What are you doing today?

I already did a run to the grocery store to get things for DH to eat today – Jello, popsicles, broth, clear juice. He’s got a colonoscopy/endoscopy tomorrow AM. I’m starting to feel a bit more like myself, after my tummy bug, so I’ll run a few errands and maybe – just maybe – even show my face at the gym.

I’ve been following your travel posts a bit HIMom, is this a commercial tour or all planned by you from place to place? I used to do all my planning, but have in later years enjoyed turning it over to a tour company.

It’s still raining. It’s been raining pretty much since Friday. Spent a very chilly holiday weekend at the shore. The highlight of a trip where it was too cold & wet to even go to the beach was seeing the wild horses at Assateague. I saw 2 groups of ponies. One was family group with a new foal. Very special since mares are only allowed to breed once in their lifetime.

The second highlight was sitting in the back of the SUV eating PB&J sandwiches in the rain and noticing the car parked next to us in the WAWA lot had a NASA sticker on the back. GS (age 3) asked the person who was driving car if he made rockets. He said no, he was a cosmologist. What a very cool job! SIL and driver geeked out a bit since SIL started out his career doing astrophysics calculations during grad school.

Decided since it’s too wet to do much of anything, I thought I would try to organize my space. I started by emptying all the dresser drawers and the closet and am editing my stuff. Will make a trip to Goodwill later today (or maybe tomorrow.)

Was supposed to have phone appt with anesthesiology about my surgery next week, but they never called! I called them & left a message. A medical assistant called back and admitted they goofed up and missed my appointment and wanted to set up a new time. It has to be today since surgery is 5 days away. They offered me a time that was smack in the middle of dinnertime. When I said that wasn’t convenient, they offered me another time when Il’l be driving to pick up grandkids to take them to swim lessons. Since it took 4 months to schedule the surgery and I really don’t want to have to reschedule it I’ll guess I’ll be missing dinner tonight… color me annoyed.

You do seem to go to extremes, hot and cold!

My dear friend planned it as she loves planning and having the timing and details she prefers. We mostly just nodded and paid what she said is our share. We have started to go on tours as well—easier and less planning.

Well, it was just getting warm in AZ as we left (still cool mornings and evenings), and today in Maine was a glorious 80 degrees. We decided not to “work” today and headed in to Kennebunkport to enjoy champagne and lobster fried rice at our favorite place on the Kennebec:

Then, an afternoon of strolling through shops, stopping for iced coffees, more shopping, and then home to relax on the porch.

Maine, the way life should be.

@ChoatieMom- just finished a long lunch with my friend that is here from Wells Maine which is very near Kennebunkport. And the best news was the sun did come out in La Jolla for our lunch over looking the ocean!

Today is a recovery day, I am exhausted after one of the best concerts I have ever been to. A nice short trip to DC and a trip through the land of hope and dreams.

Spent two hours in the garden this morning, did my brain puzzles, took a 5 mile loop along the lakefront, and went to pick up cards for various celebrations.

Home for a couple of days before we head out with the 5th wheel for a couple of weeks.

Coffee and puzzles to start. Folded the laundry. Can I just roll the sheets into a ball and take them back to our other place?

I have to mow the grass in the front and back yards so it looks decent. Then off to a winery tasting room to pick up the order of rosé they have in for us, grocery store for what I want to take along, pack up clothes, maybe drop off the huge bag of used Nespresso capsules…I know I’ll forget something.

Maybe a sit in the hot tub tonight with a martini.

Today my car is getting its oil and brake fluid changed. Then it’s going to the car wash because apparently the crows have been using it for target practice.

I worked out, ran errands and walked in the woods at the park. We were lucky enough to be greeted by three wild turkeys, and we encountered two deer. One of the deer stopped in front of us to stare at us - I told H the little guy must have thought we looked like nice grandparents.

Took a walk around the neighborhood lake then gathered up some things D and SIL are having picked up from my house ( see my Bag a Week post). Strength training class, shower, threw a load of laundry in. Heading to Mahjong soon.

Getting ready to leave again tomorrow-fourth time out of town since mid April. Another thing with H’s family. Looking forward to staying put for awhile.

Got up at a ridiculous hour to take DH to the hospital for his endoscopy and colonoscopy. Hung around waiting for The Call, which finally came at 10:30.

I finally went to the gym, after over a week not going – the grandchildren and the stomach flu intervened. I expect I’ll be sore tomorrow, which is fine with me. Walked the dog on our long walk.

Chatted with/whined to my sister about my difficult week. And day. I’m hopeful that things get back to normal – eg, quiet, with no medical issues and no unpleasant appointments scheduled.

About to start dinner. Very simple – breaded and browned thin chicken cutlets topped with tomato sauce, parmesan, and mozzarella, served with spaghetti and asparagus. I have no energy to do anything fancy, or requiring more than four ingredients.

I got a lot of work done. Now I need to pack for our four-day anniversary weekend getaway. 40 years!! We’re going to the von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. I went there with my daughter in the fall of 2021, when Vermont was like a ghost town. It’s a wonderful place to stay. DH has no idea where we’re going. I found several scenic places we’ll stop at on the way. I’ll just tell the next destination as we go. I’ve signed up for a hike with the goats, ha, as well as yoga, massage, a hike in the woods, a tour of the lodge, and a maple sugar tour. I have reservations for all three nights. Planning everything was fun.

AND I’ve been married long enough to know that DH just does not think of doing anything for events like this without prompting, so this morning, I said, “OK. Just a hint. It’s our ANNIVERSARY on Sunday…” He said, “Of course!” Then he headed out to the store. He got me wine, chocolate, and a card, and not much later flowers showed up at the door. It took me a few years to realize that I can ask for things in order not to be disappointed! He’s a fantastic husband and I don’t mind prompting him.

Woke up to beautiful sunshine this morning, the first time I’ve seen sun since last Wednesday. Unfortunately I could not take advantage of the weather as I had to work. I did eat my lunch outside today.

Work was stressful today! But I came home to a freshly mowed lawn, and dinner prepped by dh. We had fish tacos. We then took advantage of the amazing weather and just got back from an hour walk with our dog.

I’m now sitting on the porch, a little sad b/c D21 left today to work in Chicago for the summer before finishing her last semester of college in the fall. She is the youngest of our four kids, and I realized today she will probably never live at home again. Not quite ready for the empty nest!

Disappointed that the forecasted rain passed us by. Maybe tomorrow. Finally finished cleaning the remaining windows and screens and uncovering the lower-level furniture and moving everything back into place. The cabin is officially open for the season. We enjoyed soft jazz and martinis on the porch while DH grilled salmon to accompany steamed green beans. Maybe tomorrow we’ll have our first ice cream by the lake. I can’t wait to fall asleep tonight so I can get up and enjoy the smell of coffee mingled with pine.

Leisurely morning while I wait for the temps to warm up some - favorite tea, puzzles and then a long lake walk. H returns from a business trip so I’ll need to make real dinner tonight ; )

I’m finally feeling 99% over my head cold so added bonus for me.
