I would be very grateful for any information about BSs that have a year-round swimming for swimmers (where the schools have club swimming at their HS pool).
Mercersburg has swimming all three trimesters.
George (Newtown Pa).
Peddie
Are you interested in schools outside of the Northeast? The Baylor School in Chattanooga,TN and Bolles in Jacksonville FL are well known swimming power houses. Germantown Academy in PA. might be another option.
Germantown Academy is a day school. And yes, has a strong swimming program!
Thanks for correcting me. The New England boarding school I attended way back when competed against them so I wrongly assumed that were also boarding.
Thank you all greatly for the replies.
Apart from Peddie (I guess not really NE but NJ), are there any other New England BSs for year-round swimming? If not an in-school club swimming like Mercersburg, then are there BSs that have strong swimming clubs nearby the school to accommodate competitive swimmers to swim year-round?
I don’t think George is three seasons? There is a club training there all year… if that is what you mean. Can you opt for that instead of a school sport and does the club practice during school hours? One of the challenges with the club teams that use the facilities, even when its the same coach, like Peddie and George, the practices conflict with the school schedule, often overlapping with dinner, study hall, etc…
To clarify so there is no confusion: Peddie School swimmers are members of Peddie Aquatics but are their own training group that practices during the same athletics block as all the other school teams (~3:30 to 5:30), leaving swimmers free to get involved in other aspects of boarding school life.
Most swimmers agree that quality of life is vastly improved by this set up. It doesn’t hurt that you get to roll out of bed at 5:50 for a 6AM workout.
Yes, there is a club there year round, but interscholastic swimming is just winter. I really don’t know the policies, but many of the top GS swimmers also swim for the club team. Practice times are compatible with the school schedule. My guess is that they can use club swimming as their sport in fall and spring, but someone interested in this option would have to ask how that works. I don’t know that.
When my kid was at GS, it was quite difficult to get any club sport schedule to work with school sports, but friends tell me this is no longer the case.
