What are you doing on July 4?

^^^^Hate to hear about some of the uncommon oppressive heat. Even in Texas, 110 is perceived as pure hell.

I agree about fireworks over the lake. It’s so pretty and so much fun after a day of boating.

And my favorite meal is a good pot luck!

Go to the carnival, have hot dogs at lunch and pass a copy of the Declaration around the table, arguing about who gets stuck reading the middle part ; flip a coin and then we all read part of it until we’re done. Take the history quiz printed yearly in our local paper. Wander up the hill to our friends’ house, who has been hosting a picnic for firework-viewing for years. Answer prying questions about S2’s progress, or lack thereof. Vet various significant others. Eat cheesecake made to look like a flag. Wander back down the hill to home. Set off little fireworks in our driveway with our neighbors. Sit around the fire circle. Discuss light pollution. Fall asleep in hammock.

And thinking of people like spudcommando, serving our country around the globe.

Wow – I love all these stories – lakes, BBQs, parades, fireworks.

I was hoping to leave work early today, but now I’m stuck here waiting for an absent-minded attorney to bring me the docs he should have brought me earlier. If he doesn’t show up til late, I’ll probably end up making s’mores in the conference room…

^^^^^Aw, I’m sorry. :frowning: Your comment about the s’mores made me laugh, though-good for you for keeping your sense of humor.

I actually got off work on time today. My holiday weekend begins!

Happy 4th to all CCers! And happy bitrthday to one CCer and to our great country. :)
