I got swamped at work all of a sudden. Nothing too terribly stressful yet, but I can’t relax the way I often do, lol. Yesterday during a (very small/informal) meeting, I learned just how much one guy knows about what’s going on in our town. Oh boy, all of the gossip I learned! Some of it quite shocking. It was the most entertaining meeting I’ve been to in years!
I did the stairmonster for an hour this morning, then lifted. My foot has made some good gains in the last couple of days. I have hope that the stress test will be OK in 2 weeks. Now if I can just not do anything stupid between now and then. Easier said than done.
Tonight is eat out/fast food night. Located TBD.

Today, I’m thinking o la doing loads of laundry from our trip. We only have one afternoon appointment today for H and one more tomorrow to finish out the week.
Also just finished modifying a 2nd sleep mask so I will have 2 (in case I lose one) for land of “midnight sun.” I gave D one I had modified previously and modified one last night as well. I cut the thin elastic band on the back on one side and sew a sturdier stretchy elastic cord on that can be tied to the thin elastic, so tension can be adjusted as desired. It’s much more comfortable this way.
We get to celebrate by having lunch at Neiman Marcus with their lovely popovers before they close & leave the mall.
Will also call our friend and see how she’s doing getting her melanoma surgery scheduled.

I know we’re only supposed to report on what we’re doing today, but oh my - a week of neighborhood drama. Last week H noticed overflow at a manhole cover that is in the rear of our property and serves two other properties (not ours). He promptly called the city, they came immediately and remedied the issue. Yesterday, our neighbor sent a text that a month ago she had noticed the overflow and now our very nice newest neighbors had been staying in a hotel as they were having sewer issues. Did we know anything about this? She was only asking as she noticed the white powder (lime) around the manhole. Immediately I’m thinking you noticed this a month ago and yet did nothing? All you had to do was say something or call the city! It’s on your property line too! So I have been stewing over this. Happily H knows the newest neighbor and helped him connect with the city so he didn’t end up having to have his yard excavated. Whatever happened to neighbors looking out for each other? Or just basic communication? She’s the one who was angry we didn’t sell my mother’s house (where we currently live) as they had friends, “a nice young family” who were interested. I hope her pillow is always hot.
Yesterday was Pilates and a vet visit for Sabadog’s Librela injection. We went out for Mexican food. Today I have run some errands and am now baking an angel food cake. It is very warm here - high risk of wildfires due to 90 degree temps, low humidity and the wind. I need to call our accountant as we are planning to sell this house next year but I want to make sure I’m within the time frame for the capital gains exclusion. I think I’ll wait and give her a chance to recover from tax season!

I learned mahjong today, and I won! I was so excited, but there was controversy. For the players on here …
The hand i played called for three flowers and five consecutive numbers of three different suits. The example shows 1 2 3 of one suit and then four 4s of a second suit and four 5s of a third suit. Makes sense. I played the three flowers and then 9 8 7 of one suit, then four 6s of a second suit and then four 5s of a third suit. Three flowers and five consecutive numbers. Nowhere does it say it was to be an ascending sequence … why can’t it be a descending sequence?
Y’all, this was my first time playing ever. I don’t even know if what I was playing is called a hand. I literally had “known” the game for three hours. One newbie player said she’d allow it, another praised my ingenuity and cleverness and, of course, one is like absolutely not. Lol. I absolutely met the stated criteria of the hand, and if there was some unspoken rule they should’ve spoken it. I def count this as a win!
I’m going to tag @FallGirl to see whether her group would allow a descending sequence. I’m gonna Google it. I just think it’s funny that people acted like I was trying to get one over on them, when I don’t know enough to try to game the game.
The food was great!
Meanwhile, my bff is out of surgery, and her dh texted that things seem to have gone well. I will feel better after they biopsy the giant polyp to ensure it’s not cancer.

IDK -I will have to ask my group next time I play. IMO if it does not specify it must be ascending I think it counts!
So last year I did the same thing. It caused quite the discussion
One of our players called the mahjong league and they said that no it could only be ascending numbers not descending.
I personally felt that I was more clever than the mahjong league but that was the official answer

Today I flew to Seattle to see S2 and DIL. Got to watch two movies while in flight, which was a treat – What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Bugonia.

That cracks me up that you did the same thing.
But, yeah, I think that because I just learned today I brought a fresh perspective and didn’t know enough to know that that’s not allowed. Technically, we followed the letter of the law. Sorry that we are outside-the-box thinkers!

Dh is finally home after over two weeks of travel. He usually feeds and takes our dog out in the morning since he works from home. While he was gone, I got in the habit of getting up a little earlier and taking our dog for a walk, rather than just in the yard to relieve herself, to stimulate her out a little since she’d be home alone all day. I was really enjoying the morning fresh air. Anyway, today I had to go into work early, so no time for a walk. Bummer, it was perfect weather.
Dh made a nice dinner then afterward I mentioned how I missed my morning walk that I’d been enjoying. It was a beautiful spring evening so we took our dog for a two mile walk.
About to do a little online shopping then start a new book before bed.

Experienced Mah Jongg player and teacher here. In the above example, needs to be ascending like the example hand on the card, and this hand would need to start with a 5 or lower to leave room for the sets of 4 (kongs) There are hands like this most years. There isn’t enough room on the card to spell out a detail like this. You will learn them as you play more, so please don’t get discouraged. When I teach either informally or in a group, I point out things like this. If there were points for creativity you could earn some, but not earn a win.

Update: Having just double-checked, a 2019 NMJL Bulletin ruling specifically defines a “Run” as “an ascending or DESCENDING numerical sequence”. ng
So if the card says “any run” then it can be ascending or descending numbers.
However the word “consecutive” means ascending numbers. Consecutive numbers are defined as those numbers that follow each other in increasing order from smallest to largest with no missing numbers in between.

I pulled an all-nighter and I’m still going. My client’s client is screaming for shop drawings. Huh, I submitted the first go-round back in JULY and I don’t have much patience for their histrionics. Some of the poorest construction documents I’ve seen, and that’s saying something.
My client is very nice but I can tell he’s stressed. So I’ll do everything I can to help him out. I want this to be a long-term relationship - it will be a great source of work for years, potentially. And wow, they don’t just want the Cadillac product, they want the Rolls Royce version! Fine with me, I like working like that.
I figure I’ll just keep going until I drop, and then take a long nap.

No gym today - resting heart/foot - so I “slept in” until 5:15. I do like to see H before he leaves for work. And then it gave me time to do a lot of German work (French/Spanish will be later). And then I practiced piano for 45 minutes. I started working on the aeolian harp etude a few weeks ago, and I’m pleasantly surprised how quickly it’s come together. It still needs work, and sounds kinda sad on my poor little old piano, but I felt good enough to record it for my sister/H. H loved it - I only practice when he’s not home - but he doesn’t know much about music, lol.
Speaking of pianos. I should get it worked on - at least tuned. It hasn’t been touched in over 30 years and 3 moves. But then I think - eh… why spend the $$$. My house temp fluctuates over 15 degrees back/forth constantly in the spring/fall and it might be a waste of $$$. And who really cares… I don’t play for anyone but myself… My dilemma…
Have a lot of work to get done (at work) today. Yesterday was wonderfully productive though. And then probably waffles for dinner and our usual Friday Target run. And then watch some movie (TBD) at home tonight.

Oh, I’m not discouraged at all! I have no ego tied to this after one afternoon. I told them at the table in the middle of the game that I would be throwing myself on the mercy of the court, because I knew someone would object.
Now, if I played for months and never won, I’d feel discouraged.
