We had a nice dinner on our deck with daughter and son in law. Grilled steaks, good wine and ice cream with strawberries and lemon olive oil. Good stuff! Son (lives far away) and his girlfriend called me after their 100 mile bike ride! All is well in the WildChild family.

Three sons, one DIL, one girlfriend for dinner, wine, flowers and filet mignon.

To my surprise, the prodigal child called early and chatted long. Happy and healthy. I can’t ask for more. DH and local kid did a wonderful grilled meal and fun. Last kid texted in and out. All in all a wonderful day.

H & I didn’t sleep in, but he took the dog to the park so I could run to the grocery, and then we walked to the movie theatre to see * The Lunchbox*
Good movie but afterwards I was so hungry. Tomorrow I am going to get some stuffed naan & maybe Rogan Josh.
Youngest called me and we made plans for next weekend. ( both H & I will get gifts then)
Not a peep out of oldest.

H made me breakfast as always, washed the dishes and clothes. The kids each called from their respective places in Los Angeles and Arlington, VA. Hearing them happy and healthy was the best gift. Last night, we went out for dinner with my folks. It was very nice!

MOWC, icecream with olive oil? hmmm…

It sounds awful, but it is fabulous- you need the flavored, gourmet olive oils. I first had it at a legal seminar inNapa where they had (besides wine tasting) an olive oil tasting.

Great day! Phone calls from my kids, who are both far from MA–one in San Francisco and another in Chapel Hill, NC and a text from my stepdaughter. Kids say present is in the mail. LOL

Best present: H made dinner (bone-in ribeye with caramelized onions, grilled asparagus, and a baked potato) and–even better because he actually cooks for me fairly often–he cleaned the kitchen and the grill!!

The best present for me was that my D who lives in London surprised me and arrived with her 4 sisters, all with significant others, and the grandchildren, and of course, my mom. I knew that she had to go to NY this week but she detoured here for a few days. For gifts to open, I got a charm for my Pandora bracelet from my grandchildren, some new patio dishes and bowls, two books, flowers, an edible arrangement, and from my H, theatre tickets to two shows I want to see this summer on a weekend getaway. They collaborated to prepare the meal and insisted i sit and relax (difficult for me) then afterwards, the two Ds who always helped me clean up when they were young, helped me clean up because I said I wasn’t sitting idly by any longer. It was nice, easy chatting while watching all the others enjoying each other’s company. To top it off, the weather was beautiful. It was a great day.

That sound fabulous.
I miss my mom.

I got a college diploma for Mother’s Day: my S2 graduated yesterday!! Best Gift Ever. #nomoretuition

My mother died in 2000. My dear MIL died this past December, and tomorrow would have been her birthday. I thought Mother’s Day would be really difficult this year. But Saturday night we attended a candlelight ceremony at S2’s college. And in the magic of the candlelight, splattered by occasional raindrops, I felt the presence of my mother and MIL on a gentle breeze, and I heard them whisper, “Well done.”

I had made the hint and received a college sweatshirt, and it was even one beautifully embroidered. My oldest goes off to college next fall there, and to me this shirt is everything that our family has been about the last few years. I was a little sad because I knew we wouldn’t be spending another Mother’s Day together for a long time (he will be far from home) but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

The morning was amazing because the kids made me breakfast and we all went to church together. My favorite priest was there and he sang us a lovely song from his native country as part of his blessing. The afternoon was a lot harder because of the in-laws, but I am trying to blur that out and focus on the positive.

17-year-old son proudly treated the immediate family and Grandma to brunch. I think he felt very grown-up busting out his debit card at a nice restaurant. He also gave me flowers, which was sweet, but an odd choice since I work for a florist. 14-year-old son gave me a flower, too, but it was provided by the youth group at church to give to the moms (at least it was a sunflower; on Saturday, I processed 900 carnations for two different local churches to give out, and I hate carnations). Afterwards, DS2 went to a movie with me and his grandma while DS1 studied for AP tests. Later, DH picked up take-out for dinner and walked the dogs while I relaxed, and also gave me a gift certificate to get my hair done. All in all, it was a lovely and relaxing day.

I got a Jackery–a cool battery that will re-charge your IPhone up to three times (charges IPads, kindles etc–got ports for most devices) before it needs charging itself. My H got one and I wanted it too! Super for travel–lightweight enough to carry on regular basis.
Had son and GF for dinner so was very happy.
