What did you get for Mothers Day?

So, with Mother’s day upon us, how many have received their gifts?? My kids are funny. Told younger s I bought myself a little juicer, and today arrives a box full of supplements for the smoothies (acai powder, green superfood, gogi berries, maca powder – anyone ever used this stuff??). Older s and his fiancee’ (oh that sounds so funny to say-- still getting used to it!) sent a box of wonderful smelling votive candles, and the set has the name (happenstance) of the company DS works for, hence the decision to send them. DH and I went shopping today to pick out some new perfume. Gee, surprise! My gift  Heck, the fact that he went shopping was a gift in and of itself (though he bought new running clothes, shoes and socks, as well as a new computer bag, so he won’t shop again 'til the next millenium).

So ladies, (and yes that term is OK as far as I can tell) what did you get from your kids, spouses, significant others, parents, etc? Husbands/spouses/partners, what are you planning to get or have gotten?

On another vein, any ideas for fathers day gifts? DH just bought himself everything he needs. Maybe I can steal one and wrap it!

My present…having BOTH of my kids where I am on Mother’s Day!

I got two beautiful hanging plants for our deck, and a potted miniature rose plant.

Nothing yet, but ds2 comes him from first year of college today so that’ll be the best gift ever.

A box of Ethel M chocolates, the ones with liquors inside from D1. D2’s present has not arrived yet, she says it is ordered but will be late. No telling what it will be!

I got a Weber grill!

Since I’ll be driving D2 a distance tomorrow night, we decided she’d cook an early dinner for us. My big gift is she’s graduating from college in two weeks. Dear #1 is in a foreign country, got confused on their MD versus ours and sent a gift 6 weeks ago. Sweet surprise.

So far, I’ve gotten cards from both sons. They were both very nice. S1, who usually only sends funny cards, sent a serious one, and added “I love you” in his own handwriting. S2 sent a cute card, but, with him, I’m just happy that he sent one at all and that it got here in time.

I’ll find out what DH got me tomorrow. I won’t be getting any gifts from my kids, which is OK with me, but I hold DH responsible for that. He always picked out and bought cards and gifts that were supposedly from my kids from the time they were little until they were in college, so I think they’ve just gotten used to the fact that Dad will take care of things. I’m never even sure that he doesn’t remind S2 to send a card now.

Was that a boomerang gift, BB?

My kids b’days always fall at mothers/fathers day, so sometimes the holiday gets lost in the shuffle.

Nothing. As usual. Sometimes S send me something, sometimes he doesn’t. H normally waits until about 6PM that Sunday and asks me if I would like to go out to dinner. #-o

^^^Boo, Consolation! We went to Fenway Park last weekend and saw the Sox play the oakland As. Lester pitched the game of his life - he was incredible. I got to see a grand slam in the first inning and a guy propose to his girlfriend on the jumbotron. And we had GREAT seats. DH drove both ways so I got lots of knitting done. It was a wonderful day. I’m still smiling.

Woo hoo… a new bed! I spent the morning dredging up old mattress threads from CC and went shopping very well-informed. The salesperson asked a couple of times if it was going to be a Mother’s Day present, and I told her yes, that 27 years ago on my first Mother’s Day, H told me I wasn’t his mother, so this purchase today was meant to make up for that faux pas so many years ago!

TBH - I’m not a big Hallmark holiday person - I don’t expect stuff so when it does come, it’s a nice surprise.

I got a new outfit to wear to my son’s graduations.

^^ditto. I don’t mind not getting a gift, but a card sure would be nice (my husband doesn’t like to buy card and I think it has rubbed off on them - I however like to receive them!!). One kid lives across country so I won’t see him but he’ll call. Other one just called and thinks she and her husband are going to see his Mom and Grandma tomorrow so we made plans for Monday. Was kind of hoping I’d get to see her on the actual day this year as we had to be out of town last year (Medical reasons - M D Anderson in Houston which is several hundred miles from home - not by choice) and I think also the year before (still in treatment the year before, check up last year). Kind of sad, but our fav basketball team is playing tomorrow afternoon and I do want to watch the game, so it’s all good.

WHich one did you get @BunsenBurner? I am getting one.

Bunsen has a whole thread describing the grill choice.,

What I want to know…which mattress did teriwtt get?

DH asked me what I wanted this year. I told him it would be great if he and our two sons helped me do some raking and mulching in the front yard! My younger son is also going to make dinner tomorrow.

We went with the Sleep Number bed, with the Dual Temp layer, and the FlexFit adjustable base which allows you to raise the head and feet of the bed. I can’t wait for two weeks when it arrives! H was ready for a basic model, but even he caved once he tried the zero gravity feature of this bed; he said he noticed a difference in his comfort level when the feet are raised about 4". I think this is going to be a dual Mother’s Day/Father’s Day present!

The new SImpson’s Lego House! At least my kids have come to terms with the fact that their mom has never really grown up.

I like those adjustable beds. I picked one out for my cousin’s husband, going thru chemo. When you have to spend a lot of time in bed, the adjustable feature is a necessity. for me, it would be a luxury. I hope you enjoy it.

At our house, Mother’s Day is not a big gift-giving day. We are taking MIL out to eat, so I get to eat out too. No kids will be around, I will most likely speak to them on the phone, although I just talked to S last night, so that may have been it for him!
