I’ll start. Spent lots of $$ trying find the perfect pillow! Only to stumble upon a cheap pillow at BBB, bought as a spare for a guest room, which now is my absolute favorite.pillow.ever. Never would have believed it.
What items have you “cheaped out” on, only to be thrilled with the result?
Not sure if this applies. I was walking in CVS and saw one of those hoses that kind of self coil and deflate when you turn off the water - on sale in the “as seen on TV” section.
I will never buy another type of garden hose or use anything else to use on my boat dock ever again. It’s sensational. Lol.
I have one…our living room couch was really in sad shape…and I hated it. DH was not on board with buying a new one at >$1000.
But wait…Big Lots was having a sale for its club members. Everything in the store was, I think, 40% off. So we went. I found a taupe corduroy loveseat. Perfect as we didn’t want a formal look anyway.
$220. It’s the most comfortable place to sit in the house, has held up well. My only regret is I didn’t buy two.
I think that if you mention a specific item (like a specific pillow or brand) you should tell us your story AND see if there is a link to purchase the product!!!
That’s not as cheap as my favorite pillows. I also got them at BBB…honestly don’t recall the brand. But they came in a two pack for $14.99. I first bought them for my sister when i was visiting her because what she had belonged in the trash…and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. But I really liked them…so bought for myself when I got home.
They still have them…or something like them…in one of those center of the aisle bins near the linens.
^ I tried one of those hoses on a whim too and I absolutely love it! Agree - I’ll never own another heavy, awkward to roll up hose.
My husband was mesmerized by the My Pillow guy at our Costco a couple years ago. I was skeptical and asked a lot of questions, but my husband was sold so we became proud owners of a set of My Pillows. Two years later and I’ve got to say - I love my My Pillow! I don’t toss and turn any more and I had had issues with that for years. I wouldn’t call it cheap but I may never need to replace it, so it’s a good investment.
Cheap - we found two club chairs at goodwill for $10 each. They are the most comfortable chairs in our house! We’ve had them for at least 10 years now.
I think we normally buy a lot of cheap stuff. I’ll need to think for a bit to identify the good decisions!
We sold a home recently and I had to purchase some cheap household decor items for staging. I bought a $30 off white coverlet from Walmart to brighten up my master bedroom. I ended up loving it and it’s currently on my bed in my new home. Soft, silky and lightweight. And it’s layered on top of a $15 comforter we picked up for my daughter to use on one of her overnight college visits! Again, smooth and light. Very comfy.
And I hate my pillows too! We agreed as a family this year to get each other only four gifts: something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read. We drew names so everyone had a chance to buy gifts for more than one person (there are four of us). My daughter got my “need” gift and I told her I wanted a nice pillow! The one she got me was a vast improvement over what I had, but it’s not as comfortable as I’d like.
Ordered a beautiful beaded Elie Tahari dress on TJMaxx online for $150. When I received it, it was even more gorgeous in person, and the tag showed that the retail price was $698! Sadly I had to return it because it didn’t fit me right ?
@privatebanker – I just checked out those hoses: amazing! can you store them outside? Are they something I could keep outside in a snowy climate? How long to they last?
@katliamom I haven’t left them out after fall. I’m not sure. They were fine in a RI type spring frost.
They don’t last forever the way I use them for nozzle washing down a boat regularly. It develops a tear near the nozzle. The one I use at my house for normal watering and perhaps a car wash has lasted over three years.
However, I will never fight with a hose again. Lol. Not just the simplicity when you go to use it being so light and flexible. The joy of just wrapping it into a neat circle when finished using it is the real joy- I never knew I needed. Lol again!
