What do you buy at Costco?

CT1417 regarding seafood, they had some beautiful lobster claws but no one to sell them. Someone showed up, a line formed, I told my son to wait in line and after 5 min the guy left and never came back :frowning: Sometimes they have extra lobsters and crabs in the gondolas freezers but not this time. They were all in that little seafood stand, with no one to serve.

Best pineapples are my home grown ones!!! (I’ve got a dozen plants)

My s/o now buys his shirts and jeans ($13?) at COSTCO. Months ago, they had Calvin Klein soft blankets (<$20). They sold out before I could get there, but months later, came back.

I LOVE the Berry sundae at the food counter. It is fat free frozen yogurt soft serve swirled with a mixed berry compote. Decadent!

I am partial to the chocolate soft serve. $1.44 with tax. Ask me how I know that. Yum

Berry smoothie…$1.55, incl tax

Speaking of food counter items…I HAVE to try that huge ice cream on a stick with chocolate and nuts over it…I actually saw a couple sitting and eating that with a fork and knife, it was that big!! Yikes, does that look yummy…

I agree…miss the diet coke products. I gave up my daily diet coke habit, but still yearn for it on occasion and Costco would have been the place, so inexpensive and free refills.

Their peaches and produce in general are huge, juicy, tasty…we love Spanish Marcona almonds, so will look for those! I’m jealous of bookworm having pineapple plants at her home! ;)

What are Calimyrna figs? Anything like the other, commonly known fig? My younger son loves those…

In fact, we have to get there this week to pay for our annual membership renewal, with pleasure. And re-order my son’s contact lenses…it really is a one-stop shopping for so many things!

Another person very unhappy about the switch to Pepsi. We just don’t get drinks anymore.

As for the giant chocolate ice cream bars: they dip them in the nuts behind the counter, so if you don’t want nuts you can tell them to hold off.

Do they still sell the packages of Hebrew National hot dogs? Hadn’t realized the they swapped out HN for Kirkland dogs, but they have to answer to a higher authority, right?

Thanks jym626 (rolls eyes in sarcasm) for alerting me to yet another place where I can get good ice cream (as if I need another).

When my kids were still in high school, and I often knew who the kids were working at our local Dairy Queen, I could go in and say, “My usual” when asked what I wanted to order!

A container of rotisserie chicken drumsticks/thighs! At $4.99/10 or so heavenly pieces of dark meat it was a steal! They must have used the white meat from those unsold whole chickens for something else.

I have to close my eyes when I walk past the window through which I can see the tubs with gelato and the soft serve machine. :)

They use the white meat for the chicken salad and Greek chicken pasta salad, chicken Alfredo, etc. at our Costco seems you can only find those $4.99 thighs in the morning- they get scooped up fast!

My sister in law raved over a cherry habanero bottled sauce I bought for my fisherman brother last Christmas - she said it was awesome with fish - ours has not had that as of late but today I picked up same brand (Rothschild farms??) different flavor - roasted pineapple habanero ! Gonna try it with my rotisserie chicken tacos I’m making tonight!

I can think of two more ways they use the white meat chicken…
the Chinese chicken salad wraps and the large tubs I’ve seen of chicken soup!

Yikes, we really limit how much we spend there on a given day, hope to not to exceed $100. I try to add up the prices as I go along, otherwise I’d be way over the budget. ;)

The roasted pineapple habanero sauce was very good! I’m a dipper - like to have sauces with meat - the bottle has other suggestions for how to use it - to badge, pour over softened cream cheese for an appetizer, etc

I have to dress to meet clients on a regular basis. I wear suits however I get the most compliments on my $12.99 Costco pencil skirt!

I just bought a really nice men’s sweatshirt-type top, Kirkland brand. It is 100% cotton, quarter zip, light gray with light pink lining around the collar. I got it for me, in a larger size, so it will fit long. Only $19.99! It is made like the Tommy Bahama quarter-zip sweatshirt and very similar in quality because my H has two of those. It’s not fleecey inside, but just thick cotton knit.

If you need a cozy, warm top for fall or winter for any guys (or for women too), this is a really good deal. I only like cotton sweatshirts and they are hard to find, especially in women’s.

I don’t know about the Costco frozen shrimp. I can always tell when its from there because they’re small and sort of…chewy and obviously have been frozen because they’re watery.Anyone else notice that? Maybe because we live by the shore but I like fresh or nothing.

That $1.44 chocolate soft serve is fat free yogurt (but tastes like ice cream custard)-- and about the only thing I can eat at Costco any more! OTOH, it’s a good treat and I feel much better than eating a slice of their pizza or the chicken wrap, both of which I sorely miss. Both of those are trigger foods for me, so I avoid them altogether.

We re-joined on Saturday. It is about 20 miles away, but it’s close to our college grad daughter… we put her on our family membership too. Would their AmEx card be a good deal for her? She only has a debit card and is shopping for a credit card.

dke–re: the smaller size of Costco frozen shrimp. I agree and do not like the 31-50 size of raw, frozen. I had been buying the 21-25 raw frozen for YEARS and they disappeared this year. The small ones thaw too quickly and are not as firm–a little wobbly. I hope the 21-25 size return soon.

We live on the water in CT but I am convinced that most of the shrimp sold in the local seafood shops has been previously frozen. After sampling the local shops’ offerings, we returned to Costco.

Colorado Mom–re: Am Ex. Our Costco AmEx is free and gives us a flat 1.5% on all purchases, Costco and non-Costco. (The rebate is not exactly a flat 1.5%. There is some indexing for the first $5K or so but then is flat 1.5%.) They issue a Costco check each year that I use to pay at the register. They then hand me the balance in cash, often more cash than I want to carry out of Costco.

I believe they now offer another type of Costco AmEx that rewards different types of expenditures at different multipliers. (Dining, gas, something like that) It is worth looking at the terms of each card to see what will provide the greatest rebate.

The AmEx is not a ‘real’ AmEx in that it doesn’t have all the benefits of say a Gold AmEx, but it is free and still allows members to access car insurance for international travel. However, I was unable to have a card issued to my 16 year old whereas a ‘real’ AmEx would have allowed that. Probably not an issue in your situation. They do provide the downloadable year-end statements…I have not had any issues with the card and like that it is free and that I do not need to do anything to ‘use’ my points as they are awarded to me as almost cash each year.

Thanks, CT. DD stopped by for dinner tonight (love that) and mentioned that her preference is a “free” card. I’ll pass on your info.
