Today, we had a surprise visit to a Norwegian island and talked to a very nice resident who took us on a tour of 1/2 of the island before walking us back to the pier to catch the ferry back to where we started so we could figure out how to get to Con Tiki Museum and the Fram Museum—voyaging explorers. We caught a bus there and then a ferry back to Oslo, and then a bus from ferry to the hotel!
We all agreed it was kind of nice to get lost and chat with the nice woman who was happy to walk us around her island and chat about it. Only 3 colors are allowed for houses there (& they have to be proper shade), red, green and blue. If you want to change drone one color to one of the others, you need to get approval. Sizes of homes are also very limited.
Planted an evergreen tree. 7’ tall in a 10-gallon pot. It was a lot of work making a big enough hole and taking the tree out of the pot. It’s in perfectly.
Got to get up at 3am again today, so I could be up with H and at the gym at 4:15. But then I was done early and had time to myself before work. I practiced piano. Work has been work. ”They don’t call it chuckles.” I did find a credit card on the ground when I came back. I turned it in and the sheriff said “I’ll just add it to the stack.” Oh well.
Now I’m deciding whether or not to fill out another FedEx survey. They just sent me 2 more emails saying my case was closed, a third saying thank you for your business, and a 4th saying could I fill out a survey. All for the same item/case number. SMH
H is going to see some horror movie at the theater tonight for half price Tuesday. I don’t do horror in the theaters. So I will have a couple of hours to myself Woo hoo!
Slow re-entry here. I took a long walk on the beach, did some chores in the garden, put away laundry, caught up on some phone calls, and started some preparation for hosting my H’s family.
Got a few administrative things done this morning. Made a few appointments .Emailed the landscaping guy and attached some pictures. Took a 3 mile walk to the lake around a bit and back. Stopped at the optometrist office and had my prescription sunglasses adjusted. Went to my strength training and lifted 10 pounds more ( than last week) on my back squats.
This morning I picked up the house for our monthly housecleaning that my dad pays for (since I do a lot overseeing his financial affairs). Then I drove two hours up to Bangor for a meeting of the Board of Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center. Sounds odd, but I really enjoyed the drive and the meeting. Such a pleasure to see a well-run organization. No drama at all. Very different from the other organization I’m involved with. Now I’ll work on precast concrete detailing for a middle school in Massachusetts.
This morning, packed. Sabapup to the kennel. Stress over trying to get her a specialist vet appointment that they’re jerking me around on. Drove to DC for the Springsteen concert tomorrow night. Had Italian for dinner. Hoping to get some sleep!
Audiology appts this morning (we stopped first to bring them donuts), then to get cardiac clearance (ekg) for DH and then to his orthopod appt and schedule surgery. Then came home in a torrential downpour and made chocolate pudding (yum) and dinner. And getting ready for a high maintenance houseguest (friend of DH’s) the day before surgery. Sigh…..
I am currently at Petco Field for Jewish Heritage Night. Our Rabbi threw out the first pitch, the head of the JFL sang the national anthem, and our special tickets included Padre themed menorahs.
It was also general theme giveaway night, Southwest Padre 250th America Hawaiian shirts. Very garish but free!
I don’t really have any interest in baseball but like free swag.
Closed the sale of the synagogue building today. Have cried a lot over the past few days. Still have much more work to do; am frustrated with board members who refuse to think or analyze and dump tasks on me. H has been an amazing resource and sounding board.
Will really miss our broker. She feels like a friend after over a year and a wild adventure getting the building sold. Am also missing my dear friend who passed away suddenly a couple months ago. She used to come camping with us over Memorial Day, so this weekend was raw.
Pup had chemo today. Sailed through as usual, but she has gained weight. She and I took a walk tonight. We can both use it.
The ants are marching ten by ten into the house; it always happens in May, but it’s really bad this year. Today they found my plants in the bay window. Definitely not good; ant like to “farm” insect eggs and spread them from one plant to another. Trying to eliminate the phermone tracks that tell the ants where to go. Would also help if DH cleaned up his mess after cooking and eating.
Another cloudy, foggy dismal day here with severe storms predicted for this evening. Very humid too. We haven’t seen the sun in a week!
I’m working all day then my book club meets tonight. I debated going b/c I didn’t read the book (Theo of Golden). I never got off the wait list at the library then May passed by so quickly I forgot about it. I rarely buy books and last time I did, the book was so awful I could not finish so felt I wasted my money!
Tonight is D21’s last night home so I decided to skip since I hadn’t read the book anyway. She heads back to Chicago tomorrow for the summer/last year of college so I want to hang out with her.
First run this year in a 70* dewpoint. It was not fun. But it’s done. Then lifted and onto work. But, I am at “use or lose",” so I’m leaving shortly and will have a 4 hour lunch to go home, play piano, do some of my ultra stinky laundry, and take a nap before heading back for the afternoon. Then it’s Walmart Wednesday. Thunderstorms here tonight as well. We’ve had some good ones the last couple of days. Last night knocked out power to 2000 households in our little city. Fortunately, ours was not one of them!
I’m working from home this morning and it’s H’s birthday. H has to go in the office, but we will have steaks for dinner tonight. I am taking a long lunch today since a good friend of mine is in town from Maine. She wanted to eat outside at a favorite La Jolla spot, but it looks like it will be a bit cool with no sun. Another friend that lives here will join us too. The 3 of us always have a great time when we are together!
