Yes, my husband NEEDS every new black electronic box that is created.

THis year it’s the Sony HT-CT150 sound bar.
Lowest I’ve found online is $198 on thenerds.com…but I’m not convinced of their return/service. Amazon has it for $248, and no worries about service in my experience. I think I’ll browse online tomorrow but might hold out till Cyber Monday if I don’t find the absolute perfect deal till then.
Best of luck to all the shoppers, bricks and mortar and virtual!!

The store I own and manage did not open yesterday. We will operate normal hours today – and I do not expect a big day. Today is the crazies at the mall.

Tomorrow, Saturday is the first Small Business Saturday (created and sponsored by American Express). Hoping more than a few of our Amex customers will spend their $25 at MY store for their statement credit.

I am heading to the shop in a few minutes to get organized for the season, but I really have the day off. My manager thought she should schedule today like it was the biggest shopping day of the year. But for us, it’s not.

My son just texted from Woodbury Common (big outlet center north of NYC) … huge traffic jams … that he got the thing that he wanted, but it was not worth the hassle! He left at 10 pm last night, and got into the store (about 40 miles away) at 4 am. Leaving now … trophy in hand.

BunsenBurner, like you I refuse to shop on Thanksgiving for anything even food supplies. Unless it’s something that can be purchased at a 7-11 type of store (which is always opened on holidays) I will do without, or try to borrow from neighbors. I couldn’t believe it when the large grocery chains began to stay open on Thanksgiving, even my beloved QFC.

I should note that when I said I made an exception for our local grocery store, I meant the little one in town (we live in town of 600) where the owner lives in the back of the store, and they keep the store open until about 1 on Thanksgiving or until they get their dinner on the table. You run in, pick up the chicken broth, meet their lastest grandkid, grab a cookie and head home to finish dinner.

It is Black Friday. I’m l still in my Pjs, lounging on the sofa after a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, fruit and freshly baked chocolate croissants, flipping through the ads in the paper… It is post 9 am, and I’m in no hurry to get out of the house. There is nothing in those ads that will drag my butt off that sofa!

More information is on the web at small business saturday (dot) com. Also on facebook. The definition of a small business is (IIRC) under $10 million in annual sales or something like that and owner operated.

If you think it’s a small business, it probably is! I don’t think there was a list of stores online … but for the credit on your AMEX card, you need to sign up in advance online, and it was good for the first 100,000 people that signed up. The buzz in the industry is that it was poorly promoted. In fact, as a small business that accepts AMEX, we only got our info and signage (out of the blue) less than 10 days ago.

Many times what you think of as small business is more micro-business. My store is doing very very well, even this year, but we are not approaching ONE million dollars a year, let alone TEN MILLION. My pie in the sky goal is a million dollars a year … and every once in a while I daydream about what I could do to get to the million dollar mark.

Wandered out around 10am today to Sports Authority & Target. Bought a $15 item (MSRP $49) at Sports Authority & got $10 gift card good from 11/29-12/24 with no minimum purchase! Target didn’t have the item I wanted, but bought 5 pairs of $5 kids pajamas, 4 sets of $2 hat/gloves and two $3.99 games that I will donate to school district’s holiday drive.

I registered last week for the AmEx event & plan to spend my $25 in our town bookstore. I hope they can recommend a book for my mom, as she & I have very different reading tastes. I bought her “The Little Pink House” last year, which was about the landmark eminent domain case in New London CT. My dad was from there & we knew several of the people in the book, including my dad’s best friend from high school. I read it before I wrapped it and loved it - I don’t think she even finished it!

Nothing. I hate shopping in general and shopping in crowds even more. And toblin, cyber Monday and free shipping were not invented only for men.

Actually, I do very little Christmas shopping at all. We don’t buy for extended family, my H and I get what we want for ourselves, and the kids have a few large things they want that we shop with them for (no returns of unwanted gifts that way).

There were no lines at either store! I told my husband I was not going to stand in a ridiculous long line and I have no plans to go near the mall today.

Brought D2 back to school today and she asked me to pick up some yarn for her at JoAnn Fabrics. There isn’t one near me but there was one on the way when I was driving home so I became an accidental Black Friday shopper.

Got the yarn, plus they had all scissors and accessories 1/2 off so I replaced my lovely Gingher scissors ( D2 had helped herself to my original pair). It turned out not to be too bad, but I would have rather been napping!
