What do you use for extra bed for visitors?

We are recently back from a visit with one of our kids. It was a full house so we had an air bed in the living room. It was decent height and would have been fine if it didn’t have a slow leak. We would have to add a bit of air in the middle of the night. I think it was an Intex.
Another of my kids slept for two years on an aerobed she bought at Costco. It was going to be temporary but she never ended up buying a real bed. It even had a small headboard. Her 50 lb dog slept with her and she had no problems with leaks.

So what are the recommendations for a good automatic queen air bed?

I would be hard pressed not to buy an Aerobed brand bed. We have had/used others and I feel the Aerobed is very reliable, functionable, easy to use. If you belong to Costco they often have them on sale.

It looks like it is out of stock online at Costco here- AeroBed Comfort Lock Queen Air Mattress $169 -but that happened when I ordered the last one and it came in stock. Stocks may be different in stores. Also the mattress pad to keep it from feeling cold is very important. I bought that from Costco, too. All Season Reversible Pillowtop Mattress Pad queen $76

Our Murphy bed is scheduled to be installed tomorrow!!

But, get this?! Ds is coming up in November with two friends - a guy and a girl - for a college football game. Nobody dates anybody else. So, while I was so proud of myself for coming up with a great way to sleep two unrelated people, now I have to find a way to sleep THREE!!

We have an inflatable queen bed but not enough open square footage to put it anywhere. After measuring, a twin won’t really work either. So someone (likely my ds) will be getting the couch for that visit. Thus, I am looking for ways to make a couch more comfortable. I found a cool bundle with a foam topper, narrow sheets, a quilt, etc, that all bundles together in a bag, but it is kind of spendy and designed for a couch that is a foot longer. My sleuthing has determined that the seating area of my couch dimensions is about the same size as a cot, so I may order some sheets, topper, etc based on that. If anyone knows of a good way (or specific products) to really make up a sofa to be more comfortable for sleeping (AND how to store those items - storage is an issue), I’d appreciate it!

I’ll post Murphy bed pics after it’s installed. Gotta figure out where/how to store bedding for that as well.

Can’t wait to see the Murphy!

Truth be told, I love an occasional night sleeping on the couch. Not kidding! Unless you have a really stiff couch I think just putting down a nice sherpa or down blanket/comforter and then top it with a flat sheet to lay on, then whatever on top for covering.

I may have shared this upthread so apologies if it’s a repeat.

We have an inflatable similar to this, although I purchased ours at the Frontgate outlet. This is not our main guest bed but an overflow and also used in the past for kids sleepovers. We set it up in the basement media room so the kids love sleeping down there. It’s easy setup and takedown and stores nicely in a closet. I put a topper on it and have occasionally added a bedskirt when it was being used by an adult for a full week. The raised design makes it feel more like a standard bed.

Y’all. I am SO pleased with this! This company was a dream to work with. Not an inexpensive endeavor, but I feel it was so worth it. We use this smaller bedroom primarily as an office as a spot where I play my guitar. But, it is going to be great as an “extra” extra bedroom when needed.

That looks amazing!

When my son invited something like 4 guys home for some anime(?) conference near us, I wound up borrowing a twin sized blow up bed that would fit in with his bed, and I think I also had another blow up bed in a downstairs part of the house. If it were girls, they would have doubled up in the queen bed, but I guess guys just don’t do that.

Nice! Great that there is a drawer or bedding. Is it full our queen size?

Oh, that, “drawer,” is faux. It’s just there for appearance.

It’s a queen!

I’m looking at your nice murphy bed photo again. Yesterday we stopped at a furniture store to look at their American Leather sofa beds. Was glad to see they were all queen sized (our London trip got me used to seeing double as default size). We opened and tried the mattresses, and they seemed ok… can’t feel the bar like on designs years ago. But the ‘sale’ prices were between $4k and $6k, which is a lot of money for something we may or may not love.

Maybe this sounds ridiculous but I have a wonderful convertible couch from Bob’s Discount Furniture. And I wanted a narrow recliner, which I purchased from Raymour & Flanigan. As I’ve mentioned before, my mattresses are from IKEA and extremely comfy. As I bought each one, I said to myself, if it wears badly, I’ll just get a new one. But so far, so good for all.

My S bought a futon bed that HE liked when he was in HS. More recently (about 20 years later), D told him that the bed was getting difficult to convert from bed to sofa, so we donated the futon to D’s friend (who just bought a house) and he bought a new futon. The new futon is quite comfortable and I have slept on it, and S sleeps on it and guests sleep on it (unless they prefer to sleep on D’s single bed in her bedroom). Both kids have been out of our home since about 2008, except for varying visits that can last days, weeks and even months during COVID.

Run, Forrest, run!

This was the brand we had. It was comfortable per our guests. However (and things may have changed), the design of those sleeper sofas requires a special kind of fitted sheet that is very narrow on one end and very wide on the other since the sofa basically folds out like an accordion. You cannot, “lift,” the mattress. At least you couldn’t on ours which was purchased in 2017. It was an absolute b*&ch to make up. It frustrated me to no end to try and get sheets on it. Sheets could not be folded up inside the sofa either.

Now, the design may have changed, but I would research before investing.
