I’m trying to figure out what boys like to use to carry their stuff to the bathrooms in the dorms. I suppose they bring razor, shampoo, contact lens stuff, soap… Thanks for suggestions.

Shaving kit bag.

Do they actually use shampoo, razors, etc. ?

I gave my S a caddy: plastic basket with handle. Needed as well: a toothmug. Of course, at home, the stuff takes up the entire bathroom counter and leaves rustmarks on it. ;)

Thanks, weenie, for raising this “pedestrian” question which has had me flamboozled also. I know a shaving kit could work, but somehow it didn’t seem quite right. Clearly, I don’t have enough to do.

A zip-lock freezer-sized bag (or two). He’s cheap, but practical.

BBB has plastic baskets so any water can flow through. Easily washable, as well, and pretty inexpensive.

Linens and Things has totes in many colors for under $10 that also include a soap case, toothbrush case, and cup. I guess boys could use this as well as girls.

at my daughters school, there are shelves to keep your stuff on so you don’t have to schelp it back and forth.
She has a wire basket to hold everything in the shower.
They have coed bathrooms- but everyone seems to have similar baskets from what I have seen

S uses personal organizer from LLBean, hangs on a hook.

30+ years ago I used a small plastic pail.

It came in handy for other uses as well…

ewwwwwww…

anyway

my son has one of the ll bean hangers --as do I but that doesnt count since i am old as dirt-- I like it, so does he… rolls out, but is discrete…

would be interested ot see what the boys think of colored totes.

My boys have also done the ziplock bag thing, or put their stuff in a big plastic cup (the kind you get at a sports arena) that they used as their drinking/brushing cup . This year, older s. “moved up” to a black bag thing my h. got on an overseas flight.

Son uses a white plastic basket with a handle that has several drain holes. He Lysols it frequently. I don’t think there is a place to hang anything at his dorm. It is sturdy enough to hold the shampoo, conditioner and soap. He always wears flip flops on his feet, lots of Lysol is used on them.

Bed, Bath and Beyond is careful to sell its plastic tote in black and also clear. The macho way to carry your stuff. ;)

Actually, d wanted a clear one…

I am SO glad you asked this question! I just bought the standard carryall at BB&B and showed it to S who immediately exclaimed:
“Mom, that’s so gay”. He is sure no guys would ever be caught dead carrying those things. I asked a friend of mine with two boys in college who said they will use them but to be sure they can “hang” their carryall inside of the shower.

Well, those carryall things don’t have very long handles. And my question about the LLBean thing is that they would get soaked every time in the shower. My son has one so I’m familiar with what they look like and what they’re made of.

Looking forward to more posts from people who have sons who have done this. Frankly, my son would probably make do with a ziploc too.

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times…

H just received an elegant leather version of the LL Bean-type hanging shower caddy (it was the “host gift” from a golf tournament). He’s giving it to DS, but it certainly can’t go inside the shower. Oh, well. I guess the idea is to hang it on a hook OUTSIDE the shower. Oh, yes, he’ll definitely do that. Right after he folds the towel in an equal trifold and centers it on the towel rack.

Do the girls usually have 2 types of containers. D is thinking 1 of the plastic sort for the shower and a second type that she would use when she is just brushing teeth and washing her face. And girls use a lot more stuff to wash their faces.

I asked my son this question. “Right hand, shampoo. Left hand, soap case. Towels over arm.” His room has a sink, so he does the teeth and the razor in his room.
