What do you buy at Costco?

Twice in the past couple of months I got notices of a manufacturer’s recall from Costco. One was smoked salmon (and it was after the Jewish holidays where every Jew in the world was scarfing down lox for break-the-fast on Yom Kippur) and the other was for a giant box of those round peanut and jelly sandwiches in the frozen food section. Both times I had a tiny bit leftover and so had ingested almost all of it with no consequences and got a full refund. Is it wrong to think that that was a great deal? :)

No. I took the half-eaten jar of PB to Costco for a refund, too. BTW, they decided to err on the side of caution and issue those recalls even though none of the recalled products tested positive for the bugs. Kudos to Costco!

Finally! Fresh chanterelles have arrived at my Costco!!! I’m happy.

Has anyone tried the brownie brittle? It comes in a pouch type container. It seems to be brownie batter spread out thin and baked with chocolate chips sprinkled on top. If you like the edges and corners of brownies you will like it. It didn’t last long at our house!

Yes, I’ve had Brownie Brittle. You’re right, it’s terrific! It’s nice to serve with a scoop of ice cream for a light dessert. I saw an XL bag of it at Costco today but I’ve purchased smaller bags at Publix. There’s a toffee crunch variety and a walnut variety, too.

I’ll have to look for the Brownie Brittle tomorrow. D2 & I are going to pick up the largest fresh turkey in the case (for some reason my size 00 picky eater is adamant about picking out the biggest turkey ever each year, even though there’s only 7 of us for dinner!) Also will be picking up a bag of fresh brussel sprouts, and some fresh mozzarella.

I may go to Costco on Friday as there are a few things in the Black Friday flier that I need to pick up anyway. And I love the cookbooks they give away that day :)

I saw the brownie brittle and was curious. Toledo, those noodles sound interesting! How many single servings in the box?

I bought the pre-cubed butternut squash yesterday in the fresh produce - had it a few times last year. You have to be a little careful cause it doesn’t always last real long, but put baked some tonight with butter, a little brown sugar and a last minute sprinkle of sea salt - I could have eaten that alone for dinner - yum!

OMG- found the brownie brittle this past summer. That is some dangerously yummy stuff. For better or for worse, they had some different brittle last time I was there (toffee crunch, I think) and fortunately it didnt interest me.

I love Costco! A couple of weeks ago I purchased a new Sunbeam electric lap blanket to replace one I bought 2-3 years that just stopped working. On my way out of the store, I stopped by customer service and mentioned I was disappointed that I had to buy a new blanket. She told me to bring back the old one and they would look up my purchase. The next week, I brought in the blanket and, after a few minutes on the computer, they handed me a $30 cash refund!

I just saw the blanket for $6 off, so I’m going to bring in my new receipt to get credited.

After years belonging to BJs, we just joined Costco. (It’s closer to our new house.) I’ve had a lot of experience with BJs so I’m curious to see how Costco compares. Their bakery products look wonderful, but I was disappointed that they didn’t have the two kinds of Iams dog food that our dogs eat.

I really like Costco better than BJs. However, the nearest Costco is 45 minutes away and BJs is five.

I went with a friend to Costco and that’s where I got my new $500 Hansgroh kitchen faucet for $200. I had been researching faucets and was thrilled to find exactly what I wanted there.

I think each of the big box discounters (SAMs, Costco , BJ’s ) has their pluses and minuses and none of them carry all we want- guess that’s why some people belong to more than one!

My sister in law always orders spices online and one thing she always eats is Saigon Cinnamon. I noticed Costco had a Kirkland Saigon CHEAP last week - $2.59 for almost 11 ounces - that’s a BIG spice jar! Gonna pick her up a jar to try and give it to her as a hostess gift on Thanksgiving!

Tried cornbread made from Marie Callender’s cornbread mix at my Costco and bought a package. It is soooo easy to make since the only additonal ingredient needed is water, and the final thing tastes good, especially if made into muffins. Even my cats enjoyed them - I forgot to put the plate with leftover muffins away, and the counter surfer kitties had a feast last night! :)

Lots of stuff listed earlier but new things keep coming in. We bought organic turkeys for $2.99 per pound yesterday. Persimmons. Organic hummus (which is terrific). Wish they’d bring back P’tit Basque and Huntsman cheeses.

We had a couple of trees fall on our house during Sandy and a friend who is in construction and a great contractor who’d worked on our prior house in a different town but who now lives in our town came over that night to help mitigate the water damage. Through their relationships, the tree guy came to our house first thing the next morning (others had to wait several days). The contractor came over when the insurance guy came by and helped me negotiate with them – we’re using him for the construction. In any case, I stopped at the Concord liquor store and bough $45 bottles of Barolo, which would undoubtedly have been $60 or more anyplace else. Also, the Kirkland brand Anejo tequila is good, for those of you who have a taste for stuff that is not rot-gut.

Well, I’ve been wondering if I should join up and I think this thread has convinced me.

Just bought Yakisoba and Brownie Brittle based on my fellow CCers’ recommendations. Will report back…

Just got 4 new Bridgestone tires today with a coupon special. Also picked up a bunch of stuff for my son to take back to school after Thanksgiving-Nutrigrain bars, Goldfish, 3 pack of spaghetti sauce and multipack of spaghetti, parmesan cheese, etc.
I like their 2 pack of big jars of olives. Also their multi packs of anchovies and big containers of Utz pretzel rods. I like the bags of green beans but they didn’t have them today.

Lately I’ve been really into Costco produce: Artisan lettuce, asparagus, navel oranges, Haas avocado. And last week I got an absolutely gorgeous bunch of Meyer lemons. Not sure what I’m going to do with them but used one last night on salmon and they look so pretty in a bowl on the counter.

Also liking the Kirkland women’s wool socks. Much cheaper than Smartwool and good quality.

I don’t tend to buy “bag o salad” from anywhere but Costco has had a couple of blends recently that look interesting - interesting ingredients (not just “lettuce”)

Last night I bought one that has kale, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries and some other stuff in it - it comes with a package of dressing too (poppyseed I think) which I could take or leave. There was another blend that looked good too - maybe a sweet onion dressing with it?

Anyone try these???

Also new and liked at Costco by our family:
Individual sized bags of kettle corn
