What does HYP stat mean?

Simple question. I see this in posts and I want to know what this means.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton. Sometimes HYPSM is also mentioned. The S is for Stanford and M is for MIT. The stats typically needed for unhooked applicants for these schools are outerworldly! Lol

Oh, that makes sense. So does LAC stand for Lower application colleges?

Haha! Sorry to chuckle. No, LAC means Liberal Arts College. URM means under represented minority, low SES, low socio-economic status. FA, financial aid. AO, admissions officer. CC, either this site, or community college.

Probably lots of others, too.

@Lindagaf You can chuckle, my oldest is at West Point and I still don’t get all the Army acronyms he says in his emails and conversation.

You know West Point is a LAC, right? Funny!

I did not know West Point was an LAC. I just know they are known for engineering and a way different kind of college experience. Our youngest son did apply to both LAC and HPM, now that I know the lingo.

Lol. The College Comfidential (CC) lingo can sometime be indiscernible to the new CCer. LAC means liberal arts college and some top LACs --such as Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, have a typical type applicant “stat” (in my opinion, top 95% or above on SAT or ACT and top 10%gpa with all honors and AP courses) that are equal to HYPSM for unhooked (i.e., not an Unrepresented minority (URM), not a recruited athlete, not a legacy or development (large donor) applicant).
