What do you know about Daniel Webster College?

I’m advising a first gen senior who still mulling over his choices. He is planning to major in EE, and is considering Daniel Webster. I see that it’s for profit and part of ITT – how does that impact students? It’s also not ABET certified in EE - is that likely to be a problem when this student looks for a job?

Yes, lack of ABET accreditation for an EE is a problem. It could affect job prospects, grad school, and ability to work for the patent office. It will completely eliminate the possibility of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.

It was apparently a specialty school emphasizing aviation-related subjects (including ABET accredited aeronautical and mechanical engineering), but it got into financial trouble before being acquired in 2009 by the for-profit ITT.

It would be better to choose a school where he can study in an ABET-accredited electrical engineering program if that is his interest.

What other choices (and net prices) is he looking at?

Thanks for the information - I’ve passed it along, and the family is grateful for the help. He’s looking at Wentworth, and also considering community college for two years, then transferring to a four year. He could live at home and save money, which is probably the best option for him. He would like to have residential college experience, and that is partly driving the decision.

What state is he in?
