Black jelly beans
I love anchovies and black jelly beans, too.
Scrapple. How many of you know what that is?
Our nuclear family loves anchovies. H will eat all the black jellybeans and licorice–we generously give it all to him.
I know what scrapple is, and No Thank You.
Sure, and I’m no fan of pop music myself. But this thread is about things “almost everyone hates,” and, as I said, by definition, pop music is the music that the most people like.
I like Billy Ray Cyrus.
Thunder/lightning storms and torrential downpours.
@alwaysamom not only do I know what it is, we had it for Christmas brunch. Then I discovered there’s another log in the freezer, yay! Old expression: You can take the girl out of Philadelphia, but you can’t take Philadelphia out of the girl.
I like liverwurst, too. And this funky German thing called Leberkase, essentially close to a slab of fried bologna.
And K-Pop.
I like standard time as opposed to daylight savings time.
I’m so glad HI only has standard time. DST is just dang confusing. I’ve never liked it.
@lookingforward I didn’t know you were from Philadelphia! There are a lot of us here and I know that there have been previous you-know-you’re-from-Philly/South Jersey threads. I also love liverwurst.
Suburbs, moved in early 11th, but fond memories of real hoagies and cheese steak.
Spiders. I find them fascinating creatures.
@alwaysamom, I’m also a scrapple lover. I haven’t had it since childhood, because my parents had a special butcher they bought it from, and it tasted better than any I’ve had at a restaurant. We ate it with apple butter spread on it. I don’t like it with syrup.
We eat it plain. Sometimes thicker (1/4 inch or so,) crispy but a little mushy inside. Sometimes thinner.
Sorry if we’re going OT. It’s just such a strong regional memory.
I thought of another one. I like teenagers.
I’m around them at college all the time (as a returning adult learner), and they are, for the most part, pretty awesome. My own two daughters are pretty terrific, as well, and they don’t seem to mind talking to me and hanging out with me.
I think it’s a good group of kids that are the 16-21 year olds right now-they seem pretty practical and plucky, with a good sense of work/life/debt balance.
The only place I don’t see this is the college life forum on here-every now and then I read on there, and I’m immediately sorry I did, because those are not the kids I’m seeing in real life.
I’m pretty sure my mother’s fruitcake would burst into flames if you put a match near it. It had a lot of brandy in it. I just never liked the candied fruit when I was young. I’ve gone over to the dark side though and while I don’t make or buy fruitcake, I can eat it.
I like Scrapple and Haggis.
My teens were easy, but I loved the terrible twos. So fascinating watching your kids become people and testing what they could do.
Add me to the black licorice crew. Yes to leberkase and blutwurst, mortadella and trippa, but no to scrapple.
Gray, overcast days. Sunshine is highly overrated.
And drizzle, loving how green it is here in the PNW.
Heights. I (and my kids, apparently a heritable trait) can stand on the edge of a precipice with toes overhanging and look down. I was at Smith Rock with two of my kids when I decided to scramble up what I thought was a steep ravine (wearing trail runners) to get a photo. Passing the bolted anchors should have been a sign it was not a good idea but I kept going anyway, about 80 feet up. I sat on a ledge with my legs dangling, back against one of those anchors, taking pictures.
