We went to a music walk that was rescheduled from the hurricane on Saturday, and on Sunday we went with friends to a storytelling presentation and then to dinner.
Love this thread idea…
Saturday we we met friends out for a delicious Ethiopian buffet lunch. We had been talking about trying the restaurant for a while, so happy we finally did. It was delicious. Afterwards, we took a long walk on the boardwalk at golden hour and were treated to a show by a pod of whales feeding very close to shore.
Yesterday, was another unseasonably warm day, so H and I took at 25 mile bike ride and I hit a PR as far as average speed for that long of a ride. @JustaMom chamois shorts will help immensely. I find anything under 2 hours in the saddle is fine. Beyond that, I start to get sore, regardless of what I’m wearing. It’s good incentive to keep my pace up, LOL.
Didn’t see this was for the whole week (thought just the weekend). Have been helping a friend who had a humongous tree fall on her yard/part of her house. One evening we sat by lantern light and had home baked zucchini bread from her freezer and wine I brought over.
Our big thing this past weekend was trying all three of the new Whoppers. Verdict: the original Whopper w/cheese is the best.
This was a particularly excellent week. Went to NYC twice to see two very different Off-Broadway shows and babysat my infant grandson when his parents went out for the first time since his birth.
Dh won tix to the symphony from a radio station, so we did that Saturday night. Since the tix were free, we treated ourselves to a very nice dinner beforehand. Went on a hike Sunday afternoon.
I traveled to NYC to go with my younger D to shop for wedding dresses. We had a great time–had appointments at two shops.
@Bromfield2 - did she find the dress?
There are two contenders!!
This past Wednesday I bought twinkling lights for the back deck, and strung them up a couple days later. They make me very happy! Saturday we went to a chili cookoff in a very mellow part of our city–not something we would ever have done before becoming empty nesters.
I voted for the chili with chicken in it. Then tonight (Monday), we went to an awards cereomony at my husband’s university where the food was unexpectedly horrible, so on the way home we bought a whole bag of corn chips and two excellent kinds of salsa. That was a tasty second dinner!
And a fat seat with a gel cover. The only way I could tolerate riding as an adult even when I was skinny.
We’re in Sacramento looking for housing for our daughter who got offered her first job as a college graduate there. House hunting is alright, In-N-Out sucks, but the kingfisher we saw on the lamppost in our hotel parking lot was cool.
I attended a meeting of the local quilting guild and met several really lovely & friendly individuals. I enjoyed the lesson/social hour so much I decided to join the guild.
The meeting was held in a town about 12 miles away that I’ve never been to before and so after the meeting did some shopping. (There’s Trader Joes right across the street from the quilt shop that hosted the meeting! TJ’s even had decent parking since it’s in a shopping center with multiple other stores, including a DSW.)
Thursday was the last day for the county-sponsored farmers’ market until next April so I went–bought lots of apples, pears, Brussel sprouts, winter squash, and cherry tomatoes.
Last Wednesday was the annual Book Fair at the twin’s school. So, D1, I and GS all went and had a wonderful time choosing books to buy. I bought Grumpy Monkey Play All Day.
GS picked out a Pete the Cat book, Twin A got a science book about states of matter and Twin B picked out 2 books–one about a night owl who is pestered by an early bird and the other about a little girls who hoards books until she learns what a library is.
Nothing too exciting last week, but this week we have the movie Red One, the musical (not the movie) Wicked, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and tomorrow a root canal. I’m actually looking forward to the root canal and being out of pain. Busy week!
In the past six days, I’ve had many more social encounters than in my average week, and I really enjoyed them all. I rented a car for 24 hous and a friend and I made it to Walmart, Costco and Trader Joe’s. She got a bunch of stuff for Thanksgiving, where I’ll be a guest at her apartment. Two different friends came over to my place for wonderful visits. And I had two fabulous brunches with different friends. Plus I went to a Spanish-language meet-up at a bar where I (by no means a native speaker but I sound good) was the closest to expert, and where I’ve befriended the bartender. A very lively discussion with four new friends.
I was focused on last weekend, but I forgot that we went to the art museum last week. We saw a really great installation by a graduate of the school where I used to work. It was wonderful!
We had a different new couple over for dinner tonight and, again, had some great conversation, and they brought strawberry crepes for dessert.
We go back to AZ the week after T-day. I must say I’m not very excited about it. I always miss the cabin, and now we have a good group of friends here who I will miss.
We attended a wedding inBerkeley. It was fun to be in a lively city. We went out to dinner on Friday with family at a small restaurant near our hotel. Saturday morning we went to a local breakfast spot recommended here on CC. Saturday evening was the wedding. Sunday we picked up bagels on our way out of town before we drove home. It was great to reconnect with family.
Earlier in the week we went and heard the author Anne Lamott speak. She is both funny and insightful and it left me feeling good.
Last W-Sa I stayed with 6 m/o grandson while his parents were both out of town for work. Boy is he enjoying the solid foods! And he had a lot to say to the dog!
On Friday I will fly cross country to visit with 6 y/o grandson and 9 m/o granddaughter.
I love the concentrated time with them.
This princess tried 3 peas, and so far this one seems great. I rode 13 1/2 miles yesterday with zero issue! I joined a FB page for e-bike riders over 50, and got a ton of seat (and other) recommendations - one was this one! I’m so happy. I love riding, it’s so freeing.
I called the bike tour company to ask if I could bring my own seat to put on their bike, absolutely can! She said they have people bring their own things all the time.
