What are you doing today?

@abasket, I thought of you and your thrifting today when I saw on GMA that Lara Spencer is hosting a new thrifting design competition. It is going to be on Hulu and some other network I am not familiar with. You would be perfect for the show!

Back to the dentist for cleaning and final crown

Oooh I’ll have to look for it! I don’t need the fame ( ) but I would enjoy watching.

She must a thrifter/second hand person too because she had a previous fun show Flea Market Flip.

Didn’t get around to posting yesterday- it was our trip to Milford Sound. Four hours on the bus each way - over half the scenery same as we’ve been seeing. Then some lovely photo op stops. Then a spectacular Milford Sound cruise- it was a picture perfect day.

A different work day for me. Started off the usual workout. Then, I had jury duty orientation. We serve for 2 months. They had 27 cases, but thus far it’s been settled down to 17 and likely will settle to just a few. But, this stretch has the case that was in the national media for awhile. It is possible I will be exempt if it falls the week of S’ wedding - I’ve already gotten excused for those dates. But part of me wouldn’t mind serving, as I find it interesting.

Then I had a meet and greet with a new state official person. He got to listen to us vent. He seems nice. Now, I’m listening to a 2 hour training for a grant application process. zzzzzz

Took a nice walk while the sun was out to start the day. Then had the plumber back for the sewer lining for hopefully the last time, and then met the roofer as we have a leak (thankfully it’s the flashing around the chimney and not the roof needing to be replaced). Also did more housework, prepped short ribs to be slow cooked, and now kicking back for some down time.

We got plowed last night, so today has been a “normal” day.

Surfed the interwebs for a couple of hours. Cleaned up the kitchen and ran the dishwasher. Took a ton of laundry upstairs to be folded. Went to the gym, which was packed – no school here today, since a lot of people haven’t dug out yet. Shortly I will take the dog to the woods and we’ll see if it’s walkable – I suspect not.

Hamburgers and tater tots for dinner. And maybe carrots too. Then more bingeing of Call the Midwife.

What?! A two month jury duty? How can people do that?

It’s not near that bad. As I said, they have 17 cases. They span 11 dates. There are 8 groups of jurors. Before each scheduled date, you call in to see if the case has been settled. If yes, nobody reports. If no, they tell you which panels (usually 2) must report. From there, they will select 24 people out of roughly 50-100? and whittle it down to the required number. Most cases will last just 1 day. The high profile case is scheduled for 5 days.

H had to serve the previous 2 months. He only had to show up twice. He made it to the round of 24, but told them he couldn’t be impartial since he had taught kids for 32 years and it was a pedophile case. (He did NOT want to serve.) He was immediately selected to be booted by the lawyers.

The hardest part is that NO electronics or food are allowed, even if you’re there all day. You can bring something if you’re diabetic, but that’s it. They will feed you lunch, but I’m used to eating more than that! It’s also weird leaving a cell phone behind. They aren’t allowed in the building at all.

I got up early to work out, because I had an early dental appt to get my new crown and a cleaning. I hate the dentist so this round is my first time going since before Covid. I actually like these people! No one hurt me and the dental hygienist couldn’t believe how great my gums looked for not having a cleaning in six or seven years. Yeah, I take really good care of my teeth because I don’t want to see you!

Then I met dh for lunch, where we talked about how we are going to have a relationship with our grandchildren 1,000 miles away. Mind you, we don’t have any. But we don’t want to wait until the last minute! lol

Then I early voted while he went to work. And when I got home ds2 called, and we talked for more than an hour. And then my bff called, and we talked for an hour. But she is awaiting some potentially concerning health news so fingers crossed. We might be going to Atlanta together in April, depending on what happens, so that will be fun.

Now I’m working on a puzzle while half listening to The Bulwark’s SOTU watch-along.

Oh, ds2 just sent me a pic of a berry cobbler he made. Now I want cobbler!

Sent off our acceptance of a local govt grant for security at the synagogue. First time I submitted a grant and we got all we requested!

Took the dog to the vet for chemo #2. Vet is really happy that she is already responding to the meds and that pupper is very perky and eating well. All my blood cancer experience is coming in handy.

Wrote emails to our RE broker and attorney to start drafting a sales agreement for the synagogue. This is buyer #4. The other three fell through due to their issues, not us. Reminded myself (again) that I will not be doing a fourth year as president.

Watered plants. Hang in babies – it’s almost spring!

Fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is the day my now-DIL hitchhiked her way out of Kyiv and wound up in the Carpathians after a 26 hour bus ride. It’s also the day S2 realized he loved her and would not leave.

Joined the weekly gang at a local interstate overpass and waved at passing cars while holding my “Honk for Democracy” sign.

Today, I had a zoom meeting on how to present to the National Heart Lung Blood Institute. While on the call, I made a spreadsheet of some of the data that H has been compiling about his waking and blood pressure and Rx changes. I also created a brief summary of all the specialists H is seeing and the Rx they’ve prescribed an and his current symptoms.

I drove 45 minutes to take my friend out to lunch. She’s a lovely person and close friend of the family and had a brilliant mind—sadly she has dementia at this time and it’s significantly worse than last time I saw her. She asked me repeatedly questions about her late husband and child.

I then met H at his APRN for a review of his Rx and suggestions on how to have fewer side effects and more effective treatment. We kept the APRN past the time we were supposed to have—ended up spending about an hour. We got a new inhaler that seems to have reduced his breathlessness (yay) and suggestions about his other Rx.

We started our day with a Half Day Tour of Middle Earth. The tour took us to multiple locations in the greater Queenstown area where LOTR filmed. The guide described in detail how the scenes were set up and filmed, and tons of anecdotes about the cast and crew. He would hold up a photo from the movies in front of the actual location to help us connect. At one stop, he unloaded a bunch of authentic swords, capes, and other props for photo ops. Some of the locations had excellent sweeping views, so it was part scenic tour.

Lunch at the harborfront, and dinner at Bob’s Peak up the gondola.

Tomorrow we fly to Sydney, where unfortunately it looks rainy for much of our four days there.

Shoveling snow….again. Ugh.

More snow to clear, but not too bad. And now at the office. Hoping to get to the gym for a class after work. Looking forward to some above freezing weather this week!

Got a 93 sleep score but was rudely awakened by dh informing me that I had left a package of frozen chicken on the counter overnight. UGH. I opened it, and it was still cool so I cooked it off just now. Will determine later whether to actually eat it.

I’m gonna work out and do whatever. When dh gets home from work we’ll watch Shrinking and start Lonesome Dove. We’ve never seen it. Ds2 just watched it because of Duvall’s death and said we have to watch it. It’s free on Prime, and at only four episodes it’ll be an easy watch.

I got my 10-tooth bridge permanently glued in today. The dentist said to give it a few days and he’ll make any adjustments necessary. It’s been a six-month process, from start to finish.

Next, off the the grocery store, then Zoom tonight for one of my bookclubs. We read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, which I loved.

Walking up to the club for my weekly fancy-cappucino-and-crochet conclave with my gal group. Maybe out to lunch later after. Otherwise, just the weekly Wednesday laundry/cleaning in the afternoon and something grilled for dinner.

My absolute favorite book! I have read it several times. This was a first book for the author, and has not come out with a new book yet.

We thought Milford Sound and the whole Fiordland experience to be well worth it. Such beautiful scenery!
