Hope all of you have a nice day!! We’re off to our anachronistic, small-town parade in a few minutes!! I’m sure we’ll have plenty of adopteds over for a great dinner and tons of fireworks. Hope each of you has a fun, relaxing, safe Fourth!

I’ve already hung our flag out front, and am getting ready to watch Joey Chestnut from right here in San Jose attempt to beat the six-time champion, Takeru Kobayashi from Japan, at the annual [Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Competition](www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19535046/) on Coney Island. (ESPN is being nice enough to broadcast it. ) It’s shaping up to be quite a match.

Later we’ll take a hike and probably float in the pool. Leisurely dinner and sitting on the roof of my H’s office for a great view of the fireworks over Shoreline Ampitheatre (no personal fireworks allowed here).

Our son is out of town, so we’re not doing the parade thing this year. Had fireworks last night on Lake Champlain. I’m making a scrapbook for my son’s coach to commemorate our first state championship. Kind of fun.

Go to the beach for a while, have a cookout by our pool later on. Some neighbors are having a party, we might stop in a say hi!!! There’s a baseball stadium up the road and they have a game tonight followed by fireworks. If it’s too late to get tickets, we can see the fireworks from our backyard.

We were at a swim meet this morning. The team did well and my kid PRed which always makes him happy. We just found out that one of our rising senior girl swimmers got the NCAA official calls the other day from UVA, Yale, and STANFORD. We are all so psyched for her. It couldn’t happen to a nicer family!

MANY CONGRATS to your kiddo for the PR!!! There’s a nice July 4th celebration!!! How exciting for the teammate, too, on the amazing NCAA calls!!! Wow…your team must be incredible!!! :)

Umm. Not much going on around here. Maybe we’ll stop by Berurah’s later. Just kidding. :). Though I have to say my best Fourth of July times have been in the midwest, at the lake, shooting off and watching the fireworks.

Happy Fourth of July to all! Congratulations on the PR, Motherdear!

Awwwww, sweetie, you’re welcome here ANYtime you can get here!!! Wish you WEREN’T kidding!!! We’d SO love to have you celebrate with us! With the sheer numbers of our two families, we could set off some MAJOR fireworks!!

My D leaves for camp tommorow & yesterday I spent all day talking to various ins companies on the phone-( & running around trying to get her prescriptions filled-) finding out that my H changed our ins ( which took effect July 1st) didn’t realize it & that the new ins, didn’t cover my daughters doctor appt that she had yesterday.( and it also has changed the way it covers prescriptions- why is it , it cost * us* more money, but has less coverage?)

So today?
I am going to work in the yard- while we get the last few things we need- and then I am thinking of having a couple beers while I barbeque-
( we also can see the big fireworks from about a block away- or from our attic)

We will have a midday barbecue, since dh works swing shift and is working the holiday (have to pay those tuition bills somehow!). One of my son’s trumpet students gave him several cases of pop, left over from his 8th grade graduation party, so son plans to have his friends over tonight for a barbecue. (Hot dogs were buy one, get two free last week, so we are ready!)

I will try to get some writing done and remain inobtrusive when son’s friends are over. They actually don’t mind having me around, but I don’t like to intrude.

Tomorrow son leaves for another summer music program.

ldgirl and I are at my mother’s house about 3 hours south of Houston watching it rain (it has rained everyday since June 13th!). My mom had chemo yesterday and it had been rough going during those first couple of days after a treatment so we make the trip down to help out. But this time, docs tried a new mix of anti-nausea drugs and she is doing FANTASTIC so far. So even though no fireworks or bbq for us this year, I’d have to say we are having a great 4th! :)

Wonderful news, ldmom! I hope your mom continues to feel well and recover quickly!

On a more prosaic note, I am doing nothing today because I woke up in the middle of the night with a gruesome back spasm centered over one shoulder blade, radiating pain down my arm, up to my jaw, and all over my back. Never had anything like it before (probably caused by much vacation kayaking, some weightlifting and all around too much enjoying my two weeks off.)

So, between my inability to move much, and threatening rain/thunderstorms, we have pretty much decided to hang at home. Maybe I’ll make it out for fireworks tonight, should they still happen.

Laid hardwood flooring all morning till just now. I’m done for the day. Too tired and gotta enjoy at least a little bit of the 4th right? Going over to a neighbor’s for a cookout. Will run into a college buddy at the cookout who doesn’t know I am coming and hasn’t seen me in 10 years. Will be fun. Probably go to bed early. Work tomorrow. Wish the 4th wasn’t on a Wed this year. Happy 4th to all. Today was our 20th wedding anniversary too. My wife said, “hey isn’t the 20th anniversary platinum?” I told her, “no honey, the 20th anniversary is wood, hardwood flooring!” She didn’t find that too funny.
