What did you get for Mothers Day?

White gold necklace with my birthstone from my son and self made card from my D16. And roses from my husband.

My youngest sent flowers, the older two sent texts and called, and - this one was unexpected - my future son-in-law texted to wish me a happy Mother’s Day. I noticed that the text also went to my daughter, so perhaps he was trying to impress her (or, more likely, show her that he remembered to do it). In any case, it was very nice!

We’ve never done gifts, other than flowers, on Mother’s Day. When our kids were little, what I deeply, deeply wanted (and usually got) was several hours to myself while Dad took the girls out for lunch or to the playground or a movie. Remember when you’d have traded something really dear to you just for an afternoon alone? I do.

Bouquet of white roses from H, text from my daughter who is away at boarding school (along with prom pics!) and will go out his evening with sons and H to my favorite Thai restaurant.

Both my kids put neat pictures of me (with each one of them) up on facebook. What more could I want? Seriously- that seems to be the new greeting card, which is fine with me!

D1 (on the other coast) posted on Facebook a photo of her with her sibs thanking me for making them.
S brought me flowers when he picked me up to take me to D2’s place where they made brunch for me and my MIL.
A couple of weeks ago D1 sent a (she said Mother’s Day) gift - one of those portable spare charger units - after I was borrowing hers so often on a recent visit.
D2 and S also made reference to Mother’s Day back in March when they bought tickets to take me to see Billy Joel this summer.

Oh, how could I forget? My daughter also gave me an RIT Mom mug, from the college she will attend next year, Rochester Institute of Technology!

I feel like the FB trend really accelerated this year. Both moms posting pictures of their kids, and kids posting pictures of their moms – I just see a lot more than usual among my friends and their kids today. :)

I took my husband out for lunch (I handle the family finances, and I knew he wouldn’t have enough in his allowance to pay, since I was away and didn’t get to the bank on Friday for his weekly spending money).

My daughter left me a case of hard cider when I was up cat/mouse sitting for her last week. Staying at her lakeside cottage in the Adirondacks was wonderful in itself.

About the FB trend of posting photos: Two years ago my three kids were in three different cities but colluded on a FB “card” that consisted of 6 photos in which they were holding up signs that each had a single word on them. It added up to Happy Mother’s Day We Love You! Best gift ever! This year was great too as I got a message from the one who is far away, and had brunch with the other two, one of whom flew in for the occasion to surprise me with a 24 hour visit. Plus flowers, a scarf, two cards and a gift certificate. I am quite overwhelmed as often there was nothing at all in the past. I guess they are growing up and becoming more thoughtful.

I got nothing (so far) unless my brother throwing out a “happy mother’s day” when I called him counts.

S1 sent a gift and called after UChicago Scav ended today. S2 said "Happy Mother’s Day. " DH hasn’t said anything.

S2 and DH are currently sleeping. S2 still has work for two classes to complete and turn in. I am doing laundry. The grass is two feet high, but I am NOT going out to cut it.

Bunsenburner - My kids sent a video “Happy Mother’s Day” message too! I was not sure they’d even remember from taiwan. (They said they taped it after midnight, but still ok since morning for me. DD looked a bit jet lagged, but I loved the thought).

DH spoiled me with breakfast in bed and flower. Methinks he didn’t expect the kids to remember either.

I got two calls from my younger son, who is far away, and my older son visited me! (Truth: He was nearby for the wedding of his BF, and came home for the rest of the weekend.)

I also got a Happy Mother’s Day from the mother of S2’s long-time GF. We’re hoping that one stays around for a while. Like, 50 or so years.

My son just called to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. He told me that he has been able to resell books that were left in the rooms during his spring salvage job; thereby, paying for all his food so far with the money from the resold books. A resourceful child is a great gift! :)

S called me, I called my mother, H said nothing and has been grouchy all day.

Ugh. Watching 60 Minutes and I saw a commercial about posting Mother’s Day photos from Facebook.

Had a very nice Mother’s Day brunch with H, sons 2 and 3, and son 2’s girlfriend. After brunch we took a long walk through Meridian Park, and then stopped at GF’s apartment (the first time she has ever invited us to do so). Then we went for gelato at a little cafe nearby.

Son 1 and his wife sent some pictures of them and baby grandson at the park today, and then we skyped this afternoon so we could see our grandson walking-- his newest skill!

H took our geriatric 4 legged child for some nice walks today–usually my job. And H actually put away his laundry.

Perfect day.

Talked to one who can’t visit; one helped plant my vegetable garden and picked up my mom for dinner (and gave me flowers and a card) and third hasn’t arrived yet. Husband helped plant and is taking us all to dinner. Lovely.

Although they both live 1000 miles away in different directions, they managed to collaborate on the best Mothers Day gift ever , a Shutterfly book of photos through the years. with wonderful, heart felt captions. I love them so much!

DH gave me flowers and a card. The card was perfect and funny. S2 remembered to say “Happy Mother’s Day” about 3/4s of the way through our normal weekly call. Still waiting for S1! Dh and I had a very nice afternoon at the Botanical Garden.
