Husband is working today. I had two of my grandkids for the morning. Their preschool is closed for holiday break and my daughter had things to get done. My goal was to get them to play inside and not get muddy. I lost that battle. They went home with muddy shoes, sidewalk chalk on their socks and pants. My husband is going to find piles of gravel on various parts of the driveway. The kids had a blast putting the gravel in their dump trucks and moving them. I had been in a cleaning mood yesterday and found a tin filled with rubber stamps and old pads. Crazy that the ink was still good. They enjoyed playing with them. The two year old didn’t get at first not to touch the pad with his fingers.
Next up was working on some estate planning.
I’m in the mood to clean closets so that will hopefully happen over the next few weeks. My husband usually goes skiing with a friend in January and I find that’s a great time to purge the closets.
We had plans to go away for a few days starting tomorrow but we are cancelling. Happy to be home and more rain is expected.
I’m in SoCal with S, staying in a hotel a short walk from my sisters house. S and I walked 8 miles today mostly along the strand by the water. It never gets old.
We’ll be heading to my sisters for an early dinner, then going to a garden (?) to see some lights.
Also, trying not to think about all of the snow at my house in the Midwest.
Took son to airport this morning after his long visit and got most of the guest room back in order. Husband did towels and I will do rest of laundry tomorrow. Our Chanukah stuff was put away a week ago.
I went for a podiatrist screening in the afternoon and learned that considering my extensive deformities and arthritis, I’m not doing too bad. She recommended an otc orthotic and is going to see if Medicare will cover custom orthotics. (Apparently my diabetes will increase that likelihood- yay?).
Today was LOTS of different errands, a nice lunch with D, and D buying herself a new Garmin watch for a late holiday gift from us (happily the AmEx & Dell paid a good chunk of the cost). Also paid a bunch of bills we want to be able to deduct for 2025–we have major surgical expenses we can itemize which is over 7.5% of our income.
Feeling sad that my daughter just left to drive back to Philadelphia.
I’ve already had a Zoom Finance Committee meeting - thank goodness we finally have a Treasurer who will take over next month and I don’t have to serve in that capacity any longer. My term as President starts in January. Nobody has stepped up to be VP yet, which is a problem since we need someone to take over for me in two years and there’s a lot to learn to do the job well.
Now I need to get a LOT of work done. I have to get my mojo back. I have a challenging project that I really don’t want to tackle, ugh.
As for my day. Spending the morning getting my house back in order and running some errands. In the afternoon, picking up my non-driving father and dropping him at the hospital to visit mom, running a few errands for him, and taking D24 shopping for some interview outfits, then heading back to the hospital so D24 can have a little visit, picking up dad and bringing him home. Will actually be the least hectic day I’ve had in nearly a week.
We’re at our beach house, where we’ve been hunkered down sick for 2 weeks…finally on the mend, though. Spending the morning getting ready for D, SIL, and the 3 grandkids’ arrival around 3pm. They’ll stay until Friday. Hoping we can keep up the (post-cold) energy to be “super-hosts”, even if it’s just for a few days. Looking forward to some chaos!
Today is my usual day off, and with the next rain storm coming in (So Cal) I’ll be taking my long 30 mile bike ride along the beach. It’s a meditation for me. Then I have a few errands. Once the rain hits I’ll be a happy camper pulling out my watercolors and doing some painting (also a meditation for me).
Went to the eye doctor. I keep trying contacts so I don’t always need glasses. However, I think he keeps giving me too strong contacts. I got incredibly nauseated driving to my work office and had to pull them out for my glasses. Still feeling it a bit. They worked well, could even read my computer monitor without reading glasses, but not worth the nausea.
I’m working, but from home because the cough that I can’t seem to beat would freak out my coworkers. Luckily I start my day early (6:30) so with the whole no commuting thing, I can be done pretty early. I’ve got a few more days with my boys home and want to spend some time with them if I can.
Lots of appointments—two medical appts for H, 2 for me, and one for D. Fortunately, they are spaced far apart enough that we shouldn’t have much trouble getting to all of them.
Early 25th (how?!) birthday dinner for my twins before one leaves later tonight after 7 days and the other tomorrow morning after 10 days. Mixed feelings about the house being “empty” (there‘s still the crazy dog) again but so thankful they could spend that long with us. Helps that they’re both grad students and that we still live in the town where they grew up so they also can spend time with childhood friends visiting their parents. Tomorrow I begin clean up and making lists of all those things I put off until “after the holidays.” And get back to exercising and consuming healthier and smaller quantities of food.
I’ve been putting the xmas stuff away all day. I’m over it! The tree is the last thing to come down. I’ll enjoy it for one more night and will be happy to vacuum up all the needles. I’ve also been finishing off the last of the Christmas desserts.
