What are you doing today?

My mom had Xfinity/Comcast and never was there a pleasant customer service exchange it seemed! I dreaded having to reach out to them.

We’ve had decent luck in person at our local xfinity store. Much much better than over the phone!

Dh and I agreed to watch the season finale of Shrinking at 9 a.m. so that was the first order of business once the FA didn’t call. There was some confusion about whether we had a mtg with him today. Got my answer when he didn’t call at 9.

About to hop on treadmill and do some weights and core before lunch with the group that’s a little awkward for me. I like them enough to keep going, but it’s not like yesterday’s lunch group, who I’ve known forever. The person I like most won’t be there today, and the person I like second-most is moving back to California soon. A third woman I’ve known the longest and her bff in the neighborhood unexpectedly died recently so I think she’s trying to make this group happen and I want to support her. The fourth woman is a trip and most unlike me. I’ll leave it at that.

It doesn’t sound like this group will last.

Well, we went out to cute little cafe for breakfast. D is sleeping in. There were many songbirds singing away in huge cage. It was a very nice metro center. Came home to wrap grand niece’s lego gift in Sunday funnies paper. Put it outside the room D is sleeping in. BIL will pick up grand niece after school & bring her to his house at 2, so she and D can play until we have to leave to take D to her Stanford appt around 2:45. Niece will pick up grand niece after niece is done with work

BIL will meet us at Stanford mall for dinner somewhere there—maybe the Mediterranean place. D wants to enjoy the flowers at the mall. Then we will come home & pack to fly back to our respective places tomorrow.

Got my second shingles shot today. Waited until after Easter, in case of adverse side effects.

Completed all the income taxes last night so needed to review and submit. Done!

Helping a friend clean out the house of a family member who recently died. Packed up a lot of “stuff” to donate to my charity thrift shop.

Ballroom dance lesson later this afternoon.

Then a relaxing dinner of something?

Started the day off with dog walking and then an hour of Pilates. We then headed over to an auction preview to see if some Stickley pieces were worth bidding on. There’s a table and set of chairs as well as a lamp I’m interested in but I have a feeling the prices will be more than I’m comfortable with. Lunch at a Kurdish cafe where we often go for great food and hospitality. It’s like being in their home, it is just the best. H had lamb kebabs, I had chicken, we both had basmati rice and nok.
I’ve talked to D more in the past few days than the entirety of January, February and March. I’m not complaining. Work is really taking a toll on her. There are some really mean and miserable people in this world. I hope things turn around for her soon. I wish I could tell her to just walk away but I can’t afford her lifestyle.

Well, if everyone has as low expectations for these lunches as I do, I think we are OK. lol We set up lunch for next month, and the woman least like me won’t be there. I’ll be curious to see how the dynamic is when she’s not there.

Funny that you mention it, however. I was texting a bff about this lunch, and she wondered what I get out of these lunches. She noted that I am able to make friends so easily and seeing as how I don’t LOVE this group why do I keep going. Food for thought …

Yum!

My husband has a standing lunch gathering that he isn’t that interested in but he continues to go

I think it’s an obligation at this point. One of the guys isn’t very mobile and my husband goes to help him get in and out of the car. The mobile friend doesn’t drive but the driver has Parkinson’s so husband helps.

Tomorrow they are going to a restaurant he really doesn’t like but he’s still going.

I wish I had the personality to have tons of friends. Lucky you. It’s probably because you are open to new and old experiences

Your dh is a dear.

I told my friend that this group generally wants to eat places I don’t normally go so it gets me out of my comfort zone – or what some might call a rut! It’s good experience for me to be a lady who lunches with other ladies, rather than sitting for hours talking to my oldest and dearest friends. And in case you think I’m kidding — yesterday our foursome met at 12:15 and I insisted that I had to leave at 7:30 before it gets dark. But this group is an exception. I really don’t always have seven-hour lunches, though I almost always do with this particular group, which only gets together three or four times a year.

Update on Xfinity. I went to a nearby store and talked with two guys there. They told me I needed a new set top box ( I am actually familiar with that).I discussed my account with them and got my plan changed a bit and it will now be $50/month cheaper. I have cable, internet and a landline. Also, H’s name is now off of the account completely.

Got home and changed out the box and actually got it working. I was excited about that.

I went to Home Depot and bought soil so I can top up my planters. In few minutes I’m leaving to pick up my 89-y.-o. friend to go to Costco. Then I’ll take the dog to the woods. Making crispy chicken tenders for dinner.

Passover ends at sunset so will be switching back to regular mode and ordering pizza. I probably wouldn’t keep this up (no chametz) except husband wants to do it and he’s the one that moves food around. Our house isn’t kosher normally. I will be happy to take the tablecloth off and put out the spring placemats. I traditionally switch winter to spring after Passover, summer to fall after the High Holidays, fall to winter after Chanukah, and spring to summer when I feel like it. I blame Kohls for starting me on seasonal placemats and runners when they had a 90% end of summer sale on the summer ones decades ago.

Otherwise I really need to start doing PT type exercises for more than my neck; been lazy. And editing photos continues.

Mostly uneventful today. H got his tux for the wedding in 2.5 weeks. It fits. House temp was 57 at lunch but warmed up to 59 now. Low for tonight will be 40, then a high of 75 tomorrow. I forgot we have space heaters. I might get them out for tonight and tomorrow morning. Mostly for the cats. I feel bad for them. I’ve got a heating pad in my recliner that I sit on all winter so I’m toasty warm. Zaxby’s grilled chicken salads for dinner.

I wish today had been uneventful. Early in the day I found out that my late husband’s cousin passed away. She was about 10 years younger than me but we had bonded at a family reunion several years ago and she became my buddy at family events. At the reunions we always did things together like hike, walk on the beach and talk. We could really, really talk to each other.

Her death was not unexpected, she had received a bad diagnosis last year ( on the same day as H) and she was on hospice. But it hit me very hard. My sister in law called me and we were both crying.

After that it was the usual day. But just hard.

We ultimately dropped Comcast because the customer service was so terrible. Impossible to get a hooman, and if you did, they couldn’t solve the problem. H was finally so fed up after calling a few times (I got tired of calling and getting nowehere, so he figured he could do it more successfully – ha!) that he cancelled them. Went to TMobile and saved almost $175/mo between TV, internet and phone (and now I have Netflix included! Oh happy me!).

Today was a travel day for us—D got dropped off at airport by BIL, on his way to work. H and I washed all the bedding & towels and then had lunch and returned rental car. As a lark, we decided to try the SFO AmEx Centurion Lounge (free with the AmEx business platinum card w/in 3 hours of your flight, if there’s space—it was crowded). It was a nice place to relax for a few hours before our flight. It was just past security. They had lots of attractive food—a substantial salad bar, multiple entrees and several desserts plus a bar. While we were there, they finished making ice cream—avocado soft serve & lemon soft serve. The avocado was surprisingly good.
The flight was pleasant and fairly uneventful. Again, my wifi didn’t work and I got booted off my movie so never was able to watch any of the “free entertainment.”
