We stopped at Burgerville on Sunday before our trek home from wine club stuff and some tasting. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, which is my usual from there. I don’t go to McDs or even get pizza out.
The PT I saw got me going on a mostly non-inflammatory diet, which helped a lot. I started cooking more and added lots of vegs to my diet. Brown rice ramen, glass noodles, brown rice, or quinoa with vegs and a protein make up my dinners.
Yeah I’m not going to pretend that the leftovers or any lunch I have is entirely healthy. Largely yes. But I also will make a plate of nachos and love every bite. Or just have guac and chips.
I’m not a big sandwich person but you can probably make a salad out of any sandwich fixings. Just chop the sandwich ingredients and throw on top of some greens. Another sandwich option is to sub one or two cleaned half red peppers for bread and load your sandwich ingredients in them and eat open or closed faced.
My downfall in the afternoon at lunch or for a snack is a salty crunchy snack like chips.
My downfall is I’ve fallen back into making my lunch a wrap with a flour tortilla. The tortilla adds a lot of extra calories and it starts me on a carb seeking path. I’m going to try some of the suggestions here.
I’ve not eaten McDonalds for over 15 years. I admit I don’t mind the taste I just know it’s not good for me.
When I am working from home I usually have a Freshdirect salad. Thai chicken salad is my favorite. When I am at work I will have sushi or a hot entree (steak, shrimp or chicken).
I also like burrata, avocado and tomato salad as a meal.
I usually eat around 11:30, and my dinner 5:30 - 6. My dinner is a hot meal with proteins. I don’t do snacks in between. I don’t eat a lot of starch or sweets, not for dieting, but I just have no craving for them.
I like the carb counter flour tortillas. Only 60 calories for 2 small tortillas. I make eggs with a bit of cheese and lots of veggies sometimes and put all of it in 2 of these for breakfast. Of course with lots of good hot sauce as I love spicy!
I haven’t seen them but I also haven’t looked. I’ve tried Siete almond tortillas and while I don’t mind the taste I find they aren’t as pliable as a regular flour tortilla. I’ll have to look for the carb reduced ones.
Today I went out for lunch with my husband. We ordered enchiladas Guadalajara with green sauce. They came with rice. We also ordered a beef chimichanga that came with rice and beans. This place also has great freshly fried tortilla chips with an assortment of house made salsas. It was not a low calorie lunch but we have leftovers for tomorrow.
Since I’ve retired I no longer need to eat breakfast on a schedule. Most mornings I have my tea and read the (now online) newspaper, then get busy. Sometime around 10 I have brunch, anything from oatmeal or scrambled eggs to leftovers from last night. Today I had a chicken thigh, some sweet potato and the last of the stir-fry asparagus.
I guess this is where I confess I eat ice cream for lunch a couple of times a week… It’s true - and my current favorite is Jeni’s. I can only buy as many pints as I am willing to let myself eat for the week, because I am kind of an addict. If I’m not eating ice cream, I may skip lunch all together, because I’m busy and we eat dinner early. It’s a good thing I exercise a lot.
I appear to have passed the “gene” to my son, because if you open his freezer you will find about 20 pints of high end ice cream, maybe more, along with some alcohol. He really doesn’t drink much at all, but people bring it when he has parties.
If I’m not eating ice cream, I may have avocado toast (Dave’s Killer bread, skinny slices), some fruit, a salad (usually without protein) or a couple of handfuls of nuts. Besides for avocado toast, I rarely eat bread, unless it’s sour dough.
I do eat a regular breakfast and dinner almost every day.
As I mentioned in the food crime thread, ice cream and white wine are my “problem areas.” I am not overweight (and my son is very thin), but if not for those 2 things I would be much thinner.
Lol. I couldn’t until our oldest grand was allowed to eat ice cream. Now I have a motivation to stay out of my ice cream stash - have to save the pints in case the grandkids stop by.
If you’re on Instagram you need to check out the NYT Cooking Insta and the recently featured staff showing off their separate ice cream freezer - it’s AMAZING. An ice cream lovers GOAL.
If I go out for lunch, I typically order a salad with a protein on it. But when home I tend to nibble. I don’t often eat a sit down meal. I cook eggs a lot so may have a hard boiled egg, or egg salad or a scrambled egg. When I was at work I ate those cottage cheese and fruit things. Or a lean cuisine.
I thought I might’ve wrote this! Fat free Greek plain yogurt, whatever berries were good this week, sprinkle of walnuts, pumpkin seeds/granola. I’m a brunch eater, usually around 11.
