I learned that giant offshore turbines (15 MW) can generate up to 20 kWh in a single rotation. That’s enough energy to power up a small house for a day!

I learned that baked bacon in toaster oven in foil covered pan with a rack to put bacon on is very tasty and doesn’t make nearly the mess that other cooking methods does! 400 degrees for 20 minutes worked well for thick cut bacon! The bacon drippings went into a pill bottle for neighbors to use for seasoning their cast iron pan.
Blotting the oil with paper towels really gets rid of a lot of it!

I learned that some car batteries need to be programmed. I’m not even sure what that actually means. My 2015 Mercedes had a dead battery yesterday morning. My husband was able to get it started with a charger. He went to the automotive part store to buy a new battery. The sales person said he could sell him a battery but he couldn’t install it as it needed a computer program. Our mechanic said he can do it so will take it to him next week. It’s impressive that this is the original battery and I bought the car in Dec of 2014.

My Audi is like that, too. Fortunately, it’s only been one replacement in 12 years. $$$
I learned today just a block from me, that 8 parcels were combined into one and they’re going to build 45 townhomes.
I guess it’s better than an apartment building with no parking.

So far, we have been fortunate that most of the homes around us remain single-family or sometimes an extended family, but not increasing 8 parcels to build 45 townhomes! One person put 4 townhomes on a parcel and will be building more on an adjacent parcel purchased. Fortunately it’s not close enough to our home to affect us overly much with the congestion & parking issues.
Good lord. Townhomes can also be built without any parking so hopefully this new development will have at least some dedicated parking.

Yes, many developments around here are being built with less parking (e.g. one space for 2-bedroom units—cost cutting), assuming only 1 motorized vehicle & the other will walk, fly, swim or somehow get around a city that doesn’t have any great transit. Even worse, some places have tiny spaces for vehicles that are getting larger and theater parking rather than side by side.

The others built around here tend to have one car garages. Some with two, but not as common. One house down the block was torn down and 8 townhomes were built, and another 9 across from those. The zoning changed with the light rail. Where the large apartments went on, the residents all park on the surrounding streets because the buildings charge extra for the garages.
Across from the station, the side streets are full of cars from 8-ish as the station garage is full. We are fortunate to live on a cul-de-sac, so no one will be parking here.
