What do you hate....that almost everyone else loves

The Mask creeped me out completely!

Thats waaay too convoluted for me.

A real world example would be automation of factories resulting in fewer employees needed to build a given number of air conditioners. Unless the demand for air conditioners increases greatly, the number of employees at the air conditioner factory will be reduced as productivity per employee increases.

On economic growth, a real world example is international trade. While it tends to help economic growth overall, some gain and some lose. The gains are often not as obvious to those who gain (more choices of products at lower cost), but the losses are generally much more obvious to those who lose (loss of job, failure of business that could not compete).

Nevermind… I see that there was an intervening post.

Not a fan of Jim Carrey in his goofy comedies but I think he put in some very strong performances in his more serious roles like The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

not tangential-- convoluted was a better descriptor. But yes-- jim carrey movies bug me. Blech.

Dogs – just never “got” why people go to so much trouble to care for pets. Who needs more housework from dog hair, toileting duties, etc.? I know they are important to many, but I just don’t see what a pet would add to my life, other than extra chores. (I grew up in NYC in a Manhattan apartment building that did not allow pets.)
Ironically, in what some refer to as “God’s joke” on me, my son married a veterinarian. And now I have a “granddog” that I force myself to allow in my house. 8-|

Dogs?

Don’t most posters love grandbabies and ache for them? I’m in no rush. And maybe it’s because neither of my girls is organized enough yet. (Or solvent enough.) And D1, despite some wanderlust, again mentioned how great it would be for me to help raise them. Nice endorsement, but 8-6 most days? Not ready.

I really don’t want grandchildren. I think there is a good chance I won’t have any, which is great!

re: coconut - I mentioned it because I am usually met with shock and horror whenever I tell anyone I hate coconut, so it always seemed to me to be pretty universally liked. But maybe not.

I also hate both apple and pumpkin pie, and I know those are pretty universally liked.

I happen to agree about dogs, which is probably the single best answer to the thread title.

I personally love coconut. My friend at work does not…but she won’t mention it to me anymore because she knows she will be met with my reciting the WHOLE DIALOG from “It’s a Wonderful Life” about coconut…

“What? You don’t like coconut? Say, brainless, don’t you know where coconuts come from?” and on and on and on

MOWC, I’m with you about grandchildren…hopefully my mindset will change on that one before it’s time!

“Hate” is too strong of a word, but I never hopped onto the Tiger Woods bus. I think it’s that my favorite golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus and once Tiger won the '97 Masters, the media at least (and Tiger has said he’s after it too) decided to make his career about breaking Jack’s majors record of 18.

Now that Tiger has come back down to earth, and is no longer really a threat to win four or five more (to tie or break the record) – and since he is just a few months older than I am, so we are both balding, aging men (lol) and i can commiserate – in non-major tournaments, I find myself not hoping that every shot finds trees, water, or rolls past the hole on a putt. Still, I can’t cheer for him to win majors. Maybe in five more years. Although in retrospect, when Tiger is in contention, it’s more exciting.

Reading others’ posts, i realize a few more things i dislike that many (or most) others don’t:

  • Seafood (i can eat it deep fried and slathered with tartar sauce, and i did enjoy a lobster role. but give me steak any day.)
  • Yellow mustard - vinegary bitterness with little of the redeeming flavor of the spicy mustards
  • Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller, Miller Lite, etc. -- most American macro beers. There is just almost no flavor in these. If i'm doing a macro I like Schlitz or Stroh's, but my favorite beers are German lagers/bocks -- German Purity Law! -- and hoppy ales/IPAs. I like hops.
