What are your thoughts about travel in the time of Covid?

DW and I bought our tix to Portugal last night for a two week vacation…hoping we are able to go. We went to Croatia and Greece this summer and the reduced number of tourists made it wonderful…

I’m in a research study on vaccine efficacy in cancer patients, so I need to find out if getting the third vax will mess with the next phase of the study. I’m only four months out from my second vaccination, so in theory I have some time before it’s urgent – but that depends on my numbers.

I’d get in touch with the study coordinator of your research study for advice snd recommendations. I’m sure others in the study have the same or similar concerns.

I think your well being trumps the study.

I’m sure being well is the most important but I would suspect the study coordinator has recommendations that can be considered. I’m quite sure this issue is being weighed by many other study participants and the coordinator also wants participants to remain healthy.

Do this! Julian is a charming town. The drive there is very pretty and varied. The apple pie is absolutely the best we have ever had. I don’t think there is a wrong place to get it!

we also just spent 2 weeks in Greece. It was wonderful without all of the tourists. Portugal was our last trip in 2019. Also spent 2 weeks and it was just a great trip.

Leaving in 4 weeks for 8 days in Switzerland and 5 in France. Keeping up with all the requirements. We are vaccinated and hoping to get a booster before we go. Fortunately we are healthy.

France may soon bar leisure travelers from the US, based on the recent EU recommendation. Make sure you plan accordingly.

Switzerland has just been added to CDC’s “Do Not Travel” list. Even though it isn’t part of EU, it’s also likely to follow EU’s recommendation.

I thought the new EU guideline was for unvaccinated. Are you saying that vaccinated U.S. citizens won’t be able to travel to France possibly?

Yes. I believe the unvaccinated can’t travel to EU, but the vaccinated must demonstrate a need (other than leisure) for travel. It’s only a recommendation at this point, though.

Knowing things can change anytime we are not getting too excited just yet. We have the flexibility to change last minute if needed.

We aren’t planning anything big just yet, don’t want to have to cancel at the last minute, even with travel insurance. We’ve gotten to travel a lot and we will get to travel a lot. Having to postpone trips isn’t the worst thing. I’ve met plenty of people who are happy to still have a job…
Personally, flying is enough of a hassle in normal times. Why travel now when it’s going to be even more hassle? At our local airport several flights are being cancelled…

I think it’s better if they restrict travel for the time being. The last thing we need is for this whole COVID thing to get worse.

Yeah, I’d personally wait to go overseas until this all blows over. H hates flying in the best of times, and a delay like that caused by a rude passenger would just irk him and put him in a bad mood…

The idea of possibly needing medical attention due to covid or whatever in another country that may be having a surge in cases is very very offputting to us.

Same with me. And honestly, I get people have had to cancel trips and people have places they want to go…but a lot of people don’t need to travel now. Why not just wait? I don’t mean to judge other people, they can do what they want. But, I don’t need to travel. And I can wait. Plus, I’ve gotten to travel a lot…

We still like traveling, but are keeping it to the US due to people here being able to be vaccinated if they want to be and vaccines still holding up well against serious Covid cases - plus, we’re not opposed to wearing masks if it’s common in the area we go to (or not if it’s not common).

In some other countries vaccination is also easily possible (none we’ve really wanted to go to soon), but in others we’d been considering, it’s not, so we’re waiting on those.

I’m waiting until I don’t have to wear a mask for 6+ hours on a plane, plus airports, taxis, buses etc… I too have been fortunate to travel fairly extensively BC (before covid) and am willing to wait to take it up again until things improve (hopefully).
