What do you keep in your wallet?

I need a new wallet. My 20 year old one is giving up the ghost. Seems like there is a trend toward small wallets with room for one or two cards and a drivers license. I guess all the kids pay with Apple Pay on their phones today. Wondering if I should get rid of 3/4ths of the stuff in my current wallet and pare down to a slim one.

I don’t carry a wallet anymore, just my phone with a case that holds a credit card, a debit card, my DL, and my Costco card. I keep a few hundred dollars stashed in my cars. The last time I traveled across the country forgot to bring any cash and ended up going to an ATM, but didn’t spend any of the cash.

I don’t use a typical wallet because it would be too bulky/heavy for my purse. I have a card holder thingy that holds: drivers license, registration, AAA card, health insurance card, debit card and 2 credit cards. I keep some cash in a zippered part of my purse.

Yeah, I’m thinking I need to go smaller. I don’t use most of the stuff in my wallet anyway, but one thing I do really like about it is it has a key ring on it so I can grab my wallet and keys in one fell swoop. But I could offload 3/4ths of the cards.

I often go out with only my phone, which like above, is in a case that holds my DL, one CC, my AAA card and proof of insurance. Depending where I’m going, I might slip some cash in there, too. I love this setup.

I am not a fashionista and have carried the same purse for years. In that purse, I have a separate wallet that really is like a coin purse with an insert that holds credit cards, medical stuff and pics. I also keep my cash in there along with a discount card that I use on the regular when I use cash. I sometimes take a purse but leave it hidden in the car, just in case. I also often carry a sunglass case, but might put it in one pocket and the phone in the other.

Since I no longer carry a checkbook, I have a small zipper wallet that fits i my jeans pocket so I don’t have to carry a purse going into grocery store, etc. I added a tracker inside the zipper part but now they have the tracker cards so I think I’ll get one of those for me (husband and son got one in their Christmas stocking). https://www.amazon.com/Michael-Kors-Silver-Tone-Hardware-Leather/dp/B0FCKD196T/ref=sr_1_50?crid=2CU5DDVMAWJUB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.qoSY9nxRr-NX8MHrusfHfqdw9S08D0CnJIPf8ruRrkD8GLpskgoxm0rkLc3qJdSl0Co6Z-l-VL4KbmjYiuf3f4Z5p5FTC63Gs4jMqKx9JWYGtBxuj7lIN4Xfq_VT_vLvxs4lCbcDsZW-nq0Ewsbwh3NdByKAAMPVgaKhCTGXlzUB3iBKQYYCnNz--GwKryWp31zyrQhrQqjD_OlZllaQ8rIPzaJl9ynk6_ZyfKGGTULa_RT1sfQddeVD4iGnPvJrlEw7rErl_x2TKlwkWYGynta7AOxkKdamNCVYuYNzGMw.61U7D2Ka8gjz02UEB0K7moNFzuLQxpLUa-xxLau5Bik&dib_tag=se&keywords=ladies%2Bwallet&qid=1768069373&sprefix=ladies%2Bwallet%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-50&th=1&psc=1

99% I just have my phone. On rare occasion when I’m driving, I have a thin credit card wallet that holds my license, one credit card, and my insurance card.

Credit cards, AAA, driver livense, health insurance cards cash (money clip). Had a 10-15 year wallet. Wife tired of me losing it. So the new one is equipped with a slot for an air tag.

Unusual items include 2 fast-acting antihistimines because of a previous anaphylactic experience, a card declaring I have an artificial joint (in case TSA has any question), and a large quantity of $1 bills that I use for tipping when I pick up my online grocery orders. Needless to say, I need a large wallet.

I have a wallet on a chain for those occasions where I need to carry more than just a few cards. Otherwise, I get by with my phone in a folio case that has slots for cards. I stuff my DL, Visa, car insurance card, and my medical insurance card in the slots. If I travel by air, I add my passport card (too cheap to pay for real ID DL before the expiration of the current one). The folio looks like this:

When switching to the wallet on a chain, I put my phone in the folio into it.

That’s similar to my system, except I keep the “one or two cards and a drivers license” in my pocket, without the bulk of a wallet. I don’t see much point to the latter. I also keep some cash in my car in case something goes wrong such that both my cards and phone cannot be used, which has never happened before.

I carry A LOT in my front pockets. I use a Ridge wallet. It holds more cards than you need and has an external money clip.

99.9% I carry my phone with a card case attached.

Credit card, drivers license, insurance card and a $20 bill in case I need it. Emergency cash! You never know!

The only thing I miss is a place for coins. Not usually an issue but when I do get coins, I have no place for them. In Europe where I needed euros for the bathroom, it was an issue. I had some pants with no pockets.

My phone case has a crossbody strap.

Women’s front pockets are trash. Small and don’t hold much. My husband carries so much in his front pockets

I have a small card case. It holds my drivers license, AAA card, library card, 2 credit cards.

It fits in a pocket.

Good point @deb922 . Some companies are improving though and I look for pants with deep pockets or even zippered pockets.

Wallet attached to the back of my phone with drivers license, two credit cards and $10 cash. That’s all I carry into stores, etc. But I always have my larger purse with wallet with store credit cards, AAA card, more cash, etc. as well as “purse” items like lip balm, hand sanitizer, measuring tape, etc. in my car. And I rarely go anywhere that I’m not near my car.

Amen. Side pockets can be roomy though.

I picked my coat because it has amazing side pockets! Each pocket has room for a lightweight hat, gloves, and my phone!

Both of my (small) purses have an internal zip pocket where my cards go. I haven’t carried cash/coins in years.

Ha! The first thing I do when/if I buy a pair of pants with pockets is cut them out and sew up the opening. None of my sweaters or sweatshirts have pockets either. I’m very anti-pocket anywhere on my body. They just add bulk. I use DH’s pockets if I (rarely) have to.

For the title question, driver license, car and medical insurance cards, some credit and ATM cards, mass transit card, and some currency. The wallet itself is small, and has two card slots where stacks of cards go and a currency pocket. The wallet material is thin cloth, not leather, so the volume is basically that of the cards and currency.

The way to keep wallets small is to stack the cards without anything between them, unlike old style thick wallets that put each card in its own pocket.
