Oh, definitely! I’m not against them, per se, mostly the city’s inability to do proper planning. There are no sidewalks, frontage is not at all appealing, they didn’t plan for any amenities, etc. I think they expected something to happen organically, but this was all single-family homes from the mid-50s to the 70s, and people drove everywhere. I’ll be long gone before there are corner markets and coffee shops nearby

These are ugly, skinny, 3-4 story tall, with one room per each floor boxes. And not so affordable! Our public transportation is not like the one in NYC, so to get anywhere, a family has to have at least one car, because there is usually nothing within walking distances. So terrible planning, indeed.

In our city, they’ve planned so poorly that the infrastructure (including electricity) can’t keep up with demand and they keep allowing more and more high density units WITHOUT doing the needed infrastructure improvements! One major business tower downtown has had to shut down for 1+ months due to NO POWER! It has many businesses running in it, including a health insurance firm, law offices and many others.

Our son and DIL just bought a townhouse. It has a small two car driveway and a one car garage. People can park on the street as well. The development seems to consist of mostly young people and young families. I’m happy for them.

I’m reading a book (the calamity club, very good) and I learned it’s dentil molding, not dental, even though both words refer to teeth. I just assumed dental since it does look like teeth.

My kids learned about dentils in an architecture class they took at an academic summer camp. For some reason, that’s always stayed with me.

Today I learned to print a google form questionnaire so it doesn’t take up tons of paper. Save it to pdf as a legal size doc & then print the pdf doc on letter size. It was suggested somewhere on web & works well.

Also learned that trying to buy something online on your phone when a passenger in a car isn’t ideal. There may be LOTS of verification and inputting of codes that is required, as well as considerable stress when you accidentally close a tab you didn’t mean to so you have to verify whether or not you may have made the purchase or not. Oh well, eventually, we got home & I got my password paper and verified that the transaction did go through and was able to get a code re-sent to my email so I could enter it in the vendor’s website and complete the purchase. Phew!
In the future, I will do purchases at my desktop or at least when I have more than one electronic device on hand so I can get the code on one device and enter it on the one I am using for the purchase. I get that it may help deter fraud but it makes online purchasing much more cumbersome and awkward!
