Mammogram.
After 9 days of entertaining various family members, this is the first morning I woke up and didn’t need to (after exercise) immediately make a big breakfast! I love doing that but after 9 days, appreciate the calm/break.
After putting our upstairs where 2 of my kids and their SO’s stay back together yesterday, I started what I hope to be a week of “resetting”. Tackling drawers, closets, refrigerator etc - all those spots that get jumbled over the last few months of being ignored.
So far today:
- Exercised
- Cleaned out one large china type cabinet and drawers.
- Started gathering some of the Christmas stuff that was in the kids bedrooms and in a pile from gift opening - boxes, wrapping, gift bags, bows, etc. The tree did not go up till first week of December - we will take down Friday or Saturday.
- Short pup walk - it’s awful outside!
- Leftovers for breakfast and sue me, but my kids said I should TRY watching a cheesy reality show so I’m going to use this week to give it a whirl - so watched a little of that.
- Need to sort through the Christmas cookies and put anything left I want to keep in the freezer so I can grab “just one” in the post-holiday season!
Tomorrow H and I may do a quick trip to
- just Windsor - for some banking stuff and I learned there is a Roots outlet there so I want to stop. I’ll work a few hours on Friday but otherwise, puttering around in a productive way is my plan! And daily exercise indoors or out as weather allows.
Because I think this is absolutely relatable today, I’m going to slow cook some short ribs with lots of roasted vegetables and a big green salad!
Sitting on my hands looking at the Christmas crap and fantasizing about putting it all away. DH insists on waiting until 1/1.
Must.not.touch…
Before I left my house this morning, I put away all the Christmas stuff…except snowmen. I figure I’ll enjoy those all winter.
We really didn’t decorate too much this year because we just aren’t there now.
New Years has been celebrated with the same folks for over 33 years. We missed a couple of other times…and won’t be there this year. Hoping to send NYE fireworks pics from where we will be!
I played 2 hours of pickleball this morning, then went to Costco, then went to another grocery store to get various things for an overnight NYE party we are attending. (@conmama - told my husband it’s costing a lot to GO TO this party. I think we’ve spent close to $100 on things we’re bringing, plus we got a $150 restaurant GC for a “housewarming” present. We wouldn’t have gotten anything if we didn’t attend the party).
All of you putting away the Christmas decorations are inspiring me… I think I can put away the mantle things without too much complaining from the husband, but the tree will stay up until at least Jan 1.
We wait until the Epiphany to take down the decor. My husband pouts every year and tries to get me to keep them up even longer. There would be a revolt if I tried to take them down now.
Went to the grocery store to stock up on collards and black-eyed peas for New Years. I don’t think my husband cares one way or the other about Christmas decor. It sometimes bugs me and makes me sad that I am the only one who deals with it, but I am just paring down to what I want to do (and undo).
Good for you! You have more energy than I it seems!
Good for you! We wait until Epiphany, as well! Christmas is not over until January 6!
Not a d… thing!
This just in … looking for someone who can fix my lost crown. ![]()
We had an unexpected activity today - removing a bat from the house and doing a thorough disinfecting/cleaning.
I was reviewing an essay and caught a black smudge out of the corner of my eye and nearly had a heart attack! It was hanging from the top of our exposed chimney on our third floor. Thank god H was home and managed to knock it down into an empty waste paper basket and got it outside unharmed.
We did a thorough sweep of the house and one of the windows on our second floor was partially open. I’m going to hope it came in from there and we don’t have another point of entry we don’t see.
This is the second bat we’ve gotten in the house in 8 years. The last time was several years ago when my daughter’s window was left open but it flew back out the way it came in.
Ugh! I thought bats were hibernating this time of the year?
We’ve had bats before also. Not fun
I hope they aren’t hibernating somewhere in our walls!!! That said, we haven’t heard any activity, seen any droppings, or anything like that so I’m praying this was a one off.
I know they are great for mosquito control and such but I don’t want them inside the house!
they are a rabies vector species in our area. You might want to check that out in your area. The rabies shots will prevent it, but once rabies develops it’s always fatal. In our area if you find a bat or handle a bat they advise getting the shots. We did have one in our house once and felt like there was no way that it got close to anyone. We had Critter Control come out and get it out and put excluders on our eaves. Had a friend who was working outside and came into contact with one and he did the shots. Our dog caught one once too, and he had to get a booster shot.
Still in my pj’s!
LOL, I guess you mean a literal dental crown. I was worried about some kind of parent royalty demotion.
I found a deceased bat behind the dryer which is in an alcove outside my bedroom. Really freaked out. Our county has a lab you can drop varmints off to and so I did that and was relieved when it tested negative for rabies.
I called animal control in our county and they told me we didn’t need to do anything. No one touched it. H was wearing gloves and knocked it into the bucket with a broom and covered it with a towel. The towel is getting thrown out.
