I have never sent flowers from Costco online and decided to try it this week. My dad passed asway 16 months ago and since his birthday would have been this week I sent my mom flowers. Mom called and said that the flowers were lovely! I don’t have a picture of them since my mom is not good with taking pictures on her phone. I’ll ask my SIL if she can take a picture and send it to me. The Costco flowers cost me $59 delivered with a vase. So much less expensive than from most places.
I bought sight unseen mixed greens garlands from Costco to use as centerpieces running down the middle of the long farm table at little kid’s wedding. They were excellent quality! Very fresh. Doctored them with some flowers and fairy lights, and the table looked great!
I went on a private tour of Japanese Galleries at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Tour guide was a retired professor of art history–she offered the tour at a charity auction. I was one of the lucky bidders. I knew very little about Japanese art and spending a few hours on the tour was the highlight of my week.
Many gyms do and you can join them all at the same time. I have ‘memberships’ (not really, just access) to the Y, the Denver rec center and the Englewood rec center (that one cost me $3 for 3 years). It is called silver sneakers, active renew or fit and something depending on the medicare advantage plan you have.
I also get a cash bonus for registering my work outs per month if I do at least 10 (you don’t have to do them at the gym, you can walk or play tennis or whatever.
Or lie.
I learned that when remodeling a bathroom, it is not a huge expense to put the shower head on one wall and the control valves on the opposite wall (so you don’t get wet when turning them on from outside of the shower).
Interesting. To try to save on water (Colorado is REALLLY dry this year), I’ve recently tried turning water off mid-shower for shampoo and conditioner parts. Alas, there can be some temp control challenges.
Our contractor showed us a bathroom where the controls were in the pony wall. Easy to reach in and turn on without getting wet.
The contractor also wants to put the niche in the pony wall so that our “cheap generic brand shampoo” doesn’t show. Lol
We have a niche in our pony wall where I keep my very expensive Oribe shampoo! My husband’s cheap generic one is prominently displayed on the top of the pony wall! ![]()
Nice - just like I’ve seen in hotels.
Some birds will fight themselves if they see themselves in a mirror … and if it’s a side view mirror on a car parked in the driveway, they will return to it constantly to fight that bird. I know this because I asked my neighbor why he put plastic bags over his side view mirrors … he wasn’t concerned that the bird was trying to attack itself, but he was tired of the bird poop it was leaving all over the side of his car.
Things (fruit and veggies, cleaning supplies, etc.) are definitely cheaper in Manhattan’s Chinatown
Saw this recently on a Facebook Reel!
A person can cash a check twice?!! My 91 yr old neighbor said he paid a window washer $250 on Monday. The check was cashed for $247 and then again for $250. I would hope his bank would have eventually caught this.
i would think the bank would catch it eventually, but it happened to my coworker’s D. She was cashing a check from her mom. She tried to do it direct deposit and it gave her an error message, so she took it to the bank the next day. They cashed the hard copy check and later that day the direct deposit error straightened itself out. The bank did fix it. The D never noticed she got paid twice.
I just learned how to remove paragraph numbering in a very large Word document. Nothing suggested by Microsoft or Copilot worked, but Google found an answer provided by a human in a MSFT forum: change the numbers to bullets and then select “none.” Worked like magic!
I learned what Chesterton’s Fence is.
Oh, this is so good. I saved the blog post. Thanks!
Today I learned what Chesterton’s fence is! ![]()
I actually lived this to an extent. I retired as department head at a small hospital. Later on they hired consultants (seems like everyone hired consultants back then for big bucks). The hospital president called me back in to listen to the final presentation. I think everything they proposed had already been done and revised several times over during many years. They really did forget to start with the simple question “why are these procedures in place presently?”.
