What are your thoughts about travel in the time of Covid?

Ditto. I’m pretty positive I could live 24/7 on the road (or air/train/boat) wandering this planet enjoying myself tremendously.

I don’t think being vaxxed would be enough to make me feel comfortable traveling freely. Being vaxxed, boostered and low risk makes me comfortable. We may get another booster before we travel on our longer trip in May, if recommended.

Me too - really. I would never tire of it.

We just decided to not even chance a European vacation this year and booked a private cabin in the mountains at a resort for next Fall. It’s been on our bucket list for a while and last year we were too late and nothing was available when we wanted to travel. We’re excited.

I just returned from a 10-day trip to Paris and Normandy. I applied for and received a Pass Sanitaire in advance before the rule changed at the end of October. My husband did not receive his health pass until we were already in Paris. Until then, he just showed his vaccine card. The pass was required to enter all museums and restaurants with properly worn masks except when eating or drinking. Crowds were generally light but I am not sure if that was just typical for November. We also had to get an antigen test at a pharmacy to depart. Negative results were only asked for by the airline during check in.

To be honest, I almost felt safer in France with the requirements in place than at home.

That’s good to hear since we’re planning to visit those places next summer.

We enjoy travel as well, but haven’t since 2019 due to Covid. We are boostered but high risk and also among the caregivers for 92 year old mom, who is also boostered.

I feel fortunate that I live in an area where folks wear masks indoors and correctly 99% of the time. Our hospitals are not overrun and mostly feel comfortable dining outdoors at restaurants — indoors is ok when there are very few other patrons.

My kids (who are lower risk) come and visit us and we have enough space that we aren’t stepping on one another.

It may be cancelled if countries are closing their borders or the school is concerned about students bringing Omicron home to campus. The other issue is if borders are closed while she’s in Morocco….getting back home could be problematic.

Family members are planning separate two separate trips to Europe in mid December. I have to say…I hope they don’t find themselves stuck in some country.

I have relative touring Europe now. Hope they stay healthy and are able to return to HI as they plan in early/mid Dec.

I traveled so much in the 25 years prior to the Pandemic that I honestly do not need to travel, although I have always enjoyed it and enjoy it still.

But our lives will likely always have travel. We are spending Thanksgiving with our kids on the West Coast. relatives in many

We have a trip to Charleston but are thinking about spending a week with our daughter instead (possibly in Tulum or Baja California Sud). But, we’ll have to see what the Covid situation is at the time.

I have fond memories of traveling back to when I was 6 and in a van with my dad.

No burnout yet here practically half a century later. The burnout comes when I’ve been stationary too long.

I love wandering on a whim. I love new places. I love revisiting old haunts. I skip anything sports related, wine tasting, or cruises, but most anything else is fair game pending the whim of the day when we’re making plans. It can be a year out or next weekend.

I am so happy that in Oct I went to Costa Rica, and just did a cruise. Seems like travel might be going back to square one. The two week pause for Israel is disconcerning as lots of college kids were looking forward to their delayed birthright trips at the end of Dec. Lets keep our fingers crossed that Omicron brings us back to square one. It seems that vaccinated are testing positive, but asymptomatic.

Glad we used up our miles and points on HI travel this year.

D20’s trip to Israel (scheduled departure 12/29) isn’t looking promising. Poor kiddo-just one more disappointment, thanks to covid.

We took a river cruise through Germany, Austria and Hungary November 2-10. Had to have a PCR test pre-departure, a rapid test in Germany before boarding the ship, and another PCR test in Vienna in order to get back into the US. Had to be vaccinated to cruise. Austria was very strict with mask wearing - you had to wear an N95 mask- and show your vaccine card at restaurants. We made it out of there before they locked down. Mask wearing on ship was optional for passengers but mandatory for crew. Ship holds 100 passengers and was only 70% full.

Just returned from another cruise to Bermuda round trip from NYC. Passengers had to be vaccinated, have a PCR test 72 hours prior to departure, a rapid test day of departure and another PCR test on second day of cruise on the ship in order to enter Bermuda. Ship was 40% full and mask wearing on ship was optional for passengers but mandatory for crew.

Leaving ( hopefully) for Phuket, Thailand on 12/26.

My family and I have felt very safe, especially while on flights, and in airports. Yes, you do take a chance of testing positive while abroad, which would throw a huge wrench in your travel plans. But we’re huge travelers and are willing to take that risk. We also choose to wear masks even when optional.

We rebooked a canceled trip to Japan for Summer 2022, but I’m not very optimistic this one won’t get canceled too. Thankfully refundable. I’m also not keen on 12 hour flights in masks plus domestic connections in masks. We are looking at a total of maybe 20+ hours of being in airplanes and airports masked. Typing that out am I wondering wth I was thinking.

Yup, for me, shortest flight to another state is 4-5 hrs of flying plus time to in airport at each end plus time to get any rental car, etc., so that’s easily 7+ hours if no delays. I’m not interested at this time.

My kid is starting to wonder if flying across the country for Christmas is a good idea. I was going to fly back with them and stay for two weeks, then return home mid-January. Hoping for more guidance and reassurance in the next two weeks.
