What do you love that almost everyone else hates??

My grand/mother’s fruitcake is rum-soaked and moist. It’s heavenly. She gives us several and we make them last as long as we can. Hic!

Ok @ChoatieMom will mom and grams share the recipe? Moist sounds like a major plus. Every one I’ve ever seen looks like a spotted hockey puck.

Our family fruitcake is also great. Dark and full of good stuff.

@Dustyfeathers what good stuff? Ok, some nuts are good stuff, but the rest seems like chopped fruit that has been ruined in some way.

In addition to the add-ins that are trad fruit cake stuff (and a little weird, but just weird enough to smack of tradition)
Dates and figs, a lot of them, and raisins.
lots of dark molasses–this is key. It raises the flavor and makes it daaark and luscious
Pecans. Lots of pecans
real butter
lots of real vanilla
soaked in brandy, resoaked in brandy, and when you get tired of that, more brandy, over like a month or so. Rewrap it between soaking in lots of plastic wrap inside of tin foil.
Serving it is moist and rich. Very thin slices, like a confection.
It will fall apart somewhat when you slice it. As: brandy.

Sounds like it could be poured into a glass.

Disco and bubblegum music, public speaking.

@Dustyfeathers: Your family’s recipe sounds a lot like ours. Brandy and rum are interchangeable with my mom. Whichever she chooses that year, it’s always delicious. It takes her an entire weekend to make all of them, and I’m not aware of any that are not completely consumed.

Bestfriendsgirl- I thought I was the only person on earth who loves disco, pop music and public speaking !

I also love getting my teeth cleaned.

In what world is pop music hated by “almost everyone”? It is popular music, by definition.

Bird’s eye chili.

Wrong thread – I need to post it in the “Hate” thread!

Doing laundry.

@FallGirl I also love getting my teeth cleaned, and I’m in there every six months :). They just bought a new in-mouth camera on a wand so I can see all my teeth in hyper-definition close up. They said people either love it or hate it. I loved it! I was like, oh, there’s a spot I missed…

Spreadsheets. There is something very therapeutic to me about organizing data, making graphs and charts from it. I’d much prefer to hide in my home office crunching data than listen to how someone feels about something.

Pulling weeds. To me there is something very zen about it.

@marvin100:“In what world is pop music hated by “almost everyone”? It is popular music, by definition.”

Ah, but that is the mystery of the music, because obviously a lot of people listen to it, but then feel obligated to say “I hate pop music, it is just so commercial and marketing driven” when talking to others lol. There is pop music that is quite brilliant and fun to listen to,and there is nothing wrong with that. Heck, classical music snobs still get their backs up if someone from pop music like Paul McCartney decide to try their hand at ‘classical’ music, and then we have the Rock Snobs, the critics and the auteurs, who tried turning the rock and roll hall of fame into being this museum of ‘serious’ rock music only (that thank God is changing, the voting now allows fans a say, and groups like Yes, Chicago, ElO, KISS and the like, that the critics and ‘serious’ rock fans disdained for all these years, now are getting in…hopefully the Moody Blues will be next), Jann Wenner must have his bowels in a permanent twist (me, I agree with what Phillip Seymour Hoffman channeling Lester Bangs said in “Almost Famous”, that they were trying to sanctify rock and roll when it was gloriously unsanctifiable).
