@privatebank. A lot of songs make me melancholy as well. Songs can take you back to a particular time or event. It’s very personal. Let it Be gets me every time.
Remember the TV series Mad Men? Promos for the finale featured Paul Anka’s Times of Your Life and somehow it made me incredibly sad.
Of course, the opposite is true as well - if I need energy there’s nothing like good classic rock or disco to get going.
Ok, I’ll play. Going to dig into the archives to try not to repeat anyone.

Four season…both. But Frankie is who I was thinking about for this thread.
OK, I admit it. When I’m alone at home, sometimes I crank up Elton John’s Captain Fantastic and let it rip.
Same with Billy Joel’s The Stranger and 42nd St.
My husband hates both musicians.
@wisteria100 Coldplay was the first band I thought of before reading any posts! We saw them in concert (3 years ago I think). I said they could make a fan of anyone if you see them live. Funny, Chris Martin thanked the fans and “the grief you get from your friends for being a Coldplay fan”. U2, INXS, The Cure too. These days I listen to Alt Nation the most. Muse, Young the Giant, Foster the People, Bastille a few of the bands.
I have a good Kenny Loggins story. Close friend bought his house in Santa Barbara. Without going into too much detail, let’s put it this way: a wife, a regular gardener, and later, a divorce…
I thought long and hard about the Rolling Stones. My all-time favorite song of theirs is Gimme Shelter closely followed by Sympathy for the Devil.
Guilty pleasure: The discoesque Miss You.
Good topic…i just returned from visiting my mom’s grave (not sad…she’s been gone for many years and it’s the first chance I’ve had in 4 years to be here in town and make a visit) and i was thinking of old topics as I drove along the windy roads…I’m not sure of my favorites but these renditions of songs, I think about a lot:
Jason Isbell – I"m so tired of traveling alone
Carly Simon – That’s the way I always heard it should be (the 1971 version from central park)
Patti Griffin – Up to the mountain
K.D. Lang – Hallljuah (but it has to be the 2005 performance at the winter olympics in winnipeg)
REM – Don’t go back to Rockville
Glen Campbell – The Wichita Lineman (has to be the Smother Brothers Comedy Hour version from 1970s)
Al Green - Let’s Stay Together
And the fictional character I wonder the most about these days is Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).
After I posted my favorite song by The Killers I went to YouTube and just watched their appearance of this song on Letterman from a while back, rock and roll with a full orchestra. This is like music genius, and I wish I could comprehend how to actually create something like this. It’s very inspiring . It starts off slow and build up to an amazing finish.

My other favorite song from the last decade or so is Arcade Fire’s Wake Up. There is a version with David Bowie which is awesome.
She went back to school, got her law degree and works as an attorney in the entertainment industry.
@SouthernHope I don’t like country, but I love Wichita Lineman by GC. It’s a gorgeous song. I liked the James Taylor version and then listened to GC’s again for the first time in 40 years, and darn it if I didn’t like it better.
