minute drive. My girlfriends do a traditional Black Friday shopping trip. The coordination with celphones between stores and hour long lines are mind bending. I will meet them for dinner, smile and nod at all their goodies, knowing I have done pretty darn good on the internet in my PJs with no lines!

Ksm agreed, same thing here store is open but owners aren’t working. Lucky for me I am just an occasional part timer who is not working. If I a. Sober enough to drive I will take my coworker a plate of food later.

just flipped through the ads inserts in today’s paper and don’t see any compelling deals. Maybe a few things, but nothing worth being out of the house before 5am. My office is open, but this is the first time in 6 years that I’m taking the day off, so I won’t be in Macy’s Herald Square at 7:30am with my $10 coupon.

I plan to shop online in my pjs. Buying toys/clothing for lil nieces and nephews. The big kids want cash.

I’ve made a vow this season not to shop in any store that is open on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone should be home with their family, we can all survive a day without shopping.

Edited to add: I make an exception for the our grocery store which is open until noon for those oops! I forgot things.

ksm - I just discovered that I’m out of a particular herb. I refuse to go shopping on a holiday because I think everyone deserves a day off just like I do, and the world is not going to explode just because I have to modify one recipe a bit.

lilmom, I’m planning on doing lots of web shopping, too. The UPS delivery people are going to hate my address! Which reminds me - I have to send Santa a new link, because the purse which I asked for went on sale and sold out in a few hours

I let my daughter and her fiance know that the TV they are planning to line up for in the freezing cold is available from Best Buy online for the same price with free shipping. But they want it tomorrow and don’t want to wait. Personally, I would wait a few days rather than stand in line. Guess I’m old. Though, actually, I never did the big sale thing when I was younger either.

My husband vowed the same thing.

DH and I went to Best Buy at 4:30 a.m. five years ago to buy S2 a laptop. It was a mob scene. We got separated in the crowd. I thought someone would surely be crushed when the doors opened and everyone tried to rush in. By the time we got in,we found that there were a very limited number of available "great deal " computers and vouchers had been given out to those first in line (who had camped out over night).
DH said…“never again”…and we never have.

Fortunately, tomorrow is my mom’s 89th birthday, so we’ll be going to see her. I wouldn’t be in the stores anyway…hate the crowds, stores opening at ridiculously early times. There’s nothing I need or want that badly.
Unfortunately, we have to plan our route to mom’s to avoid anywhere near the mall or other stores.

OK, this is the first time time I heard the term “Grey Thursday”. KING5 TV reports that Toys R Us is going to open its local stores at 10 pm tonight

Guess I’m the only one venturing out so far…wasn’t planning on it but DD and neice talked me into it and it usually isn’t too bad in my area (lots of stores, relatively small city). Neice wants a TV at Walmart and DD wants a new GPS and the $3 mini-chopper, mixer, and crock-pot as she’s moving off campus next year. Then off to Olympia or another such place for some new work-out clothes, and finally the girls want the $5 Old Navy bed pants. Not bad…leaving at 4 am, hoping to be back in bed by 9!

The Monday following Thanksgiving is traditionally the internet Black Shopping day. And many e-merchants are offering free shipping on all purchases this year. This was invented for men.
