What did you get for Mothers Day?

bookworm - yes, I had a hysterectomy eleven days ago and spent a night in the hospital. After using the adjustable hospital bed for a day, after I came home and had to try to get in and out of my bed, I almost wanted to go back to the hospital. I’m guessing by the time it arrives in two weeks I won’t be as sore, and getting in and out of bed won’t be such an ordeal, but I’m looking forward to it anyway!

It’s not a gift day for us, although I treated myself to a new running dress! Daughter put up on facebook a neat picture of me with her at her rehearsal dinner in 2008. I will get a call from my son. Daughter and son in law are coming over for dinner tomorrow night and we will grill. I don’t cook, so she and H will do the food.

I got a card in the mail today from DS, who is a college sophomore–so sweet! And we’ll Skype with him tomorrow. My husband will probably give me a card, as will my 15 yo daughter. The only thing I really want for Mother’s Day is not to have to cook, so DH will probably make me breakfast and then we’ll probably have takeout for dinner. I’m not much for going out to eat on Mother’s Day–it just seems like a big hassle and not very relaxing!

I’m not into Mother’s day as a card and gift thing . . . I just want people to get sh** done w/o being asked twice and maybe not have to figure out what’s for dinner. My big thing this year is it’s our first Mother’s Day since my MIL passed away and she was REALLY into flower baskets and giant cards and stuff. My DH did not have a good relationship with her (very very good reason) so it was always hard to have much expected.

My Dh surprised me with a beautiful bouquet yesterday evening when he came home. Sunday we’re taking the elderly moms to brunch. Our generation usually just exchanges cards, or nothing, but we always try to get together.
Son sent me something in the mail which is sitting on the kitchen table for now, and Dd said she is bringing me something tomorrow. (?)

The best and worst Mother’s Day was the year my son drove several hundred miles to surprise me, but had a car accident on the way. No serious injury, but quite a scare. Car needed several thousands in repair, so son was able to see first hand the value of good auto insurance. He surprised me all right! :(

@MomofWildChild‌, " a new running dress" …really? You run in a dress?

teriwtt, you’ll have the frame for life, and can change the mattress as you please.

I dropped a hint to son that his last gifts were excessive, just a note would be fine. However, he is off with his g/f for the weekend, at Muir Woods (whatever that park is called), so I doubt I am on his mind.

I invited my close g/f out, as she lost her mom this year. I think it will be tough on her. For more years than I can count, I use to join this friend & her mom for MO’s Day. I bought her mom gifts for past dozen years. It feels strange to have no one to send a card to or buy some chocolates for.

Was it from athleta?? I love their dresses…even though I do NOT run!

I run in dresses, too. :)

So far, nothing, except a Happy Mother’s Day wish from one of my daughter’s boyfriends, LOL. I don’t really care. None of my kids are here. If they were here, I would make them go for a walk or to a movie with me. I bought tulips for my mom-in-law. I felt sad that I have no other grandmas, mothers to buy anything for anymore. I don’t like that part of getting older, that’s for sure-- losing the older generation.

My present was the ear-to-ear grin on S’s face today when he graduated!

This year MDay coincides with my birthday. Will see S-1 act in opening night of a new play “Jane the Plain” by Flux Theatre Ensemble at the Fourth Street Theater in Manhattan. His role was written especially for him and 5 other Core Actors (Equity) by their resident playwright August Schulenberg who knows them inside-out. Will beam in the audience alongside DIL, her parents, my spouse. Excited for this excellent troupe.

S-2 flew in from California with his girlfriend especially for this weekend. Sunday morning we’ll all meet in Central Park or walk the High Line, grabbing a light a bite out somewhere before the play. Halaal stand, anyone? Daughter’s close by, too, and joining all the fun although she’s wrapping up final exams.

In recent years with everyone scattered, we did phone calls. This year I feel extraordinarily blessed to have all 3 in person at once. Best part: they planned it, not me. It’s all them.

And I’ll phone my Mom longdistance in her nursing home. She’ll be completely present and loving in-the-moment, then forget the call happened 10 minutes later. Another reason to savor each day while we have it.

For Mother’s Day / H birthday weekend, we went to an acoustic concert which was a benefit for Oso last night( with dinner). Today I had a memoir writing workshop & afterwards I found myself a dress at a neighborhood boutique! &earrings.
( I think I will wear this dress for the picnic reception in June. Its both comfortable & flattering)
Tomorrow we are going to sleep in and not get up when we wake up.
My youngest was planning on coming home if she got a ride, but it sounds like that didn’t happen. However we will be going to her campus for parents weekend & to do a little moving next week.
(She graduates mid June)

See www.nuu-Muu.com. Awesome running dresses. Cute and comfortable- you can wear a shirt or jacket over them if it’s cool and capris, track briefs or tights underneath.

DH and I got up at 4am to get DD to the airport… so she can meet DS for travel in Taiwan. I’ll miss them and wouldn’t have minded a “Happy Mother’s Day” comment in the car. Oh well. In general my kids have are independent and kind-hearted adults, and for that I am thankful every day.

My gift is all three kids home this weekend (even my son who lives far away and is usually travelling for work). DH is away on business :frowning: but left me flowers and a card and a promise to pick up something cool on his trip. DS is now a gourmet cook - THAT’s a change! - and has promised a Brunch To Remember, D2 just arrived with hand-crafted goodies and a card that alleges it would grow flowers if I planted it, and D3 will be here tomorrow after her performance. Life is good.

I received a card from S yesterday. He designed it and it reflects his sense of humor to a T. DH came home from a business trip with box from my favorite out of town bakery. I am instructed not to peek at my tiramisu cake - oops!

I’m in the same club with Consolation. I gave up on expecting a Mothers Day that warmed my heart years ago. I’ll probably get a perfunctory card from DH and maybe a bag of Doves. A text from D if she remembers.

I got a nice card from D1. She is my organized child and it arrived with several days to spare.
My other D bought a gift but hadn’t mailed it. I gave her permission to give it to me when we see her at the end of the month. She called today to tell me I won’t get her card before Mother’s Day but she did write it already and put a stamp on it. She seemed to think she deserved praise for accomplishing that.
I haven’t heard from S but since he is dog sitting for me starting tomorrow when H and I go to Hawaii I will cut him some slack. Plus Mother’s Day isn’t till tomorrow.
My MIL sent me a nice email.
I don’t get a gift from H. He will call his Mom and sent a card. I will call her as well. My own Mom has been gone almost 10 years. I still miss her.

A pretty bouquet of roses appeared on my table while H and I were out-I suspect my S, who is in town this weekend. Tomorrow the family has a secret destination restaurant in mind followed by “someplace with a lot of walking”. My older D has to work but she and I both have Mondays off so we’ll get together then.
I’ve never seen running dresses-don’t they get in the way? I don’t run but I can’t see wearing one for say, my exercise dance class. Are they for modesty? Kind of cute though.
