What are you doing today?

This week has been the usual Pilates and dog walks. Today was a quick trip to Costco this morning and then this afternoon was a new lifelong learning class on the Russian silver age. It will continue through May. I love art, music and literature so this is a wonderful class for me.

We pay for Carbonite to back our files up constantly. It’s not cheap but the peace of mind is worth it.

Technically I think I could use One Drive to back up but have had no desire to get into that. I also learned that I can back up all my photos onto Amazon Photos if I download them app on my desktop. With Amazon Prime, I have u limited photo storage.

We do not really have much other kind of documents other than a few personal tracking spreadsheets so not such an issue.

I got home after 10PM last night but am happy to be here and sleep in my own bed. Skipping yoga today, though.

I have a few miscellaneous things to do today, to include finally putting my snow shovels and salt in the garage. Yes, I left them out this long so we wouldn’t get a late snow.

Later I’ll be going to D’s house to spend the weekend with her and the grandkids. SIL is flying to NYC today to meet up with some buddies and his brother to run Sunday’s Brooklyn Half.

Working from home this morning. This afternoon heading to Torrey Pines for a 5 mile hike by the beach. After that I will enjoy an Aperol Spritz!

Use Google Photos. Easy peasy and good quality pics.

I go today for my cataract surgery consult. I woke up surprisingly nervous about it. About to hop on the treadmill to work out the willies.

Dh and I might try to finish Running Point. We have four episodes left, and it’s such a quick watch. Tonight, wtching the Spurs, probably without Wemby. But I say let him sit so he can fully heal. He’s such a good guy; I just want him to fully recover.

A successful day so far.

  • went for labs and parked in the new huge garage next to the new huge outpatient clinic and made it out in the half hour free parking timeframe.
  • while waiting for labs, Hector my computer guy called that he dropped my recovered files and external hard drive at the pick up store.
  • picked them up and the store was kinda sorta between the labs and my next errands.
  • got the last non-sesame Challah and the last orange chocolate scone at Con Pane Liberty Station. And a cinnamon roll, not the last one.
  • someone pulled out of a space very close to Trader Joe’s but not in their scary U-shaped dedicated lot. So I didn’t have to risk limbs and bumpers.
  • TJ’s had everything I went for and more - including chocolate mousse eggs which were still around.
  • just finished backing up my recovered files from the flash drive onto my desktop hard drive. Whew.

It’s a lovely day and if I also lived near Torrey Pines, would consider a walk there. Not five miles though! I do live near plenty of great places to walk but am not pushing my luck and just relaxing at home.

Edit to add that husband just texted after he finished playing tennis that if I want to eat out on this lovely day (lunch) he’ll be home shortly. You bet! Off to Raglan House in Ocean Beach for lamburgers!

I’ll be going to the library to pick up some “new” (to me) books.

Then I’m having lunch with about 18 people who are all members of a group I belong to. We have lunch at different restaurants once a month. I really enjoy this group.

Then I’ll take the pup for our 3-mile walk and hang out with the other dog moms and dads in the meadow at the dog park. Also a very good group!

And I’ll make something chicken-y for dinner. I don’t eat fish, so for dinner I alternate red meat and poultry to keep our arteries somewhat unclogged.

Exercised and then walked the dog 1.5 miles. Having some breakfast and then doing a volunteer stint for a few hours at a local nature and art education center that I am on the board of - it’s sort of an earth day event. Weather is fine, a little damp after overnight rain and probably cloudy most of the day but around 60.

Afterwards I’m going to go venture to a new outdoor garden center. Got my front porch ferns yesterday (you CANNOT beat the $19.99 HUGE ferns at Costco!) - repotted them and hung them and I’d like to finish the rest of the front porch. Then maybe post it on the outdoor living thread.

I have been not into meat lately but trying to get protein otherwise. And I’m in the mood for a tasty “junk” meal so I’m making loaded fries for dinner. I’ll bake the fries and then top with diced vegetables, herbs, cheese, pickled something, some condiments. Sort of like fries nachos!

I started season 2 “Jury Duty” (not a jury, lol) last night so will watch some of that.

Not sure what H is up to but my day is planned!

Had lunch with a couple of high school friends, including one who I haven’t seen in 10 years. Caught up on the news of many classmates (what they are doing now and, sadly, those who passed away). Chatted for a long time and decided another lunch date is needed. Fun time.

Today, I made reservations for our 1st & last nights’ dinner for our trip to Scandinavia. 1st night is Helsinki and we will go to Lappi. Last night is in Bergen and we will go to an intimate Scandinavian place—Spisekroken. Both have great reviews.

I also regretfully declined going to the Icebar, as we can’t take temperatures that cold—my lower limit is 50-60F. H is fairly uncomfortable below 50 as well. We told our friends they can go and regale us but sadly we are unfit. Haha!

We also tried out the calf compression sleeves we got on Amazon. They seem OK.

Also obtained beverages in containers that will be our water bottles for the trip. I’m also practicing buying things with my AppleWatch (when there are no lines & everyone speaks English).

All in all, things are shaping up nicely. Now, if only my medical equipment would arrive!

We are opening our cottage this weekend. Fortunately, it’s small … I cleaned everything, washed the walls, made up the beds. My lower back hurts, but I accomplished a lot.

I (and maybe H) will be going to next door’s open house (they’re moving to NYC). It’s the 1st official open house. (It was broker’s open on Thursday & had a good amount of viewers & interest). They’ve been good neighbors and we hope the new ones will also be great. We never really got to know the neighbors until the past few years, and will really miss them now that we’ve started socializing with them (they’re the ones who let us have my best friend stay as a houseguest when S was getting married).

Fingers crossed new neighbors will be amazing!

Just finished swapping the original black laces in my new Hoka shoes for black elastic which I feel works better for me. It also is better at staying tied.

Tasting vino after a great shopping trip to the amazing plant nursery. Scored a beautiful rhododendron that should grow to 10 feet tall. Husband bought a couple of Nepeta Cataria plants. God save my flower patch… it will be trampled by the neighborhood cats!

My neighbor just gave me several mounds of nepeta - I don’t know that it’s all going to take but the one thing here is that the deer leave it alone!

I am having a sports-watching weekend while also listening to live music at Stagecoach on SiriusXM. Boy, the headliners are headliners for a reason. Cody Johnson was fantastic the first night, and Lainey Wilson was amazing last night (although it just aired this afternoon because the show was postponed for hours due to high winds). Not that excited about Post Malone tonight, but i hope they air Brooks & Dunn.

Also, Go, Spurs, Go!

Oh, and I let dh read the resonses to my post on the cataract thread. Everyone is so helpful. :purple_heart:

Apparently it even repels the deer! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Today I had an appointment with a personal shopper at my nearby Nordstrom. I need black slacks. I made the appointment online yesterday, and the system asked what I was looking for. I entered that I was looking for black slacks in a size 2 petite. (Yeah, I’m small.) I showed up to the appointment on time; the Nordstrom lady showed up on time; and she had no idea what I was looking for. Apparently she never saw the initial request for the appointment. Not only that, she told me that they don’t carry petites in the store! So we walked around the women’s section for a brief while while she gathered a couple of possibilities in regular sizes. She said she could scan them and her computer would tell her if the manufacturers offered petite sizes. I knew that none of the brands she collected – Theory, Ted Baker, St. John’s, a few other fancy brands – don’t make petites!!

A total waste of time. I’m really pissed. (I was lovely to her, though.) I have no idea how their system works, that she didn’t even see my original request.

So I came home and ordered some pants from White House Black Market and J.Jill, which do offer petite sizes. At least one of them will be adequate, but jeez. I’m still really annoyed.

That would annoy the heck out of me.
We had a really nice day today. We took the scenic route over to Charlottesville and it was a beautiful day. Everything was so green and lush. We did some recreational shopping at the book store, cooking store and Whole Foods. I got some new accessories for the pizza oven we are still trying to get the hang of. Coming back there was fog at the top of the mountain, near the park entrance but we passed through to brilliant sunshine on the other side. It was just a nice way to spend the day. I bought ham and Comte cheese so we had a nice jambon beurre for lunch/dinner while we watched the King address Congress. The dogs were happy to see us return - I’m sure they thought we had driven to Montana or Wyoming and were gone for good.
