What are you doing today?

This morning after exercise and pup walk I mixed up a new 1/2 wheat sourdough bread batch - and mixed up some dough for homemade pizza either tonight or tomorrow.

I needed a few groceries but before that stopped at a local “higher end” furniture and home good resale store - it’s huge. A few things that caught my eye:

This groovy velvet monstrosity of a bed:

This European brand cat jacket - a fun item for someone who likes cats - which is not me!

And I was eyeing up this sofa…it’s actually a similar shape and near color to one I’ve been looking at purchasing. The store clerk - who I trust - said it came from a very, very high end home in the area and person who bought it from that home (not trying to sell it at this store) paid$10K for it!!! :open_mouth:

I mean, I could tell it was a quality couch but :scream:. They wanted $1850 for it and I think they would budge. If the back yellow cushions were a different pattern I might consider it (for a deal) but these cushions make it look too formal.

Editing to say, the bed is NOT my taste! LOL. I just thought it was unique. Had to send it to my kids and pretend I liked it. It was HUGE.

Cleaned out the fridge!! It was horrendous. We have a housesitter staying here while we’re on vacation so I had to make room for him. One of my least favorite jobs but it’s nice when it’s done. The refrigerator is original to the house - 30 years old.

Now I’m off to Freeport to look for my bridesmaid dress. The other attendant already got hers it’s a color between navy blue and royal blue. I don’t see how I will find the exact color, which is what the bride wants. I may have to get the exact same dress, which annoys me because it’s sleeveless and the one thing I said was I wanted sleeves. Oh, well.

I ran errands to avoid dh, who is working on a cold. For the first time, because there was no line, I did the drive-thru pharmacy. Easy-peasy, although the pneumatic tube was tricky.

Then I went to the credit union to get some cash and reorder a book of checks. As I was there, I was thinking how I would miss this little credit union if we relocate. It’s been my only banking institution since I moved here in 1986 and it had a baby branch in the first floor of my employer. Geez, even checks make me sentimental.

Then I took myself to lunch and continued a book I’ve been slowly making my way through. Ds2 gave it to me for Christmas, and I’m really liking it.

Then came home to watch UT mens bball. Close game against rival OU in Norman. Eventually, I’ll get my workout in, Then dh and I will do our monthly financial reconciliation and maybe our taxes!

I hit up some resale shops today, but unlike @abasket , I didn’t see anything remotely interesting. My recent trips through my usual haunts have been pretty disappointing … there seems to be a lack of donations/consignments lately. OTOH, someone got a really good deal today when they picked up our trundle bed & mattresses - no charge. I bought them gently used 25-30 years ago for our guest room. The kids had sleepovers in the beds & my in laws slept in them back in the day. GD & I used them for sleepovers recently. We decided that the trundle beds have served their purpose, so we put them on the local “free” group on Facebook. It feels good to have purged one more thing we don’t really need.

I wouldn’t let cushions deter me from a couch purchase – they are the easiest things to recover or, given the “steal” on the couch, have someone do for you.

Those don’t look original to the couch. If they are, I think they’re an odd design choice. I’d swap them out for something entirely different, but I wouldn’t let cushions stand in the way of a solid piece of furniture. Over the years, I’ve swapped out and recovered the 13 back pillows on our sectional multiple times. I posted upthread that I bought three cowhide pillowcases in Tucson yesterday to re-cover the middle and end pillows of the sectional to add a hint of southwest to the room.

(None of the pillows are original to the sectional purchased 23 years ago.)

Buy the sofa if you love it!

Though I cringe to post this, my parents had this bed in our house in the 70s – with the requisite satin sheets and pillows:

I’m not kidding. Is it any wonder better decor is so important to me?

(They later divorced. Coincidence?)

ETA: After the divorce, my dad took the bed and furnished the living room of his apartment with a powder blue crushed velvet couch with thick chrome armrests and a large chrome-and-glass coffee table with a white shag rug underneath. I inherited the god-awful sofa for my first apartment but replaced it the minute I could scrape together enough funds.

I love that sofa. I have one that is similar in design. It was expensive but I love it!
Today has involved walking the dogs numerous times, a facetime with D and a Zoom related to a potential Paris trip. Not too exciting.

That bed…well..BOTH beds…are interesting. When I was a kid I loved looking at the Sears catalogue and there was no doubt in my mind I was going to have satin sheets when I was old enough. I am still not old enough.

There are a few other “imperfections” that I noted - and no telling if the back had any issues since I could not see it. Of course I’d have them pull it out if I was truly interested.

I don’t sew - and for me,more decisions about what to cover it with, finding someone locally to trust make them, having to transport the couch on our own - all these steps - for now - make me say no because it’s too many steps to get how I’d like it. I won’t be sad if I miss out on it, but also I think they are going to have it for awhile.

The cushions did seem very substantial and well made - just not my vibe.

Come on, admit it - this is you and Hubby’s current LOVE NEST.

@abasket a good friend’s family had this in their house in the 60’s. The mother was always sitting on that couch knitting something. I’m not kidding…well…when I was there anyway. Parents divorced and the mom must have taken this. O knew the dad better, and it most definitely was not in his place!

I went to NRack to return a skirt D didn’t want and walked next door to TJMaxx. To my surprise, found 5 cute tops & a nice golf towel, all for about the price of the one returned skirt, $66+. My wardrobe is now refreshed. Haha!

Had a nice walk down to the beach this afternoon. I love that this couple planned an outdoor wedding by the beach for January 31st and got beautiful 75 degree weather.

Had a nice day. Did a few random things this morning, then D and I went across town to a boutique we like. The store is collecting food for people in need ( our cities are in a “situation “). The boutique is a small woman owned business and I was able to introduce myself to the owner. We each ended up buying a few things.

We then went back to her house. SIL is on a business trip, and D goes on one next week so her in-laws are here helping with the kids. They are really nice people as well as genuinely helpful. I hung out there and had dinner.

That bed is not compatible with cats. It will be shredded in no time by most felines!

We went up to see my in-laws. We brought lunch and had a lovely afternoon sitting outside and enjoying the 77 degree weather. All the hills are green and the plants think spring has arrived.

Well, we are going to visit niece & new baby. We offered to bring lunch or dinner. They requested lunch and Thai. Just ordered and website wanted to charge me a 10% convenience fee plus tip so I called restaurant and ordered from worker and was able to avoid convenience fee and said I’d bring cash instead at pick up. Sheesh—it’s just too much grabbing for cash!

Went to church, finally got DH’s cell phone activated with Spectrum, and finished up tax prep for business and personal returns. Yay!

Completely reorganized my kitchen! Cupboards cleaned, everything accessible. Felt very productive. Several walks with the pups, FaceTime with D to show off the kitchen. Doesn’t take much to put me in a good mood!
