Done by bunch of hipster white kids with folk influences with all the HEY shouts and and other hippie type BS?

Like Mumford and Sons? Some people call that Americana. I used to think of Americana as Bob Dylan, Tom Waites, David Bromberg, The Band, Iris Dement, Johnny Cash and lots of younger artists who respected that tradition, with country, blues, and folk influences. Lately Mumford and Sons are getting a lot of criticism for their alleged lack of musicianship, and their “stomping”. My daughter is a musician, and we have a local music scene just chock full of hipsters. And ukeleles.

Indie folk

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes have a really fun song called “Home”

You can hear local musicians in that genre @ The Triple Door this weekend , Barrons.

But I prefer the Tractor.

I don’t think that someone who calls a genre “hippie type BS” is interested in actually listening to it…

I think Barrons likes to poke fun at himself. He knows how appealing a
sense of humor is! ;)

plus, I think he’s showing his age:)

Personally, I dont care for hipsters that much. They seem to take the scruffiness of hippies and leave out the environmental conciousness, and the materialism of yuppies without the Jimmy Choos.
We moved to our Seattle neighborhood because it was blue collar & affordable- but now it is * hipster ground zero*.
Dont listen to Mumford and sons, but I do like local Americana/ bluegrass/roots rock.
But leave the porkpie hats at home please, unless you are Jeff Fielder.
That boy can do no wrong.
Get off my lawn, while youre at it.

Haha, emeraldkity! My 23 year old musician daughter feels the same way about hipsters, at least the ones she knows personally. And I love bluegrass and roots music, but some of OUR local acts don’t seem to understand that you should really learn to play that banjo you’re toting. And bad uke playing all over the place. Somebody on CC once referred to fedoras at “hipster comb overs.” Hee.

No, I’m not interested in hearing any more of it than I already can’t avoid on the radio. Just wondered if it had a name–like punk, hip-hop, folk-rock, cali mellow rock, etc etc. Now Patsy Cline was good. I have a soft spot for real country music–esp by women taking on some of the country establishment back in the day. Loved the sound track for Last Picture Show.
This newer stuff reminds me of the brief flare-up of similar groups in the 80’s whose names I can’t remember now. Lots of unkempt hair and hippie style.

Most hated 1 today-Lumineers. Hey! #2 Mumford and Sons. Puke.

Ahhh-I’m not alone. I feel better now. Putting some GNR on the Bose now and shutting my office door.

I will take any and all of it over Selena/Taylor/Bieber/Cyrus, thank you very much. I’m no hipster but I like what my local power-alternative station plays.

Of course–that is music for tweens. Talking about rock or what kids 16+ listen to.

OP when I read your first post I thought you were talking about the song “Blurred Lines”

More hate

[The 20 Worst Hipster Bands: The Complete List](http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2012/08/worst_hipster_bands_all_time_c.php?page=20)

Blurred Lines maybe a lot of things but not hippie crap. Closer to Robert Palmer “Addicted to Love” video.

I think the melding of country music with rap music was pure genius. I mean, what 2 groups of fans could be farther apart? I was giving credit to Jason Aldean (Dirt Road Anthem) but I just found out that Colt Ford wrote that song and perhaps invented the genre. I am, unlikely, a new fan.

I like Hey Ho (or is it Ho Hey?) It has a good hook. While we’re talking music my current favorite CD is Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Love Has Come for You.

NJ, I am a huge country fan- rap is extremely hit or miss for me.

All in all, I’m not a fan of the collaboration. The only one I’ve heard that I really like is “Cruise”.

Then there are country artists that try to rap… just no, please don’t! lol

Wellspring, thanks for the Love Has Come for You suggestion. Love both of them, and Steve definitely can play that banjo!

Barrons, I haven’t heard of most of those bands although they play a few tunes @ water aerobics & I kinda * like * Bon Iver.
Death Cab of course is from Ds school, but I dont really get the attraction.
Just dont put Blind Pilot, Wilco or Glen Hansard on your haters list.
I like Gangstagrass too http://gangstagrass.com/
BTW
Roger Waters is 70 today?
