What do you buy at Costco?

<p>I love that kale superfood salad mix (and I also don’t often like bagged salads.) I also don’t usually like sweet dressings like the poppyseed one, but the whole combo is absolutely delicious. I’m addicted. I’ve also taken the greens and stir fried them in olive oil and garlic, then sprinkled a bit of the pumpkin seed/cranberries on top (no dressing though.) Very good too.</p>

<p>It’s the perfect time of year for Costco Chicken pot pie. Family fav for comfort food on a cold winter night! We don’t have any sides just more pie- yum!</p>

<p>Was going to buy a second set of merino wool bottom layer lining (top and bottom) for skiing but they are already gone</p>

<p>I have been away from this thread for awhile so apologize if someone has already mentioned this… anyone notice that the pizza dough on the fresh baked cafe pizza has changed for the worse? The quality of the dough now reminds me of Dominos or Little Caesars.</p>

<p>I shopped there while the boys were growing up to save money. But I can NEVER get out of there without spending $300. 300 seems to be the magical number. I have no idea why. LOL.
With just dh and I now, I don’t need those quantities though sometimes I think of going back.</p>

<p>My wife loves the pizza from their snack bar. I find it a little too cheesy but pretty good. It’s certainly large enough for the price. Haven’t noticed any change in the pizza dough.</p>

<p>I noticed this week that Costco is now carrying a fresh deep dish pizza; they were in the refrigerated case right next to the rotisserie chicken display.</p>

<p>I’m a little more careful about prepared food these days. The last Costco chicken pot pie we ate seemed to be loaded with salt.</p>

<p>jshain - the fresh baked pizza dough has not changed in years, may either be a cooking or storage issue? If at all possible try one from a different warehouse. The only difference between that and the one from the Food Court is the deli ones (Take and Bake) arrive pre-pressed and the Food Court ones arrive in a dough ball and are pressed on site.
The newer chicken pot pies now include some dark meat which definitely makes them taste saltier imho. Still can’t resist it so I try not to but one unless everyone is home so fewer leftovers :slight_smile:

<p>^^I was traumatized by disgusting Swanson chicken pot pies as a child. I haven’t been able to eat chicken pot pie ever since. :eek: Are COSTCO’s pot pies really that good? Are they worth overcoming post-traumatic pot pie disorder (PTPPD)?</p>

<p>12rm - why don’t you make your own chicken pot pie? I use a recipe from the old red and white Better Homes cookbook that’s straightforward. Happened to catch Pepin and Julia Child today (obviously a repeat, but I’ve no idea the year) making a chicken pot pie that involved Julia grabbing the rolling pin from Jacques and then beating a confession out of the crust. Jacques was a little too gentle, in her opinion. The crust had been chilled for a couple hours, but Julia said she kept a piece of marble in her refrigerator for crusts, and that she’d picked her marble up in a cemetery. It left me craving chicken pot pie but glad I wasn’t eating it because I would have choked I was laughing so hard.</p>

<p>I go about once a month, and I also check out the coupons they send out and will go if there is a good deal listed. I buy all of our dog/cat food, storage bags (ziplock, etc) laundry supplies, cheese (big discount over local), boxed cereals (although Target often matches the price now), over-the-counter meds, shampoo/rinse, shaving needs, husbands dress socks. Love their raw flour tortillas! Don’t buy much meat there as there are only 3 of us left, but will go if I need a large cut for a party or batch of BarBQ Beef. Get a lot of my snack bar supplies for high school. </p>

<p>One-time or internet purchases include all of the flowers for my D’s wedding (great price!!!), all of our car tires, on-line Keurig (rebate plus free shipping), have booked rental cars thru their travel service at a big savings, a large earthquake supply pak (we are in So Calif. lol). I have the executive membership which offers a rebate based on your shopping- if you don’t spend enough they will refund the difference between executive and regular membership. I thought about dropping our membership as there are only 3 of us now, but every time I think about it, some big purchase that makes it worth it pops up!</p>

<p>After trying a few store bought chicken pot pies, I too made my own. I have to confess to using TJ’s pie dough. Better then what I make besides saving 20 minutes. <p>…that’s what I do, kathiep. Gather all the leftover chicken and veggies so I feel like I’m just making a pie crust. You get to control the sodium and fat that way, too, though I’ve never found a way to cut fat out of a crust.</p>

OK, this alone would inspire me to attempt a homemade pot pie, especially the part about beating a confession out of the crust. :smiley: Gotta love Julia.</p>

<p>Boston Market’s chicken pot pies are pretty good. Just sayin’…I’m too lazy to make my own. But now you have me wanting to try the ones from Costco :).</p>

<p>I recently bought a very nice espresso machine from Costco. It was $100 cheaper than anywhere else. I had to pay for shipping, but it was a bargain. They didn’t have any in our local stores. I also buy cat litter, San Pelegrino water, jelly beans, and big thongs of nuts. I don’t go very often, because as my husband says, “I go for groceries, but come home with luggage.” I wind up spending way too much there.</p>
