It’s Friday evening. Time to relax for many of us. Time to reflect on what we accomplished this week. Especially things that have bee nagging at us, because it feels so good when we address it.
And what is still on your list nagging at the back of your mind?
H and I finally booked our summer vacation. Going out west to see some of our great USA national parks. I have been pushing my H for weeks or months for us to nail down and reserve some plans. Check
Need to make a dentist appt. My last one was cancelled 2 years ago and I have yet to reschedule.
After hosting a family of four from Sweden for ten days, I finally got to take our own daughter on her last visit to a college she got accepted to without visiting . I held down the fort while my husband took a spontaneous business trip and spent a night with my daughter at a high school play that she wasn’t performing in when I would have loved to watch a chick flick …but it occurred to me that she has two months left of school and these opportunities will be coming to an end
Got some yard work done! It felt good but now I’m sore as heck. Bought a new bird feeder and filled it with gourmet trail mix for birds but the birds still eat my grass seeds. Yeah, I need a dentist appointment too, it has been months. And the last of the pollen needs to be hosed off the backporch and patio set.
Have fun on your vacation. I have always wanted to see the Grand Canon and Yellow Stone National Park, isn’t Yellow Stone suppose to be some kind of underground super volcano? It would be nice to see the red woods too.
Did my tax extension.
Did D2 tax, very simple but still.
Opened a SEP IRA for D1.
Booked housing for D2 summer internship.
Called loan people regarding my sisters new house, oh boy I hope it goes through this week . They seem prepared, so that was a good relief.
Emptied one compost bin and sieved with other fertilizers. New yard, need to build up soil. Replanted several blueberry plants and fertilized all tomato plants.
Went swimming.
Husband finished one corner of the yard, ready to install the water fountain.
Nagging to do:
Need to call husbands dentist for some more extensive work before he retires.
Clean up all the papers from tax mess.
Do tax.
Husband needs to build a planter for my grapefruit, it needs to be controlled and not growing too big.
Pay IEEE annual membership.
I need a vacation because we cancelled our Italy trip after the Germany plan crash, possible going to Northern cal with kid #2 when she has to drive up to her summer internship.
Done:
got well from being sick last weekend
cut back the ferns
paid bills
cross-checked the master calendar
pruned enough to fill 2 yard waste toters to roll out so they would be emptied on bin day yesterday
got the kid to finish his 2 undone things that were clogging up my mind (service hours form for graduation and one more scholarship essay)
To do:
mow lawn front and back
refill yard waste bins with spring pruning
the usual weekend household catch up
need to make plans for both kids’ wisdom teeth this summer - I always remember this on Friday and the dentist doesn’t work Friday
restart my self-care program
I was all gung-ho about some PT I’ve been doing, but just lost steam on Tuesday when I found out the husband of a good friend died. And I found out just a couple of hours before H and were supposed to head downtown to a Neil Diamond concert. I can’t get back on track. I know many, many of you here have lost friends, etc., but this is the first time I’ve had a friend lose a husband. This is new territory for me, and it really hit hard. Funeral is tomorrow, and I think I’m going to give myself a break tomorrow, but Sunday kick myself back in gear for the PT, so when I go to my appointment on Tuesday, I won’t have to report I completely blew off the whole week.
That being said, I did still manage two work outs, some long-overdue paperwork and a couple of naps (I can’t do those late nights anymore like I used to). Made reservations at two places of accommodations for our summer vacation. Did my usual volunteer stint Thursday morning. Started a new TV series with H (Weeds). Took pooch to the vet for first of two doggy flu vaccines as there is an epidemic in the Chicago area (this is a different vaccine than the bordatella). Ordered some new shoes with more arch support that PT said would help with my back/hip issues (I know shopping sounds like fun, but I must have spent at least four hours online looking for something that met my criteria of looking halfway stylish).
Still hanging out there - oil change for my car, more paperwork, and absolutely MUST be brushing the dog’s coat this time of year as he’s shedding horrendously! Need to follow up with our handy man about a back-up sump pump after all the rain we had this week. Also need to make airline reservations and one more set of accommodation reservations for summer trip. Oh, and car rental. Ah, geez, thanks for reminding me to think of all the stuff I still need to do!
But this coming week will be the year anniversary of my cancer diagnosis also, and subsequent surgery and complications, so although it seems like there’s a lot to do, I’m just grateful I’m in a place this year to be doing stuff and not planning surgery!
Did you know that you can take your current shoes to a shoe repair shop and they can add arch support to your existing shoes?
I’ve been cleaning the house to get ready for a visit from S2 and his new girlfriend. But I forgot to call the dentist back, to tell him S2 would take the cancellation he had on Monday: (
Do you notice how most of our “nagging” things involve a dentist?
A lot accomplished this week - we made the decision to move forward buying a new house and have the wheels in motion for the mortgage, etc.
At work we’re going through a few changes and I have “my” side of the business ready to go - training has started to begin the transition to icd-10 and the ones I worried about getting it seem to be doing fine so far. We’re a beta testing site and start in a week. I’ve got everything squared away and organized to increase business dramatically over the next few months.
Booked kids way home from college - cars, planes and shuttles
We’re “summerizing” - opening pool, putting out furniture, getting the boat on the lift
Nagging - I need new sandals, I’m acting like it’s the worlds biggest decision and I need to just pick already. I think I maxed out how many decisions I could make in one week
Got done:
Cleaned out my closet (church rummage sale is next week).
Went to the car wash
Gave the dog a bath
Got to yoga 3 times and took two long walks
Various stuff at work
Need to do:
Clean out some stuff in basement
Wash slipcover on couch
Help H with mulch
Keep up the yoga and walking
Various stuff at work
Done:
Went to the wake of a co-worker’s father.
Learned that a friend broke her hip. Made a meal for her and her husband to enjoy and dropped it off. Chatted on the phone with her. Sent DH over to visit.
Coped with what I hope was only a 24-hour bug.
Packed to go visit my sister. Packing included wrapping a lamp in gobs and gobs of bubble wrap, plus certain sterling silver pieces that were our grandmother’s that I’m giving to her.
Dropped off a suit at Goodwill.
Made appointment for routine visit to gyn. Coped with their stupid inefficient on-line medical history that I have to update for them every year.
Browsed HomeGoods with DH and bought a few items we just had to have. :-S
Spent about 10 hours on a new project I’ve volunteered for. Not sure if this is going to be a long-term good experience or not; we’ll see.
Got the deck powerwashed. It had mold on it because someone didn’t blow the leaves off last fall in a timely manner.
Worked out three times. Walked two miles on other days. Took dogs to the woods for ~two miles three days.
Loaded my Kindle with three books to read during my trip to see sister.
To do:
Email nephew who is planning 50th anniversary party for my sister and BIL. He needs some background info for the poem he and other nephew are composing.
Get on plane and visit sister.
I hope my life isn’t terribly boring. When I look at this list, I’m not sure it’s all that exciting!!
Done:
Sent in all paperwork for mortgage refi
Got D2’s iphone to work (for now)
Got mom on my AmEx card so she will have medical evacuation coverage when we go on our family vacation
Took the car to get it washed now snow is finally gone
Cleaned my apartment
Finished laundry
Booked hotel for nephew’s wedding
Helped D2 finalize her summer internship
To do:
Grocery shopping (have been thinking about it since Tue)
Buy airline ticket to Granada to visit friends
To get funding for my project at work (nag at my boss)
My list really has gotten a lot shorter in the last few years, especially this last year since my divorce. I realized my list was a lot longer because of my ex. Now it is all about me.
accomplished: flew from Prague to LA on Tuesday night and went back to the office on Wednesday morning
nagging me: still waking up at 4AM ready for dinner.
Yea, I’m mostly looking at flip flops and sandals kinds of shoes, which are difficult to do that with. All the very casual flip flops I have around are more like Sanuks, and they just don’t have any support.
Done:
Visited boysx3
walked 7 miles through DC
3 sessions at cardiac rehab
got a root canal
started unpacking baggage from trip to my dad’s in GA
did spreadsheet and shopping for large party I am catering at our synagogue next weekend
paid bills
Need to do:
get charity quilt tops ready for backing and quilting
finish Raggedy Ann/Andy for charity event MONDAY!
start cleaning yard of branches and leaves
lose weight! I am creeping up and I’m getting panicky
get rid of more junk
take books and clothes to donate
laundry
book doggie spa for trip to S2’s graduation
got through a major audit at work (it only happens once every 2 years)
got a stitch out of my arm where I’d had a skin biopsy (no cancer yay!)
got my D’s birthday present organized to mail to her (but didn’t actually mail it)
got S to his ACT test this morning on time and with all tools he needed
got a cat sitter lined up for when we are gone to D’s graduation in May
nagging:
need to mail D’s box on Monday (her birthday is Thursday, priority mail should get it there OK)
need to figure out if H is driving to VA with D after graduation or if he is driving home with me. If he is going to VA with D then I need to buy him a plane ticket to fly home.
have a pile of magazines that I am tired of looking at. I should read them instead of being on here.
