What do you buy at Costco?

I love, love, love the Kirkland pulled pork. Heat in the microwave (not frozen), add your favorite sauce! Many shredded pork packages It’s just my daughter and me so we don’t use it all up in one sitting (it’s not a gigantic package, maybe 2 pounds?) but it keeps long enough. And you get a lot more in the package than the supermarket brands that include a lot of sauce.

…those wool socks are fantastic - got mine in the fall and ended up buying more as gifts to all the females on my list. $10 for three pair, as I recall, and I was glad to have them this a.m. when it was a whopping 9 - yes, nine - out.

My local store sold out before Christmas, but if you see them next fall stock up.

Costo’s rotiserrie chickens are our idea of a fast food night. That has to be a loss leader there.

Almonds, walnuts, chicken samosas, Greek yogurt, movie tickets.

Rudi’s Gluten-free bread - 2 loaves for $7.39. Adding to my list of something I will buy every trip.

Another upvote for Kirkland women’s wool socks. They even fit my large feet!

Costco salads in a bag: Last week I bought the kale salad with the poppyseed dressing and the broccoli salad with the sweet onion dressing. Both were good, if you add some other fresh ingredients to them.

For the kale salad, I added a whole yellow pepper, English cucumber, spinach, and romaine lettuce, along with the broccoli, cranberries, and nuts that came with the mix. I liked the poppyseed dressing.

The broccoli salad was even better. I added carrots, orange pepper, cucumber, and feta cheese. I took a huge bowl of this to a church supper and there was only a tiny bit left by the end.

Bookiemom, thanks so much - you know exactly what I’m referring to! Good suggestions!

So as Bookie explained above, I took the kale salad ( 1/2 the bag - enough for tonight’s dinner and then my lunch tomorrow) and added some stuff to it - chopped red pepper, carrots, sliced almonds, onion - considered olives. Also added some dried blueberries - another “superfood” - which is what this salad claims to contain- 7 super foods. It is DELICIOUS. Love that the package has 2 separate dressing packets. Happy to find another salad option!

I wish Costco was closer…maybe not!

Off label uses (this could be a whole 'nother thread) - when poor late dog was failing and not eating, I would buy two Costco rotisserie chickens, pull all the meat off the birds and process it in the Cuisinart and that was dog food for the week.

Immediately after Hurricane Sandy when gas stations ran out of gas and long lines were forming around any that were open,co-worker could not find a gas can anywhere to buy so she bought the large Utz pretzel barrel, threw out the contents, and somehow convinced a gas station attendant to fill the container with gas. This is, of course, insane and probably illegal behavior.

Great news about those bagged salads-can you tell me where you found them? Are they new item?

I’m not sure how new they are but I started noticing them a couple months ago. I found them in the cold “produce room” - where the other fruits/veggies are - near the romaine and stuff.

Just ate the salad - very good - especially like the addition of some more crunchy/ salty stuff. Nuts, crisp veggies, real bacon bits would be good if you can afford the calories!

One of the salads did have bacon bits in it, the broccoli one, I think. I didn’t use them as the salad was going to be sitting out for a while. I do think it’s better to add some very fresh stuff to these salads, as they then don’t seem like something just “out of a bag.”

These were in the cold produce room as abasket said, near the other lettuce items.

I always buy the Morning Star Breakfast Veggie Sausage at Costco because it’s so much cheaper than grocery stores or Trader Joes. The Foster Farms grilled chicken in the refrigerator section is delicious and I like having a couple bags on hand for quick pasta dishes or soup. Our closest Costco is 35 miles but it’s worth the drive.

My favorite recent purchase is a set of Portuguese flannel sheets. They were ridiculously cheap $30 or so and are the most amazingly soft sheets I’ve ever slept on. Better than high dollar 5.0 oz flannel from Lands End. My only regret is that I didn’t buy a set for everyone.

Agent99–is there a chance Costco is still selling them on-line? I just searched sheets at Costco and this came up. Of course, not sure if they are Portuguese. They are described as European cotton, but made in China!

I am in Costo far too often. My husband accuses me of using it as a 7-11. I am always taken aback to see the year-end summary, especially when I know that I mainly purchase food and cleaning products there.

Our extended family LOVES Costco and many of us go there several times/week. Sometimes I have even gone there multiple times in the same day (it’s a 5-minute drive from our home and one of the closest grocery stores). Love that you can buy a lot of very nice high end things and think them over, return with NO HASSLE.

S loves buying his luggage there. They have Briggs and Riley, which is his current favorite, especially since it’s a nice size for him to roll on the airplane and the one he just found the other day has a better front pocket than the one he had previously (now has a pleat so you can open the pocket).

I’m usually not crazy about bagged salads, but I’ll have to try the ones mentioned above.

What I’ve found recently is the “artisan lettuce”, which is 6 small heads of different lettuces in a package. Very tasty, interesting, crisp and fresh!

Just finished reading “The Hunt” by Mark Bowden - about the raid that ended Osama Bin Laden’s life - and when the White House was calling in top advisors, on a weekend, they staggered arrivals so as not to tip the press’s hand and laid out a table of Costco food so they could feed the increasing numbers without further drawing attention.

One of the principals (I forget who) was interviewed on tv about that detail. He said it was true and “I love Costco…”

It is a crime not spending less than $200 each time I go to Costco, for that I hate it!
