What are you buying on Black Friday (and what time are you getting up to do it)?

I was able to sign up this morning- thanks for sharing!

My daughter’s fiancee lined up over night and got his big screen tv and blu ray player. It was freezing last night and my daughter brought him some warmer clothes at 2 in the morning then went wallyworld to buy some $5 blu ray discs and came out to a car that would not go into gear despite her attempts and some other people that tried. So she walked home - 2-3 miles - alone at 3 in the morning. When I heard about it (well after the event) I asked why she didn’t call a cab, to which she replied that she thought of that half way home, by which time a police car was regularly circling by her every couple of minutes checking on her (“I think he was worried about me”). She got home - went back in her car to pick up fiance and TV, they went to walmart where his car went into gear with no problem. sigh.

I’m going to try and register my amex card, not sure if out local small book store takes amex though. Is this good for any small business?

Any small business that takes AMEX is what I gather. I did not have to register my business, but I did sign up for my free Facebook ads promoting Small Biz Saturday!

Not a parent here, but my mom is quite the bargain shopper and she sent my sister and I on an adventure. He’s a synopsis of my night:

9:30 PM - Begin walking to Toys R Us.
9:45 - Arrive at Toys R Us and get in line. At this point, the line was wrapped all of the way around the store and into the parking lot some ways down the plaza.
10:45 - It begins to rain. We are still in line.
11:30 - Finally inside Toys R Us.
12:00 AM - Get in line for the cash register.
1:00 - Finally check out with our items.
1:30 - Arrive back home with our items. We walked in the rain.
2:30 - Arrive at Wal-Mart. My sister and I both get in line for different door busters (a PS3 bundle for $300 and a $98 19" LCD TV). The Wal-Mart is not one that is typically open overnight and is recently constructed, so actually it is a pretty relaxed atmosphere. I bond with the two women before and behind me in line and chat with the Wal-Mart employees.
5:00 sharp - I get my door buster and find my sister.
6:15 - We finish our shopping and check out.
6:25 - We get back to my house.
7:00 - We arrive at the mall via cab.
9:45 - We finish shopping at the mall.

Highlights that made it worth it:
-A men’s Covington zip wool jacket, originally $120, for $60.
-A women’s St. John’s Bay cashmere blend peacoat, originally $200, for $50. (This one’s mine. )
-A girl’s winter jacket for $13, originally $60.
-Men’s Arizona jeans, originally $40, for $18.

You just can’t beat those deals. I would never have gotten a coat that nice otherwise.

Swimcatsmom: I think I know why the car wouldn’t go into gear: steering wheel was locked. I bet the BF knows about pulling the steering wheel a little bit before trying, and doesn’t even think about it.

^^^hyperJulie, do you think this is mostly the remnants of a very strong genetic tendency for hunting and gathering?

Rather than hibernating, which is the strength of so many of us.

I didn’t go out early. Waited until 11am when I figured the crazies were done. Got two electric razors $75 off each. One men’s leather coat $600 for $120. One sofa and chair already discounted and was 50% off discount. No lines at stores I was in.

I didn 't go out early either - went to mall at 11:30. Bon Ton was having an awesome early bird sale until 1:00…until they made the announcement that they would be extending the sale until 2:00 to get everyone through the check out lines…I think it’s because of all the cha-chinging going on. Bought 5 pc place settings of Fiesta for $19.99, and they had an awesome sale on Keurig coffeemakers and accessories. Broke down and bought the milk frother for $50 (reg $99) and the K-cups were $6/box.

well I was going not to buy anything today but I went to fred meyer after dropping off D and bought wrapping paper, cd cases, um pens, polished rocks cause my aloe vera plant is tippy, a couple pots, a couple climbing philodendrons , that is pretty much it.
Then H & I went and walked around our neighborhood & bought a box of sierra club xmas cards & some take out puerto rican food for D. ( H & I had turkey sandwiches)
I may hit up a xmas fair tomorrow.

Well, I failed on Black Friday but succeeded I think on Cyber Monday.

Found that darned Sony sound bar thingy that DH NEEDS for Christmas online for $222 (including NJ tax-darn it and free shipping) or $26 less than I was about to pay on Amazon. Not sure if that $26 compensates for the hours I’ve been wading through deals online though :)

By the way, thanks cnp for the heads up about the american express small business credit thing. I registered my card friday and went to a small local book store saturday. Spent $30 and see I already have the $25 credited by amex to my account. Good deal for the store and for me.

SwimCatsMom … I am glad to hear that the promotion worked! On Saturday, we only had 4 AMEX users, and only one had her card registered. She spent $30 and was thrilled.

For all you AMEX card holders, we hear that the promotion has been extended I think through December 24 – so go register your card and go shop small!

That is good news. I bought at local candy store, but owner said she had not registered her store. Same thing at next small store. Don’t the stores have to register?

I was under the impression that the cardholder had to register the card, but the store did not have to register. Having said that, I’m not sure how Amex would determine if the store was eligible if they don’t register in some way - unless maybe when they sign on to accept amex that info is there.

The whole thing did not seem well publicized. I was not aware of it till cnp posted about it but was able to register my amex card with no problem friday. Though actually I did scroll back through my emails and see that I had received something about it from Amex - I get so many “offer” emails from them that I tend to just not read them. Nearly missed out this time.

3Katz,

Thanks so much for the Amazon Black Friday Kindle tip. Opened the Kindle on Christmas and found it was the free 3G, etc version. I had no idea it was that top end model when I purchased it.

Thanks again for the tip!

I did get $25 back from local candy store. Thanks to great CC community.

Never could get on Amazon that day.

O2B@C,
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you were successful in getting one!
