What do you eat for lunch?

Ah - Lean Cuisine - I feel like that’s a blast from my past. I ate many for lunch as a working person, and then I converted to Amy’s, because they seemed healthier (but I think they were also more expensive). Now that I’m retired I don’t eat nearly as many frozen meals.

When I was working another thing I did for quite some time is eat Costco bag salads. I would often eat the entire thing (I think it was considered 3 servings), but the entire bag didn’t have that many calories, especially if I only used half the dressing.

Tortillas are something I always have in the refrigerator. My husband will eat anything in a tortilla. I could do a lettuce wrap but the tortilla is so much more satisfying and easier to eat on the go. My go to lunch tortilla meal is also usually scrambled eggs which go so much better in a tortilla. A classic in our house when we have no food is a flour tortilla warmed on the gas cooktop with peanut butter and jelly.
I need to lose about 5 or 10 lbs and ditching the tortilla helps.
We are another household who likes the Dave’s thin sliced killer bread.

This is me. I eat healthier lunches when I go out. It’s much easier to just nibble at home. I’m currently having pimiento cheese on crackers as my lunch. I’ll probably also have some fruit. But not nearly as healthy as a big salad loaded with veggies and some protein.

I am trying IF again so my largest meal is around 11:30 am. Usually a mixed green salad with homemade vinaigrette and some variety of eggs. I also make a greens and grains salad that is quite filling. I love avocados and smoked salmon on a high fiber bread. Those items are in regular rotation. Yogurt and berries also a staple. Dinner is more of a snack - cheese, apple, veggies, hummus, a few nuts.

Generally I eat pretty healthy. I often make a big salad for dinner with a protein. When I go out to lunch I’m much more likely to order something I wouldn’t eat at home. I reserve burgers, most sandwiches for when I eat out.

Has anyone tried that taco meat/roasted sweet potatoes/cottage cheese/honey (and sometime avocado) bowl?

I’m not on Tik Tok, but those viral Tik Tok recipes eventually come into my radar.

Sounds amazing! We do a lot of homemade bowls for dinner - I’ve definitely used all those ingredients in a bowl! I’d use hot honey.

This is my son’s freezer
Figured maybe you could use a laugh

Right now I’m eating a yogurt from the office refrigerator. They fill it with healthy-ish food items every week.

Usually, I’m eating one of the following items that I pick up from specific lunch places:

  • The #7 (2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a Diet Coke)
  • Small steak & cheese sub with lettuce, pickles and mayo
  • Tuna melt on sliced Scali bread
  • Small meatball sub toasted
  • Pad Thai
  • Chicken parm sub
  • Chicken caeser wrap

I made a delicious wrap last week. It was a chicken caesar wrap but the dressing was a tahini dressing. My husband won’t eat anything with anchovies or anchovy paste in it. The recipe used toasted on the stovetop panko for the crunch. I follow a food person on Instagram who does a live every Monday night and it looked good and I had all the ingredients.

My office is surrounded by fast and quick-service food places, and I have all the apps on my phone. lol. So on workdays, if I didn’t bring leftovers, I frequent:

  • Subway
  • Pancheros (like Chipotle)
  • Freddy’s (upscale steak & shake)
  • Jersey Mike’s (when I want a better sub for a few more bucks…)
  • Burger King
  • McDonald’s
  • Checkers
  • Arby’s
  • New China

At home on days off (Thurs and Sunday), we’ll hit places closer to home, like:

  • Wendy’s
  • Taco Bell
  • Taco John’s
  • Jimmy John’s
  • Hardee’s
  • Domino’s (lazy days – ordering delivery…)

I would love to eat at Culver’s more often, but it’s convenient to neither work nor home.

Homemade hummus on Iraqi bread with a huge cabbage/radish/sugar snaps salad with tahini/lemon/caper dressing. Also small bunch of green grapes.

Enjoyed a two-and-a-half-hour lunch with a couple of CCer’s today. Had an egg white frittata (artichoke, bell pepper, broccolini, spinach, gruyere, marinated tomato, burrata) with a glass of sparkling rosé and a decaf cappucino to linger over. We also reveled in the perfect weather on the shady courtyard patio.

Lunch today…a delicious pastrami Reuben, and fries. Then gelato and cappuccino. It was delicious…and I didn’t have to cook it!

And the company I was with was terrific!

Oooooo…lunch today was white chicken chili with corn chips, an orange, and several huge handfuls of chocolate-covered raisins. Can I help that Costco sells them in large plastic containers that fit perfectly in the fridge door? I’d be better off if I ate less sweets and lost 10 pounds, but I just can’t get motivated!
