I am tempted to sign up for a Kohls credit card–all of their sales seem to require that purchases be made with a Kohls charge.

We pay off our balance every month and presently we use our Costco AmEx for all of our charges.

When we’re making a large purchase and the store offers 10% off if we apply for a store credit card, we apply. We pay off the charge and throw the store credit card in the back of a filing cabinet (because that’s quicker than cutting it up).

Actually I have a Kohls charge for just the reason you state. I purchase my items on my charge card and then IMMEDIATELY pay for the purchases at the same register before I leave. It’s just like paying cash that way.

We have no cards outside of Discover and Credit Union Visa.

I do not like to worry about separate bills and additional organizations having my personal financial information which can get hacked. I usually pay cash at Marshalls as they were hacked.

Only Costco AmEx and Credit Union Visa for us.
The credit union Visa has a great travel rewards program.

I have Kohl’s for the charge card sales - the ones they send you in the mail that could be 15, 20, or 30%. I get a couple of 30% coupons each year and always drop by just to see what I can find for fun. If I need something, I go in with the 20% coupon. I throw away the 15%! I set up online so I can pay directly from the checking account.

I do have a couple of old department store charge cards (Carson Pirie Scott, maybe Lord & Taylor?) but never use them because we use our HHonors Am Ex most of the time - we travel enough to really take advantage of the points rewards at hotels.

Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks. The latter two rarely get used - I’ve had them since the early 80’s when I lived in NYC. I do use the Macy’s one a lot - they send 20% off coupons all the time, and the store is very close to my house. Their clothing selection is awful, but I use the coupons for underwear, handbags, tights, etc.

Re: Macy’s … and crystal!

I have a Kohls and a Best Buy. I very rarely use the Kohls but when I do I pay it off at the time of purchase. The Best Buy card I only use when I am buying something that takes advantage of their no interest financing.

We use kohls charge all the time, paying it off before we leave the store. I LOVE kohls and rarely shop anywhere else unless I’ve tried kohls and can’t find what I want, so the sales there that you get with the card are well worth it for me.

How do you pay it off at the time of purchase? At the sales counter?

Yes! I bought a gorgeous set of Mikasa wine glasses there a few years ago for a song.

I have Kohl’s, Target, and American Eagle because of extra discounts and perks offered on each of them. (I pay all my credit purchases off each month online.)

MACYS!

You can find the best deals there plus the 20% of whaaaaaat 8)

After you charge the items…you tell the cashier you want to pay the bill. She brings up your charge account…you write her a check or give her cash (or use a debit card…you cannot use another credit card)…and she accepts your payment right there and give you a receipt.

I NEVER leave Kohls without paying for the items I’ve purchased.

The only department store card I own is Macy’s. I live about 10 minutes from the nearest store and shop there fairly often.

Macy’s!! The other day I spent $90, and original price tickets would have been $300. The coupons are the only way to go. I never pay full price. Sometimes you can’t find anything at all and sometimes it’s fine.

When DH and I were newlyweds with zero credit history, we had a hard time getting any credit cards. Then The Bon sent me their credit card with a whopping $600 credit limit - that’s how our credit hitory started. That was (and still is) our only department store credit card. Of course, there are no longer any Bon Marche stores around - Macy’s bought the chain. We also have a HD card - if we charge more than $500 worth of home improvement stuff, we automatically get a 12-month zero percent payment plan, which, once in a while, came in handy. Other than that, we carry our Amex/Costco, a local credit union Visa and a MasterCard.

Kohls!
It is my ‘go to’ store for everything for all family members…even the two young adults in the family like the clothing selection.
I collect the 20 and 30% off coupon in my wallet. Try real hard not to let them lure me into the store for recreational shopping but they’re there when I do stop in. NEVER pay full price.

They have recently allowed usage of the “$10 off” cashback thingys online as well as in store. Coupled with a 20 or 30% off coupon code, you can find some excellent buys.
I just pay the balance online through my bank website when I get home or when the bill comes. Never pay interest.

None…we only have a credit union visa.
