What are you doing on July 4?

I looked at the schedule for July 5 at the colonoscopy center where I work and noted that there were quite a few cases scheduled. Apparently, these folks decided to take advantage of their day off to care of business and spend the day doing a bowel prep.

I commend them for being proactive about their health; however, I can sure think of more enjoyable things to do for the holiday! We are heading to the lake for a 5 day holiday with friends: lots of barbecue, boating, staying up late, and a big fireworks show on Saturday night.

What are you doing?

Just realized I posted this on the Parents Forum. :o

Could the mods move it to the Cafe?

Probably sitting in my AC in front of my computer–expected temps with heat index on the 4th are in the 110 range…yuck.

Taking the kids and their friends out on the river for tubing and watching fireworks.

taking D to the airport for her journey overseas - maybe hang out after with the other mom whose D is going with mine.

Enjoying another day of the relentless Afghan sun counting the days till I redeploy stateside. Temperature today on my electronic thermometer was 118. Ah I do so love this country, I can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Not going to the fireworks.

I’m in Maryland, in an area where huge numbers of people lost their power during a storm last Friday. Our community has cancelled its fireworks so that city employees won’t have to be pulled away from power restoration efforts.

Going to two parties - both a ways from us, but luckily not too far from each other. We may or may not go to fireworks out there. I love fireworks, but I like the company too. The second party includes lots of games (everything from the newest board game, to charades to ping pong and pool (both kinds actually)).

After completing my day i have to attend my friend b-day party. For the same i have prepared my gift and dress so that i will reach on time and enjoy a lot.

Daughter and I are running the local 5K in the morning. It goes right by my office, so I won’t really feel like a “day off”! No other plans- just enjoying the “half-time” this week.

Hopefully running 10 miles and then watching fireworks on the Esplanade.

^^^ Wow!!!

Sleeping, followed by a 13 hour shift!

Lake minnetonka!!!

My day will start with sleeping late followed by breakfast/brunch, then watching the neighborhood parade from the comfort of home, retreating to the recliner for a cat nap and then heading to an afternoon movie. Notice how everything revolves around indoor activities? Tomorrow night, we’ll be able to see city fireworks from home so we’ll just set up chairs on the driveway to watch. How I love a lazy day!

Tonight: Walk downhill to the park. Drink beer in the beer garden. Listen to local Elvis impersonator. Donate $10 to volunteer firefighters. Attempt to dunk local cops into dunk tank. Stumble uphill.
Tomorrow: Score sweet spot for our main street parade. Join neighbors in the park. No fireworks allowed so: watch kids jump up and down on bubblewrap while the band plays “The Stars and Stripes Forever”. Then go to the Rose Bowl for real fireworks.

I’ve been doing this for 22 years and loving it.

Doing a bunch of cooking, for my family and myself, then going to a potluck at my best friend from high school’s house. Should be about 6 of us there. No fireworks allowed in Long Beach so we’ll probably just hang out, watch movies or play Wii, or just chatter and catch up. It’s going to be a potluck, so great food for everyone. Should be a great time.

Going to the local parade which ends at the park down the street from our house. Wondering if our former congressional rep will still march since she has been redistricted out of most of the town and is now in her first serious election battle (being watched nationally even though she is pretty low key). Too hot to go to the local crafts fair. Weather permitting, heading to a nearby town to watch fireworks on a hillside above a pond surrounded by office buildings that reflect the lights and sounds.

Eagle, I will see you there! It is our annual tradition - boating and jetsking during the day, followed by bar-b-q and then watching fireworks on the lake!

^Last summer my aunt and uncle were gracious enough to take me out to a reservoir near their house in Modesto. We did exactly that and it was one of the best Independence Days I’ve ever spent! Nothing like fireworks over a lake. The reflection and the sound was incredible.
