What do you reckon? (Not a chance thread)

Hi guys! Basically, this question is directed at internationals, and probably more at people from the southern hemisphere: have you already been accepted to a university in your native country and are attending that uni while waiting for admissions results on Mar 31?

I’ve been accepted at ANU and am currently undertaking a degree there, but the more the days go by, the less I feel that the admissions results will actually register.

It’s almost like: Hmm…I got accepted to Harvard…meh…I don’t really care anymore…

Princeton did say that I could attend here while I wait for their admissions results (never got anything back from Harvard or Yale), and so that’s what I did, thinking I could easily hop out of ANU and go over to H,Y, or P if I were accepted. It seems a bit more difficult now…

Just my thoughts. How about you?

Most of us are still in/just getting done with high school.

Doesn’t Australia have two intakes - Feb and June, if I’m not mistaken?

It’s mid-Jan and sometime during June - I got in mid-Jan.

Ah, you should’ve gone for the June option!

My degree didn’t allow for deferments - essentially, June is for those who deferred their degree for half a year.

Oh, OK. (10 char)

Hmm… I’m a high school student in Sydney atm and I’ve been wondering about this too. I’ve talked to people form international admissions at Upenn and Brown and they said that it was alright for me to enrol in uni while I wait for results but I must withdraw from it as soon as I choose to accept an offer.

So you’re not sure if you’re gonna leave ANU because you’re getting attached to it? Or you think that process is too complicated?

Essentially, yes. You lose that sense of desire, simply because you’re already in university and not still in high school, waiting for that four-year notification. I mean, I still really want to get in, just that I don’t know how I will actually feel about it when the day comes.

i wonder about that too. poh125, do you think it will by any way hurt your chances? like when they are comparing you with another equally qualified intel and they they go, “well since he/she is already in uni, let’s take the other one instead”?
ps: are you applying for freshie admittance?

ive talked to people about this.

legally you can enroll and take courses at ANU, but must withdraw from ANU as soon as you accept another offer.

my issue is i dont want to pay for a year of australian uni then get an offer from UPenn
