I ditto this I have really enjoyed all this time with my kids, particularly my S, who is riding it out at home.
I was happy when my kids were both with us and chattering happily with one another late into the night/early morning. My D said they were closer than they had been. It was nice they got along so very well.
Our house is also cleaner and better organized than it has been in decades, thanks to tireless efforts by S. They both took urns cooking us many meals and did most of our grocery shopping.
We’re bingeing on Poldark, watching the convention, and FT-ing with son. Probably the same tonight and tomorrow night. Hard to distinguish one day from the next.
It’s not evening yet, but we’re on our balcony overlooking our back yard during this perfect weather day today.
What’s really strange is our lilac bush has a “dead” section in the middle. I’m not sure why it “died,” but it’s an older bush so haven’t thought much about it. Today it has 10 separate blooms in part of the “dead” section. I’ve never seen that happen before, not in my 23 years here nor with any lilacs we had growing up. The bush bloomed normally in the spring. Now I’m guessing part of it didn’t really die and that part thinks it’s spring?
Getting a whiff or two of it when the breeze blows this way is extraordinarily special. I love the scent. Butterflies love it too. I wonder if they even know what flower it is being so out of season.
Last night, I played pick-up soccer with my usual crew. Time was split roughly evenly between playing a regular 4v4 game and our socially distant game (it is really a 4v2 passing drill with goals). Roughly every 10 minutes we rotated people from between games (we had a big crew last night).
Followed it up with a visit to our local beer garden where I had a couple of beers with the soccer crew. Seating is outside and at 50% capacity.,
Tonight is the finance committee of our local soccer club and then finishing the next draft of a job application. The application is a pain because while there are no essays as is typical for these jobs instead all of the relevant information needs to be on the resume.
Last night, I was frantically looking for affordable yet stylish desk for my D’s new apartment room. We knew the room came with a bed and a dresser and we both wrongly assumed it also came with a desk and a chair.
Surprisingly, many affordable desks are all out of stock from major online stores. I guess they got all sold out because of WFH and kids starting remote learning at home!!
Feeling like Jake from
State Farm…uh, ate dinner, watched TV, read.
A lot of you lead way more active and interesting lives than I do even in normal times! You rock.
Wait - @jmnva06, haven’t you been at the same workplace forever?
DH and I have developed a tradition of forgetting our wedding anniversary - this time I remembered and he forgot. We had tacos for dinner and shared a bottle of bubbly with DD out back when it was finally cool enough to be outdoors, chatting into the night. It was a sweet anniversary - 35, but who’s counting?
What are you wearing, @VaBluebird ?
I’m spending my evenings all week watching the Democratic convention, following Pod Save America’s live thread. I am a news nerd, and these two weeks are my Olympics. At least because there aren’t real Olympics this summer.
Last night I fell into bed early after our 10hr road trip back and forth to drop son at school. Just hoping we don’t end up going back in two weeks to move him back out. ?
Today was a boring day that started off rainy so I did some cleaning then finally finished reading John Boyne’s recently released latest novel while my husband played golf with a former work associate. He got carryout from a favorite place on the way home to appease S21 who found out this afternoon that his high school has reversed course on its hybrid reopening and will start online. Apparently people in the “school community” have recently tested positive which raised concerns so they are delaying the restart. He hasn’t seen any of his school friends since March 13th and with this being his senior year, he’s really bummed. To make matters worse, his younger sister, who attends a different h.s. found out this morning that her school was approved for reopening (hybrid also). So she gets to go back, but he doesn’t.
Now I’m surfing the internet and trying to decide which of my books to read next.
Yes–I have been at the same agency for 29 years and don’t plan on leaving…
I’m applying to be in charge of the the group I currently work in. Since the position is open to internal and external candidates, the process is an application rather than the typical promotion paperwork
I met my handyman in my office to bring home my loveseat, the last piece of my belongings there. We were putting on the legs and realized forgot one. When the pouring rain let up, I put my puppy in her seat, and returned to the office to retrieve the leg. (Just picturing someone moving it, losing the nail or other part.). As we turned into my street, puppy threw up.
Then my city bookclub on-line. It’s not the same as meeting in person. The nice part is that, in lieu of the annual luncheon for volunteers, they made t-shirts for us. My friend and I have been running this group since 2007.
I fell asleep during convention
A local restaurant owner didn’t feel comfortable opening to inside dining, so she decided to add a large deck to the back of the place for outside dining. DH did the structural design for it. So last night, we took our oldest son to eat dinner there. DH did say, “Hmm, I guess they decided they didn’t need the diagonal bracing…” Ha! The food was good and I hope she makes it. She wasn’t able to open until August 12, which means the end of the summer in Maine. It’s already cooling off.
Pretty typical night. Facetime with D’19. Call from D’17. Walk on the dirt road. Pick tomatoes. Sit on the patio with the cats and play games on my phone
Talked to my wife about having another kid…then we both laughed hysterically.
Brought a cake over to my friend who just had a bilateral mastectomy . . . and whose mother just died . . . and whose son is recovering from lymphoma treatment. It’s been a rough patch for them, to say the least. We stood outside and chatted for half an hour or so.
I’m boring. Worked on a quilt and talked to my older sister on the phone for awhile.
