What did you learn today?

Be careful of SSA emails. I’ve received several this week but only one from ssa.gov. The others were spam from .com emails.

For us, the local office wait time on the phone was 15-20 minutes and the nice lady scheduled an appointment for 2 workdays from now and told us to bring in IDs. I was very pleased that we no longer have to keep calling and leaving messages and getting hung up on!

So, search around and try to find your local office.

I learned that Minimalist Art can be a lot of fun to see (docent led visit to the exhibit at the Museum of Art).

I learned that pangolins are quite adorable.

I learned that upon your 25th month payment for Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), a person is automatically enrolled in Medicare B & has premiums deducted from SSDI payments. This includes back payments that you were due but denied for years.

Seems like BCBS and Medicare nay have to reimburse some copays. We shall see how this all works out.

Yes, after two years on Social Security disability, one automatically gets Medicare, and it becomes retroactive I believe to the date of the application.

Wow! I would have thought it would take of the enamel, or at least scratch it horribly.

Pulling weeds by hand and getting sticky hands - washing did not help but the alcohol hand sanitizer took it off.

I learned that in Australia they refer to the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc I love as *itch diesel.

Okay, I’ve gotta know if I can buy that B*tch diesel in the US.

It’s actually a blanket term for all New Zealand sauvignon blanc , but it happened to be Dog Point.

Today I had an Australian colleague describe a politician as a “dag”. Below is the literal definition and the words use was described as a common derogatory nickname. “That guy is a total dag”.

“A sheep “dag” is a buildup of matted, dirty wool, typically found around a sheep’s tail and rear end, due to the accumulation of feces.”

I’m going to be incorporating Australian slang into my vocabulary from now on.

SS local office has competent people answering the phone. They were able to understand that H should NOT have to pay Medicare from both his Federal pension (he’s been paying premiums from for over a decade) & now his new SS spousal benefit. They will issue a refund of premiums paid and then going forward give him spousal benefits WITHOUT deducting Medicare premiums. Yay! Saved us a trip to SSA office.

I took my first ride in a driverless car (Waymo). Unfortunately, this technology is not quite up to standards. The car took an indirect route, changed lanes in the middle of an intersection, and turned in front of a car when pulling into the parking lot. We took an Uber home.

The sheep dag reminded me that I’ve been learning a lot about Pygmy goats giving birth (they need c sections often and if they have a c section, they often reject the baby), and cow hoof specialists on FB. I barely use FB for anything but specific informational pages and the algorithm is throwing all kinds of weird stuff on my page trying to get me to engage.

I want to keep scrolling, but for some reason it’s fascinating plus the little baby goats are really cute!

I learned today that transferring points from AMEX membership rewards to partner airlines is not always straightforward. H and I gifted younger D and soon-to-be husband tickets for their honeymoon to Croatia and Italy. We decided to use points since we have tons on AMEX. I spent nearly three hours on the phone with AMEX and Delta Skymiles trying to figure out the best way to do this. The good news is they have their tickets: NY to Dubrovnik and then Rome to NY.
